And so SayyidÏ AËmad kept company with him (i.e. with SayyidÏ AbÏ alQÁsim al-WazÏr) and remained with him until his passing away to the
mercy of AllÁh Ta‘ÁlÁ (i.e. until the death of SayyidÏ AbÏ al-QÁsim alWazÏr).
Then he (i.e. SayyidÏ AËmad) turned to AllÁh Ta‘ÁlÁ [in the hope] that
He would indicate to him the shaykh al-murabbÏ [that he is to follow
next among those] from all the lands in the East and the West.
And he (i.e. SayyidÏ AËmad) said:
Among the benefits that I found in performing service to the
spiritual masters (mashÁyikh) is that I developed a great [spiritual]
aspiration, and I had thought that I will never stop from keeping
company of one [shaykh] after another, until it was said to me
from the Divine Presence, “There is none left on the surface of the
earth from whom you can derive [spiritual] benefit except the
Quran.”
And he (i.e. SayyidÏ AËmad), may AllÁh Ta‘ÁlÁ be well pleased with him,
said:
So I sat for a number of years, and I did not occupy myself with
anything but the Glorious Quran.

Then the Messenger of AllÁh, may AllÁh shower blessings and
peace upon him and his family, made me a brother to the Quran
(i.e. brother from a spiritual point of view, which means among
other things, that he was given a very special spiritual opening
with which he knew all the various external and internal meanings
of the Quran, and he knew them as intimately as he knew his own
brother).
And he (i.e. the Messenger of AllÁh, may AllÁh shower blessings
and peace upon him and his family) said, “Bring out for it, what is
in you from the [various spiritual] sciences and [spiritual] secrets.”
And so [it came to pass that] whenever he, may AllÁh be well pleased
with him, was asked about any verse from the Glorious Quran, the
realities of meanings and [spiritual] minutiae [of the verse] were brought
to him [from the vast and unfathomable oceans of His mercy and
bounty], of which the minds were dazzled and the intellects and
transcriptions were incapable of perceiving (i.e. the intellects of the
common people were so overwhelmed that they were unable to
completely comprehend the realities of meanings and the spiritual
minutiae of the verse, what more to have the realities of meanings and
the spiritual minutiae of the verse correctly and accurately described and
transcribed later).
