COURSE DIRECTOR

At the heart of any successful international oil


trade is an effective trading operations and a
safe and reliable shipping that will support this
activity. It is therefore crucial for everyone in the
oil and petroleum trade business to gain a better
understanding of trading and shipping terms
that are relevant to exporting and importing oil
and related cargos, as well as the key people/
organizations and tasks that will ensure successful
trade and quality tanker chartering.
This course is designed to give a specialist oil
trading and shipping operations knowledge
to those involved in trading, chartering, and
shipbroking of oil and tanker vessels. This course
will cover key topics and issues in oil trading and
tanker shipping and will provide practical insights
and possible remedies to these issues. It will
ensure an understanding of the strategies to be
followed by operators for trading and shipping
oil and related cargos, and the issues involved
with claims, including demurrage.

DAVID ATKINS

DAVID ATKINS has been in the oil and shipping industry


for more than 30 years, during which time he has held
positions in procurement, oil trading and tanker operations,
supply logistics, refinery throughput planning, gas field
production and marketing, shipbroking, vessel agency
and until 2008 in demurrage and claims management.
He has participated in a number of industry forums and
served on North Sea oil and pipeline management and
pricing committees.

David started his career with BP holding positions in
procurement, trading and supply logistics and operations
and refinery throughput planning. After 11 years with
BP, David left to take up a position with a Middle East
Shipping Agency based in Bahrain, where he jointly
headed up the tanker agency team responsible for Bahrain
and neighbouring Saudi Arabia. Returning to the UK he
subsequently held positions in oil trading, shipbroking
and north sea oil exploration and production.

Since 2008 David has worked as a consultant and advises
companies on demurrage and insurance claims and on the
implementation of improved back-office claims procedures.

involved in have included redrafting General Terms and
Conditions for a Terminal and Pipeline company, assisting
Company Administrators in the recovery of outstanding
debts of a Ship Management company and the drafting of
Barge Terms and Conditions for an International Oil Major.

David is a guest lecturer for the Institute of Chartered
Shipbrokers and The National Maritime College of Ireland in
association with GAC. He presents laytime and demurrage
workshops and other training courses for both UK and
International clients. David is a member of the Energy
Institute.

re-scheduled or cancelled.
Invida Events Pte Ltd (IEPL) shall not be responsible for any damages or liabilities
incurred by the registrants if the IEPL event is cancelled or if the venue and/or
speakers are changed for reasons beyond its control, such as but not limited to
fortuitous events, act of war, etc.However, IEPL will aim but with no guarantee,

before the start of the event, to receive a refund less 10% processing fee per
registration. Cancellation notification received less than 10 business days before
the event will not be refunded.
Invida Events Pte Ltd (IEPL) has the right to cancel or revise the schedule,
contents, venue and/or speakers of the event, for reasons beyond IEPLs control;
and as a result of the cancellation and/or changes in the event details, IEPL will
not be responsible for the accommodation, airfare, and other costs incurred by
registrants.
Also, in case IEPL finds it necessary to cancel the event due to reasons beyond
its control, it reserves the right to apply this registration to another event or issue
a credit voucher of the same amount valid within a period of one year, which
can be used by the registrant or his/her chosen representative to attend another
event organized by IEPL.
