असंु य ईयुर का रत ते नो.अव ुपतरो हवेषु ||

asuya īyuravtajñāste no.avantupitaro haveu || May they who have attained the life of spirits, gentle and righteous, aid us when we call them.

इदं यो नमो अ ये पूवास ो य उपरास ईयुः |

idapitbhyo namo astvadya ye pūrvāso ya uparāsa īyu|

  • 2 Now let us pay this homage to the Fathers, to those who passed of old and those who followed,

ये पािथव े रज या िनष ा ये वा नूनं सु जनासु ||

ye pārthive rajasyā niattā ye vā nūnasuvjanāsuviku || Those who have rested in the earthly region, and those who dwell among the Mighty Races.

आहं पतनॄ सु वद ान स नपात ंच मण ंच णोः |

āhapitn suvidatrānavitsi napātaca vikramaacaviṣṇo|

  • 3 1 have attained the gracious-minded Fathers, I have gained son and progeny from Viṣṇu.

षदो ये सवधया सुत य भज तहैागिम ाः ||

barhiado ye svadhayā sutasya bhajanta pitvastaihāghamiṣṭ||

  • They who enjoy pressed juices with oblation seated on sacred grass, come oftenest hither.

षदः पतर ऊ यवाि गमा वो ह या च मा जषु वम |

barhiadapitara ūtyarvāghimā vo havyā cakmā juadhvam |

  • 4 Fathers who sit on sacred grass, come, help us: these offerings have we made for you; accept them.

10.15.8

त आ गतावसा श तमेनाथा नः शं योररपोदधात ||

ta ā ghatāvasā śantamenāthā naśayorarapodadhāta || So come to us with most auspicious favour, and give us health and strength without a trouble.

उपह ताः पतरः सो यासो ब येषु िनिधषु प रयेषु |

upahūtāpitarasomyāso barhiyeu nidhiu priyeu |

  • 5 May they, the Fathers, worthy of the Soma, invited to their favourite oblations.

त आ गम त ुत इह श विध ब त ुत.ेअव मान ||

ta ā ghamantu ta iha śruvantvadhi bruvantu te.avantvasmān || Laid on the sacred grass, come nigh and listen: may they be gracious unto us and bless us.

या जानु द णतो िनष में य मिभ गण |

ācyā jānu dakiato niadyemayajñamabhi ghṛṇītaviśve |

  • 6 Bowing your bended knees and seated southward, accept this sacrifice of ours with favour.

मा हंिस पतरः केन िचन नो यद व आगःपु षता कराम ||

mā hisiṣṭa pitarakena cin no yad va āghapuruatā karāma || Punish us not for any sin, O Fathers, which we through human frailty have committed.

आसीनासो अ णीनामुप थ ेरियं ध दाशुषे म याय |

āsīnāso aruīnāmupasthe rayidhatta dāśue martyāya |

  • 7 Lapped in the bosom of the purple Mornings, give riches to the man who brings oblations.

पु ेयः पतर य व वः पर यछत त इहोज दधात ||

putrebhyapitarastasya vasvapra yachata ta ihorjandadhāta || Grant to your sons a portion of that treasure, and, present, give them energy, ye Fathers.

ये नः पूव पतरः सो यासो.अनू हरे सोमपीथवंिस ाः |

ye napūrve pitarasomyāso.anūhire somapīthavasiṣṭ|

  • 8 Our ancient Fathers who deserve the Soma, who came, most noble, to our Soma banquet,—

तिेभय मः संरराणो हवीं युश नुश ः परितकामम ||

tebhiryamasararāo havīṃṣyuśannuśadbhipratikāmamattu || With these let Yama, yearning with the yearning, rejoicing eat our offerings at his pleasure.

ये ता षुद ा जेहमाना हो वद सतोमत ासोक |

ye tātṛṣurdevatrā jehamānā hotrāvida stomataṣṭāsoarkai|

  • 9 Come to us, Agni, with the gracioug Fathers who dwell in glowing light, the very Kavyas,

ने या ह सु वद िेभरवा यैः क यैः भघ मस ||

āghne yāhi suvidatrebhirarvāsatyaikavyaipitbhirgharmasadbhi|| Who thirsted mid the Gods, who hasten hither, oblation winners, theme of singers' praises.

ये स यासो ह वरदो ह पा इ ेण देवैः सरथ दधानाः |

ye satyāso havirado havipā idrea devaisarathandadhānā| 10 Come, Agni, come with countless ancient Fathers, dwellers in light, primeval, God-adorers,

ने या ह सह ं देवव दैः परैःपूव भघ मस ||

āghne yāhi sahasradevavandaiparaipūrvaipitbhirgharmasadbhi|| Eaters and drinkers of oblations, truthful, who travel with the Deities and Indra.

वा ाः पतर एह गछत सदः-सदः सदतसु णीतयः |

aghnivāttāpitara eha ghachata sada-sadasadatasupraītaya|

  • 11 Fathers whom Agni's flames have tasted, come ye nigh: ye kindly

leaders, take ye each your proper place.

ा हवीं ष परयतािन ब यथारियं सवव ीरं दधातन ||

attā havīṃṣi prayatāni barhiyathārayisarvavīradadhātana || Eat sacrificial food presented on the grass: grant riches with a multitude of hero sons.

तवम न ईिळतो जातवेदो.अवाड ढ यािन सुरभी वी |

tvamaghna īito jātavedo.avāḍ ḍhavyāni surabhīiktvī |

  • 12 Thou, Agni Jātavedas, when entreated, didst bear the offerings which

thou madest fragrant,

परादाः यः सवधया त ेअ तव देव परयता हवीं ||

prādāpitbhyasvadhayā te akannaddhi tvandeva prayatā havīṃṣi || And give them to the Fathers who did cat them with Svadha. Eat, thou God, the gifts we bring thee.

ये चहे पतरो ये च नेह यां यानु च न |

ye ceha pitaro ye ca neha yāśca vidma yānu ca napravidma |

  • 13 Thou, Jātavedas, knowest well the number of Fathers who are here and

who are absent,

तवं वे थ यित त ेजातवेदः सवधािभय ंसु त ंजषु ||

tvavettha yati te jātavedasvadhābhiryajñasuktajuasva || Of Fathers whom we know and whom we know not: accept the sacrifice wellprepared with portions.

ये अ नद धा ये अन नद धा म ये दवः सवधयामादय त े|

ye aghnidaghdhā ye anaghnidaghdhā madhye divasvadhayāmādayante | 14 They who, consumed by fire or not cremated, joy in their offering in the midst of heaven,—

10.15.28

तिेभः सवराळ असुनीितमेतां यथावश वं क पय ||

tebhisvarāasunītimetāyathāvaśantanvakalpayasva || Grant them, O Sovran Lord, the world of spirits and their own body, as thy pleasure wills it.
