TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Pre-Student Teacher-1st grade Fall 2006 Ann Arbor School District • Worked with an academically and ethnically diverse group of students in small and large group settings specifically in areas of math and language arts. • Developed and enacted multiple read-aloud lessons dealing with multiculturalism and reading comprehension strategies. Pre-Student Teacher-5th grade Chelsea Public Schools

Winter 2007

Co-planned and co-taught social studies lesson with a teaching colleague.  Developed and enacted interdisciplinary lesson plans that integrated language arts and social studies concepts and ideas. Pre-Student Teacher-3rd grade Fall 2007 Chelsea Public Schools • Analyzed and adapted multiple existing science lessons to align with the scientific inquiry-based design format. • Observed guided reading groups and later led the accompanying small-group instruction. • Taught level-based math lesson using the Everyday Math curriculum; designed end-of-class checks to facilitate the following day’s instruction. Student Teacher-3rd grade Winter 2008 Chelsea Public Schools • Designed and enacted a complete Language Arts unit based on the Debbie Miller approach to reading comprehension strategies. • Led four reading groups based on the Fountas and Pinnell guided reading program. • Implemented daily math instruction to lower-level students using the Everyday Math curriculum. • Organized a Heritage Feast in my classroom, in which students and I celebrated each others’ ethnic backgrounds by eating food that is native to our ancestors’ countries. The feast was designed as an end

Tutored fifth-grade and seventh-grade Taiwanese students in areas related to Language Arts.  Developed and enacted several one-on-one lessons involving vocabulary building, reading comprehension strategies, and creative writing prompts. 4H Camp Counselor—Lapeer, MI July of 2002-2004 • Responsible for daily care of between 8-12 campers at a time, ranging in ages from 9-12. • Collaborated with fellow counselors to organize camp events, including a talent show, nightly camp fire songs, and an end-of-camp celebration. Elementary School Art Docent—Lapeer, MI Sept. 2003-May 2004 • Volunteered with Lapeer School District’s “I See Art” program, in which I presented first-grade classrooms with well-known paintings on a monthly basis, and used the paintings to facilitate discussion and help foster art appreciation.
