Water Shortage
A report shows that one in five people do not have safe water to drink. By 2025, this number could be as high as one out of three people. More than two million die each year because they do not have clean water to drink.

On March 16th, a Japanese man set out on an ocean voyage. The 69-year old will travel 6,400 kilometres in a wave-powered boat. The trip should take about 2.5 months.

Runaway Cow in Toronto
On March 20th, Toronto police shot a cow that was holding up rush hour traffic. The cow had fallen off of a truck. After it had hurt two people and charged police, the 1000-pound cow was shot.

Canadian Woman in Mexican Jail
Brenda Martin is a Canadian woman who has been in a Mexican jail for more than two years. Martin worked as a cook for a man who ran an illegal Internet scheme. She has not been found guilty. Prime Minister Stephen Harper says he can’t demand that she be freed.

Jeff Healy died on March 2nd. The blind rocker had had an eye cancer since the age of one. He was 41 years old. Healy was best known for his guitar playing and great blues style.

A study suggested that Quebec set up highway tolls. It said tolls would help to pay for roadwork. Those who use the roads the most would have to pay the most for repairs. The government did not accept the idea.

A Laval woman bought a snowplow to clear snow from her street. Dimitra Provias was upset about her street’s lack of snow removal so she bought a $4,000 plow for her SUV. Provias and her husband have been clearing their road ever since.
