Sidikou, Brothers and sisters, you were first on the frontline here in 2007. We are
just proud of you. You are here because Africa called, because our sisters and
brothers of Somalia called. You are here in defense of freedom and liberty. You are
fighting so that hatred is not instilled in our children, so that that Africa returns the
values inherited from our forefathers irrespective of religion.

Adan Elmi Today I would like to thank the Ugandan government, the Ugandan
people, and Ugandan army on behalf of Somali National Army. Thank you very much
for helping us to drive out Al-Shabaab. Uganda was the first country to answer the
call from the Somali government and it was a courageous move. President Museveni
did a great job and started sending troops to Somalia. That was actually the move
that we will remember forever.

SCRIPT
MOGADISHU, Saturday 7th February, 2015 Uganda Peoples Defense Forces
(UPDF) contingent in Somalia on Saturday commemorated the 34th anniversary of
Tarehe Sita by offering medical services to Somali community at De Martino Hospital
in Mogadishu.
The day marks the first armed attack by the National Resistance Army that started
the guerrilla war which brought President Yoweri Museveni to power in January 1986.
The armed attack was on 6th February 1981.
The Ugandan contingent cleaned and painted the hospital premises, and the medical
team diagnosed and treated patients at the hospital's Out-Patient unit.
The Uganda contingent commander Brig. Sam Kavuma said, Whenever we are
celebrating this day we dedicate it to the people because of that support. So
wherever we are; whether we are in Uganda or outside Uganda, when we are
celebrating this day we dedicate it to the people the civilians what we call
wananchi in Kiswahili.
The Director of De Martino Hospital Dr. Asha Omar Ahmed thanked the Ugandan
contingent for the support. The drugs we are using today are AMISOM drugs

Sector One Ugandan contingent because it is their day Army day. And we
appreciate the services we are receiving from them, she said.
A luncheon to mark the day was later held at the Halane base camp and attended by
the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission
Ambassador Mmaman Sidikou and his Deputy Lydia Wanyoto.
Others present at the luncheon included the Acting AMISOM Force Commander Maj.
Gen. Jonathan Rono, the UN Deputy Special Representative for Somalia Raisedon
Zenenga, and the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia Olgan Bekar.
Ambassador Sidikou lauded the Ugandan peacekeepers for being the first African
force to secure Somalia. He said, Brothers and sisters, you were first on the frontline
here in 2007. We are just proud of you. You are here because Africa called, because
our sisters and brothers of Somalia called. You are here in defense of freedom and
liberty. You are fighting so that hatred is not instilled in our children, so that that Africa
returns the values inherited from our forefathers irrespective of religion.
The Chief of Army of the Somali National Army General Dahir Adan Elmi said, Today
I would like to thank the Ugandan government, the Ugandan people, and Ugandan
army on behalf of Somali National Army. Thank you very much for helping us to drive
out Al-Shabaab. Uganda was the first country to answer the call from the Somali
government and it was a courageous move. President Museveni did a great job and
started sending troops to Somalia. That was actually the move that we will remember
forever.
