DROPS AND WITHDRAWLS POLICY

According to the Federal Title IV regulations, federal financial aid is earned
based upon the length of time a student is enrolled. When a student withdraws from their classes before 60 percent of the semester/term has been
completed, a portion of any federal loans or grants will be refunded to the
federal aid program. This applies to students who withdraw, officially or unofficially, from all of their classes. (Refer to AcadUp No. 102) The Federal Title IV refund regulations are separate and distinct from Saint Leo University
tuition refund policies.
It is crucial that our records are accurate and we are in compliance with all
federal financial aid regulations. This requires that a students record is an
actual reflection of what occurred and when. Therefore, we will not alter a
students record that does not reflect historical events. No retro-drops and
withdrawals will be made, with the exception that the university has made an
error that does not reflect actual events and dates.
Students are responsible for knowing the rules and regulations pertaining to
dropping or withdrawing from classes. The university recognizes that serious
uncontrollable events arise and in exceptional cases is prepared to assist
students. Requests are handled on a case-by-case basis upholding fairness
and equity for all students. Failure to manage academic priorities will not be
accepted as reasons for granting exceptions. Contact your division/
department for procedures to request assistance with extenuating circumstances.
