Background ;
Injection of Local Anesthesia(ILA) for the purpose of general surgery such as Toilet &
Suture(T&S), Incision & Drainage(I&D) and others with the usage of the Injection of
Lignocaine Hcl2% (IL) had been practiced in almost every hospital and health clinic in
Malaysia. most of the practices were based on previous experiences or via reference of
other staff while until now the best implementation of ILA towards patients are still
varied in views of many people.
Objective ;
To indentify the effectiveness of the usage of the ILA before and after the procedures by
based on the result of the Pain Score(PS) told by the patient. This research also aimed
to identify the time duration on the effect of Hcl2% via Pain Score surveys questionnaire
also the relationship of factors that can influence the effectiveness of the ILA.
Methodology ;
This is a quantitative and cross sectional research. Samples are taken via simple
random probability. Surveys form are also being used to identify the knowledge and skill
of the health provider. Pain Score are taken via surveys forms also being used to
identify the effectiveness of ILA also statistical test by using T-test and Anova.
Result ;
87 staffs from Emergency Department(ED) from four hospitals respons the feedback
from the surveys and those 87 patients who is being treated from ED were also being
chosen as responden. Based on the result gained, most of the staff were lack in
knowledge of basic of LA given to the patient(44.8%). The effectiveness of the LA
Lignocaine Hcl2% within 5 minutes before procedures(Mean PS 6.7) and 5 minutes
after the procedure (Mean PS 3.0) are more significant (p<0.05). The mean LA used
was 4.4ml for each of wound sized 5cm also an effective significance(p<0.04).
However, the researcher found that there were no significant difference as the smoking
habit, alcoholic consumption, and someone with chronic disease CVD will reduce the
effectiveness of the LA given to them(p>0.05).
Conclusion ;
The procedure of minor surgery towards a patient should be done with Best Practice to
maintain the professional ethics while treating a patient. the effectiveness of ILA for
minor surgery will be able to reduce the effect of emotional trauma incident for patient
who had been treated in hospitals and health clinics in Malaysia.
