Museumsbahn
For lovers of historic steam railways,
the Romantic Town of Steyr has some-
thing very special to offer: Austria’s
oldest 760mm narrow track railway.
The 17 km long track connects the
Romantic Town of Steyr with the
towns of Grünburg and Stein-
bach/Steyr. The train passes through
beautiful woods and meadows along
the Steyr river, one of Austria’s clear-
est rivers. The locomotives and carri-
ages have been lovingly restored with
utmost care to every detail, so that
one can hardly believe that our histo-
rical train has already been in service
for more than a 100 years.

“Don Giovanni“
Opera in German
Don Giovanni For this in-house production, the Schlossgraben of the Lamberg Castle
- Austria's most beautiful open-air ambience - has been fitted with new
seating stands for the audience and a special sound system. The opera
focuses on the fascinating but unscrupulous seducer of women Don
Giovanni from Seville whom no woman irrespective of her social class
can resist and who lives an irresponsible life without regard to moral
principles. Since he shows no regret and does not answer the call for
repentance, he is devoured by the flames of hell in punishment. Festival
director Ebner succeeded in signing on Susanne Sommer (director),
Niels Muus (musical director) and a number of favourite singers from
the Volksoper and Staatsoper for this musical drama.

Pam Gems
“Edith Piaf - Der Spatz von Paris“
Musical in German
She lived a fast paced life, the life of a tough and man-eating vamp.
World-famous and worshipped by millions, she has decisively
influenced the French Chanson which will always be inextricably
linked with her name.
In this musical, Edith Piaf holds the centre stage - accompanied
through her life by a variety of different men: her manager, lover,
husband, her discoverer, all played by one actor. Her men turn the
Parisian brat into a world star. An exciting theatre play in the Steyr
Alte Theater with Piaf's well-known chansons, including of course
“Non, je ne regrette rien“ - I regret nothing!

In the supermarket, regional fruits such as the Granny Smith apple
and citrus fruits from abroad led by the pineapple make life difficult
for each other.
The little fruits Kronprinz and Clementine become friends (like
Romeo and Juliet) and make an important discovery: that they do
have something in common - namely vitamins. The dispute between
the various fruits is settled and in the end they all become one big
family in a fruit salad.

C Pilgrimage church Christkindl

For more than 300 years, the faithful

have gone on pilgrimages to the
church of Christkindl. Towards the
end of the 17th century Ferdinand
Sertl, the tower watchman and band-
master who suffered from epilepsy,
lived in Steyr. He placed a small wax
figure of the Christ child into the
hollow of a fir tree in the woods of
Steyr and was cured. The construc-
tion of the present church was begun
by Giovanni Battista Carlone in 1702.
It was finished by Jakob Prandtauer
between 1708 and 1725. Today the
small wax figure is housed in a little
reliquary on the high altar above the
globe-shaped tabernacle.

The mechanical nativity scene by Karl Klauda (1855-

1939) awakens almost 300 figurines to life using bicycle chains,
shafts and gear wheels that make them move through a biblical
landscape to the accompaniment of Bohemian cylinder organ
music.

The Pöttmesser nativity sence with a floor space of

58 m2 and 778 up to 30 cm high figurines is one of the world’s
largest nativity scenes. The oriental figurines were made by
Ferdinand Pöttmesser (1895-1977).

S Steyr Stadtmuseum

Steyr Stadtmuseum
in the Innerberger Stadl
The Innerberger Stadl was built in
1611 and was used by the Innerberg
main guild for the storage of grain
and food. Today the double-gabled
renaissance building with rich
sgraffito decorating its facade
houses the Steyr Stadtmuseum.
Folkloristic collections, scythe
hammer, nail forge, the Petermandl
knife collection, the Steinparz bird
collection and arms produced by the
founder of the Steyr Works, Josef
Werndl, recall the heyday of the
former iron city of Steyr.

Scythe hammer The technological construction of the

scythe hammer, exhibited in the Steyr Stadtmuseum since
1957, goes back to the time of Maria Theresia, as various
studies and investigations have shown. Only original pieces
were used, almost all of which are more than one hundred
years old and have been out of use for a long time.

The Lamberg nativity figurines from the Count

Lamberg collection were created between the baroque and
Biedermeier periods. More than 200 of these figurines have
been decoratively arranged on a large mountain.

The Bethlehem nativity scene was given to the

town of Steyr upon the conclusion of its town partnership
with Bethlehem in 2001. The stable alone weighs approxima-
tely 170 kg, the figurines between 5-10 kg.

famous art treasures such as Tassilo's chalice, its observatory and
natural history museum. The monastery's winery will delight wine
lovers with its excellent wines.

In Schloss Kremsegg more than 1,000 rare historical wind instruments

from all over the world as well as a unique piano collection are on

National Park Hintergebirge bus for hikers

Hiking and biking is a major pastime in the Kalkalpen National Park. The
„National Park bus for hikers“ makes it easier to reach the alpine pastures,
cabins and various attractions.

The Kalkalpen National Park, together with the National Park Region Tourist
Board, offers an attractive shuttle service for hikers and bikers. Every Sunday
from 1 August until 10 October 2010 a bus for hikers equipped with a bike
trailer goes from Steyr to the Reichraminger Hintergebirge and up to the
Hengstpass. The ride through the Reichraminger Hintergebirge alone promises
to be a special experience. Starting out from the bus stops you can choose
among numerous family-friendly hiking tours. Together with the bus ticket
you'll receive a 50% discount on the admission fee for the exhibition
