Supplement 531/02 E to manual HB 602

ZX2
Gas-insulated medium voltage switchgear
Switchgear with parallel busbars

Scope

This supplement is an addition to manual

HB602 E and describes the technical deviations with regard to installation and operation
of ZX2 switchgear with parallel busbars in
comparison with conventional ZX2 switchgear in single busbar design.
2

Outgoing feeder panels with

feeder currents up to 2500 A

2.1

Technical description

On earthing, the earthing switch is operated while the pure disconnector remains
in the OFF position.
2.2

Emergency manual operation of the three position

disconnector
and the disconnector

Manual operation of the three position disconnector and disconnector on failure of

supply voltage or failure of a mechanism
motor can only be carried out by trained
and qualified personnel working on the
relevant operating mechanism as follows.

On manual operation of the

mechanisms there is no protection against maloperation!

Switch the mcbs for the motoroperated mechanisms of the

three position disconnector, the
disconnector and for the circuit-breaker
operating mechanism (release circuit and
charging motor) off.

Fig. 1: Circuit diagram of an outgoing feederpanel (operating current up to 2500 A)

The feeder current coming from the two parallel busbars is fed via the two disconnectors
and the circuit-breaker to the cable sockets.
Operation and control of the switching devices is effected exclusively by the protection
and control unit in the relevant panel.
With electrical control, both disconnectors
in the outgoing feeder panel are operated in
parallel.

screw example of the three position disconnector operating mechanism

Switch the circuit-breaker in the relevant

panel off.

Panels with operating currents

over 2500 A and up to 4000 A

Remove the screw shown in figure 2.

3.1

Technical description

Swing the access interlock flap to the right

to expose the emergency manual operation shaft.
Operate the relevant mechanism as described in instruction manual BA 515 E.
Remember that both disconnectors have
to be operated for the required current
carrying capacity to be reached.
On completion of the switching operations, refit the screw shown in figure 2.

Fig. 3: Circuit diagram of an incoming feeder

panel (operating current 2500 A to 4000 A)
Two panels of 800 mm width each are connected in parallel. The operating current coming from the cable sockets is fed via the two
circuit-breakers and the four disconnectors
in the two panels to the two parallel busbars.
Control of the switching devices is effected
by the protection and control unit in the relevant panel. Operation is performed on the
master unit for both panels.
The display on the human-machine interface
of the protection and control unit shows the
function of the two panels as if they were single busbar panels.
On electrical operation, the two disconnectors in each panel and the two panels are operated in parallel.
On earthing, the two earthing switches are
operated while the pure disconnectors remain in the OFF position.

3.2

Assembly of the mechanical link

for the circuit-breaker OFF button
(figures 4 to 7)

Before sliding the panels together, push the

connecting sleeve for the mechanical link of
the circuit-breaker OFF button to one of the
two shafts. When the panels have been slid
together, insert the tee nut into the slots of
the two shafts. Bolt the coupling piece to the
two shafts.

3.3

Emergency manual operation of

the circuit-breaker

Remember that the protection

relays are disabled on failure of
the supply voltage!

On failure of the supply voltage, the two

circuit-breakers can be switched off at
any time using the mechanical OFF button. The two circuit-breakers are mechanically linked, with the result that operation
of the mechanical OFF button for one circuit-breaker automatically switches both
circuit-breakers off (figure 8).

If necessary, charge the stored-energy springs of the circuit-breakers

as described in instruction manual
BA463E.
Dismantle the mechanical link between the OFF buttons of the two
circuit-breakers in the incoming feeder
panel.
Remove the front covers of the two circuit-breaker operating mechanisms.

Caution: There are moving parts

in the operating mechanism enclosures!

Mechanical OFF button

Fig. 8: Mechanical OFF button for the circuitbreaker in a 4000 A panel
Closing of the circuit-breakers (e.g. for
earthing of the outgoing feeder) without
supply voltage can only be carried out by
trained and qualified personnel working
on the circuit-breaker operating mechanism as follows.

Ensure that the three position switches and the disconnectors in the
panel are each in the same limit positions, i.e.

both earthing switches must be closed

and both disconnectors open, or
the four disconnectors must be closed, or
all the switches in the panel must be
open!
Switch the mcbs for the release circuits and
the charging motors of the circuit-breakers
off.

Slide
Pin on the blocking magnet
Fig. 9: View into the enclosure of a circuitbreaker operating mechanism with the front
cover removed. Closing the circuit-breaker by
deblocking the blocking magnet -RL1 (-Y1).
To close the circuit-breaker, press the
pin on the blocking magnet -RL1 (-Y1)
to the right as shown in figure 9, and
move the slide at the same time.

3.4

Emergency manual operation of

the three position disconnectors
and the disconnectors

Manual operation of the three position

disconnectors and disconnectors on failure of supply voltage or failure of a mechanism motor can only be carried out by
trained and qualified personnel working
on the relevant operating mechanism as
follows.

On manual operation of the mechanisms there is no protection

against maloperation!

Switch the mcbs for the motoroperated mechanisms of the three

position disconnectors, the disconnectors and for the circuit-breaker operating
mechanisms (release circuit and charging
motor) off.

Remove the screw shown in figure 2.

Swing the access interlock flap to the
right to expose the emergency manual
operation shaft.
Operate the relevant mechanism as
described in instruction manual BA
515.
Remember that four disconnectors or
two earthing switches have to be operated for the required current carrying
capacity to be reached.
On completion of the switching operations, refit the screw shown in figure 2.
