Year of Con
The Year of Connection...
This year we’re pulling out all the stops. It’s time to see what would happen if we take
seriously Jesus’ words, “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matt 4:19)
“Fishing for men” is another way to say “connecting people to Jesus Christ.”
If each of us this year would connect JUST ONE PERSON to Jesus, do you realize
how many people that would be? Almost 2000 people! That’s 1,823 more than we’ve
ever seen baptized at our church in a given year. Will you join me and go for it? Let’s start
praying and keeping our eyes open for that ONE that God wants each of us to introduce
to Jesus. Let’s do some fishing and see what happens!

“We are doing whatever it takes to connect people to Jesus Christ.”
Sarasota Baptist Church Mission Statement

The Bible is quite clear about what it takes to experience the miraculous.
We must PRAY. Prayer forces us to go deeper in our relationship with God
and listen to His agenda. Prayer positions us to hear from God and prepares
us for what He wants to do through us. Prayer enables us to see God at work.
Beginning January 17, we will kick off 21 consecutive days of Cottage
Prayer Meetings. Each evening for 21 days, a different home in our
community will host a Prayer Meeting. I want every one of you to participate in at least one of these Cottage
Prayer Meetings. We must…if we’re to see God do the miraculous!
Why is this necessary? It’s important that we devote time as a church to seek God and His Will for our
lives. It’s times like this when He prepares and empowers His church to do the miraculous. We’re asking
God to use us to connect more people to Jesus than we’ve ever done before. We’re asking God to provide
all the resources necessary to pay off our newly constructed Global Mission Training facilities at both

campuses. We’re asking God to begin the next great Spiritual Awakening in our nation.
In addition to the Prayer Meetings, we also plan to have a 24 hour prayer vigil at each campus on
February 5th and 6th immediately following our Forward Together By Faith Rally. Stay tuned for more
details. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to take your FAITH WALK to the next level.

“Until now you have asked for nothing in My name.
Ask and you shall receive, that your joy may be made full.” John 16:24

As you know, we finished the construction of our new facilities at both campuses 2 years ago with $12
million in debt. We are now paying off the loan within our ministry budget but it’s time to look at how to pay
off this debt early in order to free up ministry funds to reach even more people who need Christ.
Therefore, we are kicking off our Capital Stewardship Campaign entitled, “Forward Together By Faith”
on January 17th. I’m praying that we will see God do a fresh work in our lives as well as provide a financial
miracle that will enable us to pay off this debt much sooner than we anticipated.
God has already been at work preparing us for this miracle and in the last couple of months a number of
individuals have made sizable financial commitments toward this goal. I will announce the amount at our
church-wide rally on February 5th. You are going to be amazed! Not only that, I’m delighted to be able to
announce to you that my former pastor, Dr. Charles Stanley, will be speaking at our rally. I can’t wait for you
to meet him and hear the message that God gives him that night. You’d better mark the date now.

“Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure-pressed down, shaken together, and
running over-will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured
back to you.” Luke 6:38

I love being your Pastor,
Mike Landry

W hat if you only had one month to live?
What changes would you make in your life?
Coming in February, we will begin a new
sermon series based on Kerry and Chris
Shook's New York Times best-seller,
One Month to Live: Thirty Days to a No-
Regrets Life. With eye-opening insights and
soul-inspiring truths, One Month to Live
challenges us to embrace the life God has
entrusted to us and to live it out moment
by moment with wholehearted authenticity,
honesty and integrity.

In addition to Pastor’s sermon series, our One Month to Live
campaign will include a 6-week coordinated small group study offered in all
of our Community Groups for children, students and adults. If you have
not yet connected to a small group, this is a perfect opportunity. To find
a Community Group with people like you, stop by the Community Group
Kiosk or Information Desk, go to and look under
classes/small groups, or call 922-1449.
Because a life with no regrets is something every person desires,
One Month to Live presents a great opportunity for us to offer hope to
our community. We are looking for people willing to host in their homes
the same 6-week study that will be led in our Community Groups and
invite their friends, family, neighbors, or co-workers…people who don’t
attend Sarasota Baptist or are not already connected to a Community
Group. We will provide the DVD teaching and a Study Guide for
each participant. Hosts simply need a location with a DVD player and
a willingness to invite people and lead in discussing the questions in the
study guide. If you are interested in hosting a group, contact Lee Rich
at 922-1449 and plan to attend our One Month to Live training for
Community Group Teachers and Small Group Hosts on Sunday,
January 24 at 5:30 pm at either campus.
We will also have the One Month to Live daily devotional hardcover
book available for $15 (a discounted price) through our bookstore
beginning February 7.
