1. THESIS STATEMENT

Present the projects argument or interpretation in two sentences. If you are using the NHD theme, you might want to make it
evident in your thesis statement.

The Black Panther Party demonstrated leadership by advocating self-defense, believed in


community empowerment by providing social programs and believed in black owned businesses.

2. SUMMARY OF PROJECT

Briefly explain your project and its conclusion. Include: How and why did change happen and what was the impact? Why is
it historically significant? What historical meaning or importance can we learn from your findings?

The Black Panther Party fought against the racism and brutality of Americas police forces. The
Black Panther Party practiced militant self-defense against the U.S of minority communities against the
U.S government. Also, the party was the first in the U.S to practice militant forces to fight for the
equality of economic, social, political, gender and color lines.

Explain how this project integrates the NHD theme Leadership & Legacy in [Chicago/Illinois] History into its argument.

This project integrates the NHD theme of Leadership and Legacy in [Chicago/Illinois] History because the trials of the
Black Panther Party continue as an important part of the ongoing struggle of everyday Black, White, Brown people for
complete and uncompromising justice and human rights.

4. PROCESS
A. What historical question did you start off withand how did it change once you began doing
your research?
Our historical question was How did BPP demonstrate leadership? What was BPPs legacy? It did
not change once we began our research.

B. What kinds of sources did you use as evidence to develop your argument (for example,
letters, photographs, government documents, interviews, etc.)?
We used sources such as articles, newspapers, books, and photographs. We went to the Chicago
Public library to search for articles that are related to the Black Panther Party and what they did to
make a change in Chicago.

C. Select one piece of evidence that you used and explain how it influenced your argument.

We Want An Immediate End To


Police Brutality And Murder Of Black People.
-The Ten-Point Program
This influenced our argument because this helps support our thesis. Its one of the main components
as to why the organization was created. The organization (BPP) wanted to help minorities in working
class communities to help protect the people.
