2.1. Introduction
TheJapanesebasedminingcompanycalledSukitomiMetalMining(SMM),worriedabout
thesafetyoftheiremployees,wantstoimplementanextensionoftheirexistingsoftware
systemtoavoidsomesituationsinmininglocationsinChile,Peru,Australia,andSouth
Africa.

2.2. List of features


ThehumanresourcesdepartmentofSMMmadealistofthesituationsthatwanttobe
solvedwiththefinalsoftwareproduct:
Managementofemployeesandtheirpersonalinformation.Also,itisdesirableto
managethedifferentlevelsofaccessinsidethemineinadditionwitha
hardwaresoftwaresolutionwithfingerprintrecognition.
Trainingoftheoperativestaffinindustrialsecuritypolicies.Besidesthetraining,the
systemshouldletthehumanresourcesstaffevaluatestheperformanceofthetrainees
andbasedontheirresult,giveaccesstodifferentlevelsofsecurity.
Riskareamanagement,monitoringandcontrollingriskfactorstohandlethetypical
risksofthisindustrysuchunfavorablegeotechnicalconditions(presenceofpotential
instability),rockyareaswithspills,sectorsaffectedbyblastingmaterial(rockexplosion
tomakefractures)andanyotheritemsthatmayaffectthesafetyofminingoperations.
Ariskareahasauniqueid,amnemotechnicname,alistoffactorsofriskindicating
whichofthemaremonitored,leveloftrainingtoworkthereandamapwith
geolocalizedreferencesofthearealimits.Itwouldtakeinformationfromtheregistered
accidentsandfromthetrainingresult.
Registerofworkeraccidentsthroughasimpleandgraphicalway,takingnotesofthe
relevantinformationaboutaccidentsandpeople,maybespecifyingtheriskareawhere
theaccidenthappened.Ideallyitshouldlettheusersetgeoreferencedlandmarks
graphically,savingauniqueaccidentidentifier,theriskareawheretheaccident
happened,dayandtime,numberofstaffinvolvedandpersonalimpact(died,serious
wounds,lightwounds,lightwoundsandneedhospital,lightwoundsanddoesntneed
hospital,withoutwounds).
Dependingonthetechnologicalavailabilityofeachcountry,weneedtoconnectthe
systemwithlocalemergencyserviceswhenanalarmisactivated.Thealarmcanbe

launchedmanuallybyauserofthemonitoringsystemorautomaticallyactivatedby
differentalertmechanismsbasedonmonitoringsensors.

differentsetofvariablesandrelatingthemwithautomaticalarms.

twogroupswillactasthestakeholdergroupandwillbecomposedbypeople

preparedtoanswerquestionsfromtheothergroups.
