Unilever is one of the worlds largest manufacturers of consumer goods. Headquartered in both London and
Rotterdam, the company produces 400 brands across 14 food, home and personal care categories. Twelve of these
brandsincluding such recognized names as Knorr, Hellmans, Lipton and Dovegenerate revenues of more than
1 billion (US$1.4 billion) each year. With 174,000 employees in 100 countries, Unilever reported worldwide sales
of more than 40 billion (US$57 billion) in 2008.
The Cordillera BPC Project focuses on the implementation of Financial Forecasting and Supply Chain Planning
using SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC) on the NetWeaver platform. The Go-Live for release 1 was
in Oct, 2011 for North America with a subsequent release 2 in July, 2012 for Mexico and release 3 in April, 2013 for
Latin America. SAP ECC 6.0 is the OLTP system and is the source of actuals data, existing enterprise BW (called
EBW) is leveraged as the Intermediate data layer and EBW feeds into the planning BW (called PBW) where BPC
NW architecture resides. Unilever Cordillera BPC Project is one of the largest and complex BPC project till date in
terms of data volumes/user base.
The forecast process at Unilever provides the ability to forecast all financial & management items in line with
Unilever Regional and Business Group requirements, i.e., P&L, Indirects etc. and also in the requested granularity
(by Product, by account/measure, etc.). The Planning and Forecasting process is divided into two distinct main
processes, as follows:

Cost of Sales (COS) Forecasting: This process prepares cost forecasts for longer term (24 months) financial
planning and performs the calculation to build the Transfer Price between the UASCC (ULASCC) and MSOs
which is a key input to the Financial Planning process.
o

Key inputs to this process are the projection of finished goods stock quantities from supply chain
planning, forecasted stock cost valuation rates from supply chain finance and prior period actual
amounts. The output from this process is a transfer price list, in the receiving MSO local currency, for
the upcoming 8 quarters, with information both at SKU and BFPP level. The UASCC plans in local
currency (USD) and have the ability to convert to other currencies (Euro) as needed.

Financial Forecasting (FF): This is a process whereby knowledge about the current state of the business and its
markets and assumptions about the future are translated into estimates of future financial outcomes for the
purpose of Financial Forecasting. It provides integrated P&L forecasts to support decision supporting decision
making. Decision making is triggered by the existence of a gap between estimated future outcome and targeted
future outcome.
o

Unilever Financial Forecast - MSO P&L: The forecasted P&L will leverage the latest sales/volume
estimates from the Sales & Operations Planning Process(S&OP) along with the current Transfer
Pricing and cost forecasts from the UASCC to develop the latest business projection. Forecasts for the
MSO will be planned in local currency with the ability to convert to other currencies as needed.

BI Architect & Project Manager for Chart of Accounts Conversion Project
The SAP R/3 Chart of Accounts (COA) conversion project converts the North America account structure to
the global standard. The BI systems which receive information from R/3 systems need to change in sync with
the transaction systems. The BI systems which store and report on a General Ledger Account, Secondary Cost
Element, or the Chart of Accounts are the subject of this project. Chart was changed from WHCA to WECO
and Accounts were changed from old 6 digits to new 10 digit accounts.
Produced the design/ approach that outperformed SAP Americas solution for the project there by
saving saved $600,000.00 for Whirlpool which was SAP Americas cost of implementation of the
project. I managed the complete project from chart sign off to the closing of the project without a single
defect. Recognized by client and Fujitsu for my work for this project.
Initially SAP America proposed a solution for this project using their conversion tool costing more than
$600,000 plus SAP team expenses. I proposed 4 alternative solutions for the same project against SAP
Americas solution, the Chart of Accounts Steering Committee of Whirlpool which consists of high-level
Finance and GIS leaders picked up my approach for BI Chart of Accounts Conversion project thereby saving
$600,000 and assigned me as Project Manager on this project. BI Charts of Account Conversion project was
completed before the delivery timelines and without any single defect or issue. SAP on the other hand
performed the conversion on SAP R/3 system.
