Bom in Washington, D.C., Rita attended several grammar schools in different parts of the country before her career Marine father finally settled the family in Palatine, Illinois in 195S Rita attended both Bradley Uuhersity and the University of Illinois and has worked I in the real estate, insurance and banking fields. From 1977-E7, she ivas the sole proprietor of an antique and gift store in downtown Palatine. She is currently employed as a Director of Government .Affairs by the I Save-A-Life Foundation, an organization dedicated to teaching basic Hfe saving teclmiques to children and bystanders Rita and her husband John of forty-three year* raised their three children in Palatine and have ten grandchildren Elected the first woman Mayor in 1989 and reelected in 1993 199'-. 2001 and 2005 she previously served as Village Clerk for i?isiit vsars She not rmtv devotes her time to Village concerns but also uses her expertise and skills to serve on the Executive Boards of the US Conference of Mavcrs. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 1989-Present-Mayor Village of Palatine. IL Currently serving a fifth four-year term. Chief executive officer of a municipality established in 1866 with a population of almost 70,000 and yearly budget of S121 million. Responsible for delivery of Fire, Police, Water, Road, and Sewer Services Secured 4.7 million funding for senior housing. Created neighborhood based policing program, encouraged growth in business and residential tax base through annexation Abated 2.1 million in real estate taxes. Implemented aggressive reconstruction and enhancement of 2 major roadways and all major entrances. Designed the new train station in revitalized downtown.
