I. Maintenance of electrical systems

Is mobile electrical equipment subject to regular inspections according to national health and
safety regulations, e.g. VDE0702, PAT?

Interval:

Is fixed electrical equipment of machines inspected at regular intervals according to

recommendations of the manufacturer?

Interval:

Are regular inspections of electrical installations carried out according to EN 50110-1 Operation
of Electrical Installations?

Interval:

Are additional visual inspections carried out on electrical systems in general on a regular basis
(damaged lines and cables, dirty control cabinets, replacement of flickering lamps)?

Interval:

Is the electrical installation inspected by an approved expert certified by a recognised national

institute?

Interval:

Are supplementary thermographic inspections on electrical equipment & installations carried out?
Is the inspector a thermographic inspection expert certified by a recognised national institute?
Are all defects detected in the above inspections corrected immediately?
Have overvoltage/lightning protection measures been taken for electrical facilities that are
essential for business operations?
Are the final circuits protected by Residual Current Devices (RCD`s) or monitored by Residual
Current Monitoring (RCM)?
Are the production and storage areas de-energized at the end of the working time?

If so, which areas:

II. Maintenance of fire protection systems and plant/machinery representing a

particular fire and explosion hazard
Is the adequate condition of fire stoppings in walls inspected at regular intervals (also in false
floors and suspended ceilings)? (This applies in particular following reconstruction and installation work)
Is the adequate function of fire stoppings (shutters, doors, etc.) including their door-closing
mechanisms checked by the operating company once a month?
Are fire shutters closed at the end of the working time?
Are the deficiencies of fire protection equipment detected in acceptance tests, maintenance and
revision work (e.g. fire alarm, sprinkler or spray water systems) corrected as quickly as possible
by agreement with the fire safety officer?
Is the Insurer informed about fire alarm and protection systems being shut down if this is
required at short notice in exceptional cases? Note: Ask your insurer for impairment notification
forms.
Are fire protection compensation measures agreed with the Insurer in the above case?
Is it ensured that fire-fighting equipment (fire extinguishers, hose reels, outdoor fire water
access points) is in adequate condition at any time, freely accessible and clearly marked by an
additional signage if required?
Is the in-plant fire water supply network checked by annual water flow tests?
Is it ensured that the building temperature does not drop below +5 C or that other measures
provide sufficient protection against freezing in areas where fire protection systems with water
within are installed?
Are machines & production equipment representing a particular fire and explosion risk (e.g.
machine tools, hydraulic systems, painting systems, thermal oil systems, filter systems etc.)
maintained & tested as specified by the manufacturer or according to local / national laws and
regulations?

Particularly safety-relevant machinery/

equipment include:

III. Other safety measures

Are plant / technical rooms (electrical rooms, heating, cooling and ventilation system rooms, IT
rooms etc.) and also roof-areas and basement rooms kept free of unnecessary fire loads as far
as possible?
Are there any permit procedures for reconstruction / repair work in areas representing a
particular fire and explosion hazard (this also applies to pipes and machines with natural gas)?

If so, who grants the permit? Name:

Are hot works except for work rooms specifically intended for that purpose carried out only
with the written permit of the business management or of a person in charge of this task? Note:
See the HDI-Gerling hot works permit form.

The person responsible for granting hot

works permits is:

When machinery and systems that are essential for production fail, e.g. a transformer, is it
still possible to resume production operations within a short time? If so, which areas require
redundant / standby equipment and/or emergency plans and for which areas are these
emergency plans available?
Are sufficient numbers of spare parts available for bottleneck systems? For which machines /
parts do they apply?
Are there regular damage checks of all fences, gates and the outer building shell (windows/
doors) and is any detected damage repaired without delay?
Are all water-carrying systems and pipes (mains, heating, process and fire water) frost-protected
if no secure and monitored building/area heating can be guaranteed?
Is there a permanent stand-by emergency crew available for storm events such as flooding,
storms, heavy rain, hailstorms or heavy snowfall? Note: Maximum snow loads must be
followed, especially on flat roofs!
Is there regular coordination with the in-house fire safety officer regarding the safety measures
to be taken?
Are necessary safety measures resulting from hazard analysis (see statutory health and safety
regulations) or based on Insurers or other experts recommendations implemented?
Is the use of non-combustible materials/components as far as possible considered for new - and
reconstruction projects? Is the insurer involved in these projects?
Is the HDI-Gerling construction site check list taken into consideration during new construction or
reconstruction projects?
Is the HDI-Gerling Organizational fire protection General check list applied as a supplement
to the above measures?
If explosion hazards exist within the production process, is the HDI-Gerling Organizational
explosion protection check list used?
