Japan developed the Type 1 after Soviet-Japanese border
fighting in 1939 showed that their 37mm guns were
inadequate at dealing with modern Soviet tanks.

Japanese riflemen carried the bolt-action .25 caliber
Arisaka rifle. It was highly accurate in the hands of a
skilled shooter, but awkward because of its great length.

The 14th Infantry Division of the Imperial Japanese Army
defended the island of Peleliu in the Palaus. The US
invasion of Peleliu in September 1944 had the highest
casualty rate of any amphibious assault of the war.

American soldiers often referred to this 50mm grenade
discharger as a “knee mortar” because it looked like it was
supposed to sit on the firer’s knee. The Japanese knew
better—that was a surefire recipe for a broken leg.

The Type 92, a heavy 7.7mm gun, weighed over a
hundred pounds.

Fast but lightly armored, the Type 95 saw action in
virtually every campaign in Asia and the Pacific.

Forest Camouflage — While
this unit is in a forest hex, it
automatically succeeds at cover
rolls against long-range attacks.
