learning disability and those
organisations who represent
people with a learning disability

It is about the checks

(inspections) that CQC will make

The Care Quality Commission

makes sure health and social
care services give people safe,
kind and good care.

We also want to help services to

get better.

We check services in England to

make sure they meet the rules
about how good a care service
must be. We make these checks
on our inspections.

We will be doing inspections

between January and March
2015 for different sorts of care
services.

We will be checking hospitals.

We will be checking mental

health services.

We will be checking ambulance

services.

We will be checking community

health services.

We will be checking private

healthcare services.

At the end of this letter is a list of

where we will be doing these
checks.

We will also be checking local

doctors (GPs).

We will be checking adult social

care services such as care
homes, home care and hospices.

We will also be checking

dentists.

We do not give doctors (GPs),

dentists, care homes, home care
services and hospices warnings
about our checks, so we cannot
tell you when they will be. The
checks happen all through the
year.

We do want to hear about your

experience of these services
though and you can send us
information about your local
services to
enquiries@cqc.org.uk or by
calling 03000 61 61 61.

You can send us information

about hospitals, ambulance
services and mental health
services by choosing the right
email address in the attached
list.
These are the services where we
will let the public know when we
are checking services in their
area.

If you have information that is

about more than one service,
choose the email address you
think is best and the information
will be sent to the right team.

CQC is inspecting services in

different ways now and are
asking five questions of each
service.

1. Do people feel safe when

being cared for?

2. Does the care make people

feel better?

3. Are staff caring and kind?

4. Do staff listen to people?

5. Is the service managed well?

And we are now giving these

services, apart from dentists, a
new rating.

They will be rated (score) as

outstanding, which means it is
really good.

Or a service will be given a rating

of good.

Or a service will be given a rating

of requires improvement, which
means it needs to get better.

Or a service will be given a rating

of inadequate, which means it is
poor.

If you have any views, good or

bad, about the quality of care
provided by the organisations in
the list at the end of this letter,
please let us know.

This information will be used by

the inspection teams to help plan
their inspection and know what
to look for.

None of the information we use

will include personal information
like your name.

inspections will not show who
said it.
