Notes:
* Male and female Soldiers who fall below the minimum weights shown in table 3–1 will be referred for immediate medical evaluation.
1 The height will be measured in stocking feet (without shoes), standing on a flat surface with the chin parallel to the floor. The body should be straight but
not rigid, similar to the position of attention. The measurement will be rounded to the nearest inch with the following guidelines:
a If the height fraction is less than 1/2 inch, round down to the nearest whole number in inches.
b If the height fraction is 1/2 inch or greater, round up to the next highest whole number in inches.
2 The weight should be measured and recorded to the nearest pound within the following guidelines.
a If the weight fraction is less than 1/2 pound, round down to the nearest pound.
b If the weight fraction is 1/2 pound or greater, round up to the next highest pound.
3 All measurements will be in a standard PT uniform (gym shorts and T-shirt, without shoes).
4 If the circumstances preclude weighing soldiers during the APFT, they will be weighed within 30 days of the APFT.
5 Add 6 pounds per inch for males over 80 inches and 5 pounds for females for each inch over 80 inches.

Automated Army Body Fat Worksheets
Ver 6.0 (25 May 2009)
First Released 6 Aug 01

Overview -
These Automated Army Body Fat Worksheets are the easiest, most complete solution to the hassle of looking up values from AR 600-9 when determining Body Fat
measurements for soldiers. Formflow is pretty, but it doesn't look up the values for you. With Formflow, you still need the manual for the tables, so I've
included the tables in this worksheet.

Requirements -
Body Fat Worksheet (this spreadsheet)
MS Excel (tested in 97, 2000 and XP)

How to Run -
Simply click on the filename on a computer running a version of Microsoft's Excel program. Most Army computers with Windows OS have MS Office, which
includes Excel. For home, you can purchase a Military Appreciation Edition of MS Office Standard for around $60 at the PX and you can get an Enterprise Edition of
MS Office through the Army's home use program for around $20 (links found on AKO).

Choose the Male (DA 5500) or Female (DA 5501) worksheets with the tabs at the bottom of the screen. You can also view the Screening Table Weight chart at
the left-most tab.

Tab through the documents. Comments and hints will popup in certain areas of the form to help you through.

Cost -
Free. If you really like the worksheet and would like to donate cash, you have a couple options. Find 'Breast Cancer Foundation, The Susan G. Komen' in
this year's CFC book and donate something to it. It would mean a lot to me. Please come to http://www.armybytes.com, sign the guestbook and let me know
what you think of the worksheet and where it's being used.

If you work for the Army Ideas of Excellence Program/BIC and like what I've done, please email me at webmaster@armybytes.com.

History -
Jan-July 2001 - I had an idea for this worksheet
July/August 2001 - Went to work on my idea. I can't remember how many hours I spent at the computer, but my wife forgot who I was for a while
V1.0 - 6 Aug 01 - Initial version
V2.0 - 14 Oct 01 - Fixed error in female allowable percentage - Thanks SFC Snowdeal
V3.0 - 19 Nov 01 - Used data validation to keep from entering incorrect measurements - Thanks COL Grimes
V3.1 - 10 Dec 01 - Added 16.00-20.75 inches to Female Neck Measurements Table per FACT SHEET by Mr. Palkoska (ATZB-PF/DSN 835-6330), dated 1 January 1994.
V3.2 - 29 Sep 02 - New version modified by SFC Rowley. Version adds automatic 'X' for whether the soldier is or is not in compliance with Army standards and
also fixed formatting for signature blocks. Thanks SFC Rowley
V3.3 - 2 Jun 03 - Corrected data validation in circumference measurements to allow .25 variation between previous and next, but not First AND Second for the
third measurement. This wouldn't have caused any incorrect body fat percentages, but would have caused measurements to be taken too many times, because it
was too strict, due to a misinterpretation of AR 600-9, Appendix B, paragraph B-2b. Clarification for this is found in AR 600-9, Appendix B, paragraph B-3a.
Thanks to 1SG George Joell for pointing this one out!
V3.4 - 26 Jan 04 - Added table/actual weight and body fat percentage in remarks block by request from SFC Woodards. Also, fixed spelling error in line 1 of
male worksheet (naval to navel). Can't believe noone pointed that out in 2 1/2 yrs!
V4.0 - 28 Jun 04 - Linked table weight to Screening Table Weight sheet so that you no longer have to enter that data. It automatically fills. Thanks,
Colin.
v5.0 - 1 Oct 06 - Compiled updated versions from CSM Michael W. Roberts and 1SG Barry L. Sell to create this version. They did most of the hard work and
deserve most of the credit. I just added some comments, added the data validation to force measurements within 1/2" of the previous, and added this readme to the
worksheet. I've found a couple websites offerring the worksheets for download, but not providing any credit for our hard work. I've also had one person claim they had
created this version when they clearly did not, as you can see in this history. Thanks CSM Roberts and 1SG Sell.
v5.1 - 2 Oct 06 - Corrected Screening Table Weight lookup in Female Body Fat Worksheet (DA 5501). This error did not affect body fat percentages, only what it showed in
the remarks block as the soldier's Table Weight. Thanks to SSG Mcclin for finding this error.
v5.2 - 3 Oct 06 - Corrected Table Lookup error to account for circumference values larger than 66.5. In cases where this error occurred, it returned #N/A prior to this
fix. Thanks to SFC Scott Woods for catching the error.
v6.0 - 25 May 09 - Corrected measurement rounding rules IAW ALARACT 237/2008, dated 301456Z SEP 08.

These worksheets are not individually password protected. If you modify it, please send me a copy and if I like it I'll put it online as a new version. Please distribute it freely
within your office, units, or among friends, but do not put online for downloading. I want armybytes.com to be the only download site so I can keep track of the number of
downloads. Keep this readme with it when you share it. Thank You.
