NIRVANA Variable Speed Drive, Oil Free, Rotary Screw Air Compressor Feature – Benefit Analysis 55-160kW (75-200

Control Methodology
Feature: Benefit: Optimized Flow at any Pressure The Nirvana Oil Free compressor utilizes the Nirvana SGNe Intellisys™ Controller to optimize the speed of the airend. This allows the compressor to precisely match compressed air requirements at the required pressure setting with up to 50% turndown (depending on model and pressure). Maximum flow is achieved at each pressure increment from 65 to 150 psig (4.5-10.3 barg). Consequently, the Nirvana Oil Free is not limited to a unique pressure configuration. It provides the customer with significant flexibility in establishing flow and pressure. Constant Pressure Control The unique combination of transcendent technology (Intellisys™ microprocessor/transducer/VFD/ HPM® motor) allows the Nirvana compressor to maintain target pressure within a pressure band of 1 psig (0.1 barg). By providing stable pressure at any demand, there is no system over pressurization: this results in energy savings. Each 1

barg of excessive system pressure equals approximately 7% of applied system pressure (Each 2 psig of excessive system pressure equals approximately 1% of the applied system BHP.)

HYBRID PERMANENT MAGNET®® (HPM®) Motor The HPM® motor technology combines the reliability of a permanent magnet rotor with the strength of salient stator coils. The ratio of weight to delivered power is very small (33% of the size of a traditional induction motor with three times the magnetic flux). This allows the HPM® motor to be directly attached to the bull gear shaft of the oil free compression module. This arrangement eliminates the energy and maintenance costs associated with the friction inherent in motor bearings. Unlimited Starts and Stops The HPM® motor technology has the ability to start and stop as frequently as low air demand dictates. Unlike traditional compressor motors, Nirvana’s HPM® motor can start and stop infinitely with no damage to the motor. The low demand “stop” feature of Nirvana provides compressor shut down when motor rpm falls below minimum programmed speed; therefore saving the energy costs of unloaded operation. Increased Air Gap

Benefit:

Increased air gap means that the HPM® motor is capable of operating in conditions up to 115oF (46°C) without nuisance shutdowns. As standard, the HPM® motor has a 1.25 service factor (1.21 @ 132kW and 160kW), thus extending the life of the motor.

UltraCoat™ Rotor Coating Process This patented process includes a combination of rotor preparation, robotic micro-application, specially formulated coating, and heated curing process that provides a mechanical bond of coating to rotor surface. The durability of this process resists particulate and thermal erosion therefore ensuring years of specified performance. This coating process reduces life cycle costs by extending the life of the airend while consistently providing the purchased performance. Triple Inlet Air-Cooled After-cooler (125-200hp / 90-160kW) The air-cooled after-cooler system utilizes three tubes for pre-cooling second stage discharge air and delivering it to the three-sectioned after-cooler. This system provides minimal pressure drop and protects the coolers from the stress created by thermal expansion. Consequently, the system offers reduced operating costs through energy conservation and extended cooler service. Hooded Inlet Filter The two-stage inlet filter that is used by Nirvana is 99.99 efficient at 3 micron. The canister type filter will meet the needs of almost any industrial environment, but if greater filtration is needed, options are available. Centrifugal Blower (air-cooled) The use of a centrifugal blower provides better distribution of cooling airflow and increases the amount of static pressure that can be applied to the Nirvana package. Nirvana is suitable for ducting as the system allows the addition of 0.50” (124.5 Pa) static head to the cooling air discharge. Drive Motor Inverter Integrated in the Package This advanced drive system gives the Nirvana compressor a controlled soft start, eliminating current and torque surges associated with startup inrush. This ramp-up type starting extends component life for increased system reliability. Blower Motor Inverter Integrated in the Package The cooling system “intelligently” considers second stage inlet, package discharge and ambient temperatures to vary the speed of the centrifugal blower. Varying the speed of the blower: a) prolongs the life of airend bearings by providing stable lubricant temperature; b) maximizes energy efficiency with effective inter and after-cooling; c) significantly reduces sound levels at traditional demand loading (74 Rated for Continuous Duty 100% Full Flow Operation The rugged, time proven IR airends, coupled with HPM® motor technology and integrated inverter, provide the Nirvana Oil Free compressor with the ability to run at 100% load / 24 hours a day/ 365 days a year.

Enclosure Hinged Panels The Nirvana Oil Free compressor package is remarkably uncluttered with maintenance items readily accessible behind, sound insulated, hinged panels. The low-sound design allows Nirvana to run in point of use locations (at full load: air-cooled 79 dBA / water-cooled 74 dBA). Easy Maintenance The Nirvana compressor places all maintenance checks and consumables in easily accessible locations. To further aid in the proper operation of Nirvana Oil Free compressor, the Intellisys™ SGNe microprocessor displays maintenance requirements. With the addition of Intelliguard™, Nirvana can be remotely monitored via a phone modem. Perform In-House Audits Built into Nirvana Oil Free Intellisys™ SGNe controller are energy status screens than can be set to monitor specific measurement periods. Average capacity, kW/hr, and energy cost are some of the measurements taken while Nirvana is operating. The energy status screens will demonstrate the effectiveness of the control methodology and reveal when system problems are occurring.
