Whatisintheexamination?
TheEnglishexaminationisonehourandfifteenminuteslong.
Itisintwosections,ReadingandWriting.Thetwosectionscarryequalmarks.
IntheReadingsection,girlsarerequiredtoreadashortpassage,normallyaboutapage
long,andanswershortquestionsaboutthepassageinordertodemonstratehowwell
theyhaveunderstoodthepassage.
IntheWritingsection,girlsaresetawritingtaskwhichmaybebasedinsome
wayonthepassageintheReadingsection.Thistaskwillnormallybeofacreative
nature.

Wearelookingforevidencethatagirl:
Canreadwithdiscernmentandunderstanding,withafirmgraspofbothimplicit

Whileitissensibleforgirlstobefamiliarwiththeformatoftheexamination,wewould
emphasisestronglythatinourexperiencearepetitivedrillingofexaminationtasksand/
ortheteachingofaformulaicapproachtowritingareneitherdesirablenoreffective
formsofpreparation,eitherfortheexaminationorforourschools.

Themathematicsexaminationisonehourandfifteenminuteslong.
Thecontentofthepapersinallareaswillbebasedontheassumptionthatcandidates
areworkingtowardsLevel5oftheMathematicsNationalCurriculum.
Therewillbeavarietyofquestions,testingbasicnumericalskills,problemsolvingand
logicalthinking.
Girlsmayalsoberequiredtodemonstratemoredevelopedpowersofreasoningandthe
abilitytosolvesimpleproblemswithanewlyintroducedconcept.
Thequestionswillnotnecessarilybecomehardertowardstheendofthepaper.
Girlsshouldbeencouragednottospendtoolongonanyquestionbutshouldmoveon
tolaterquestionsandreturntoearlieronesiftheyhavetime.
Candidatesonlyneedapencilandarubberfortheexamination.
Calculatorsarenotallowedintheexamination,norarerulers.
