STATEMENT OF PURPOSE FOR MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAM IN MECHANICAL

ENGINEERING
Sirs,
I am writing to apply for the Masters programme in Mechanical Engineering for Autumn
2015 in which I am particularly interested. I am a 24 years old Male Mechanical Engineer,
having completed:

B.E.(Hons) Mechanical Engineering with a CGPA of 7.72 on the scale of 10 (First

Division) from BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus- UAE
2 years and 3 months hands on experience as Project Engineer in Infrastructure
Construction industry, specifically in Diesel Generators Installation, Design and
Complete Installation of Fuel transfer systems for Diesel Engines.

I believe, the knowledge gained through my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering with

courses in Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Fluid mechanics, and Material science &
Metallurgy, Production Technology, Metrology, Instrumentation, Design and Production
Management have provided commendable ground work for advanced study, and my
professional experience would serve me better in understanding about Mechanical
Engineering concepts and practical applications.
For a given opportunity to join your world class institution for Masters degree program,
where I can be trained to become an excellent engineer, I would like to work in the practical
and research areas of Mechanical Engineering. I am interested to work on projects where I
can be exposed to the experimental and modelling aspects of research work.
I consider myself to be highly self- confident and an ambitious individual. I prefer to lead the
path of logic and reasoning to solve the shortfalls of everyday life. During these school days I
was also a high achiever in the areas of music and games being an active participant in the
school music band and soccer team. It was during these school days I feel I have gained true
leadership qualities and opened my thought process to a whole new level. it has changed me
for the better and made me a highly motivated and inquisitive individual and has given me
the ability to solve any problem I put my mind on. I am a person who would lay the
foundation for beginnings or a person who start things up. During my professional service, I
was the first one to go for site surveys, submission of bids, negotiations and execution
including documentations and client meetings. I am sincere and dedicated in my endeavours
and nothing would stop me from achieving what I aim for. I have been appreciated by my
University Professors and my Employer, for my sincere and dedicated attitude.
I consider Italy as my preferred destination for higher studies as it is a research intensive and
highly industrialized country and that the investment in R&D is among the highest in the
world. It is a best place for innovation and creativity and provides an ideal environment for
intellectual stimulation and holistic development of an individual. Today Italy ranks among
the 8 most industrialised countries in the world. Alongside some big companies, both stateowned and private, it has developed a sound network of small and medium-sized

undertakings, promoted a few scientific parks, and is incentivizing basic and applied research
in a great variety of fields. Also, Italy is the fourth largest national economy in Europe, the
eighth largest nominal GDP in the world and is the birth place of many world conquering
companies like M/s. Saipem, M/s. Ferrari, M/s. Beretta, M/s. Prysmian group etc.
My objective is to become a professional Mechanical Engineer-trained in a world class
Institution, a good citizen and to contribute to the global community positively. Mechanical
Engineering is one of the oldest and broad field of engineering and I believe the knowledge
gained through this course can be put to use in areas such as manufacturing plants,
automobiles, vessels, robots, heating and cooling systems, aircraft and even in medical
devices , improving their efficiency, consequently leading to a better, healthier economy and
community. I am sure that I have chosen the right institution to continue my Higher education
as it is one of the topmost institutions in the world and one of the best in Italy. The industrial
links provided by your institute I feel is one if not the best in the world.
The journey ahead promises to be a challenging one, it may be no doubt be strenuous and
difficult at times. But then, the thrill one gets when discovers something new at the frontiers
of human knowledge, however small the contribution may be, is incomparable.
