What is Material Classification :

Material classification is the systematic grouping
and arranging of materials according to certain
logical categories.
Example: Class code (5010), is for
TRANSFORMERS, CURRENT, RATED 1 KV OR LESS

First LEVEL:
Identifies the main group

TRANSFORMERS

Identifies the item type under

the main group

Negative aspects of current Classification Codes
1. Multiple classification methodology (stations - type turbine ..)

2.The existence of more than one group in one classification code.

3. The inability of Classification to contain the types of materials for

a single commodity group.
