IMPORTANCE

1) The intention of involving in this type

of project are:
* One of us has a sister who was once
before made this project which was not
fully completed. So, we have decided to
continue the project by making it more
enticing.
2) To determine the effect of flower color
on soil acidity. In most species the
flowers are white, but in some species
(notably H. Macrophylla) can be blue,

red, pink, light purple or dark purple. In

these species the color is affected by soil
pH.
* For H. Macrophylla and H. Serrata
cultivars, the flower color can be
determined by the relative acidity of the
soil: An acidic soil (pH below 6) will
usually produce flower color closer to
blue, whereas an alkaline soil (pH above
6) will produce flowers more to pink.
This is caused by a color change of the
flower pigments in the presence of
aluminium ions which can be taken up
into hyper accumulating plants.

3) GRADUATE STUDY
My sister, Siti Sofiah was graduated from
Mara College Banting and one of her final
project was the research on Hydrangea plant.
She has found that this species of flowering
plants were affected by soil acidity. This plant
will turn from white to blue color if it is put in
an acidic soil and will change to pink when it is
plant on an alkaline soil. But she cannot
completely finish this project since the
Hydrangea flowers are produced from early
spring to late autumn. By considering this
factor, my group and I would kindly continue
making research on the plant till we get the best
result.

Mohd Farudz,

4) IMPORTANCE
*Hydrangeas are popular ornamental
plants, grown for their large flower
heads, with Hydrangea Macrophylla
being by far most widely grown with
over 600 named cultivars many
selected to have only large sterile
flowers in the flower heads.
*Hydrangeas are moderately toxic if
eaten, with all parts of the plant
containing cyanogenic glycosides.
Hydrangea Paniculata is reportedly
sometimes smoked as an intoxicant,
despite the danger of illness and/or
death due to the cyanide.

* This type of agriculture project helps

us in boosting our self-consciousness
towards environment and enhances our
thinking cap of the greatness of god
creation.
