English Communication Arts and Skills

Through Filipino Literature
By Josephine B. Serrano and
Milagrs G. Lapid
The RBEC Curriculum
COURSE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The series English Communication Arts and Skills seeks to present an integrated approach to the study of English by using literature to
portray it as a living language. The approach. For this year level, the focus is on Philippine Literature. The approach is likewise situational in
that it introduces real life situations within the experiential background of the youth through the featured literary pieces. The approach is
considered sequential in that it organizes literature into chronological patterns suitable for high school students while the language lessons
follow the development pattern, that is, from the simple to complex. It aims to be interdisciplinary by bringing into the exercises materials
on the natural sciences, arts, and the ideals and goals of a reformist society, and by discussing such issues as environmental awareness,
peace education, and the like. This approach is also communication oriented through its inclusion of listening and writing exercises geared
toward developing in the students facility of self-expression in the language.
