(New Kensington, Pa.) – In an effort to meet the growing demand for Christian fiction in the African American book market, Whitaker House has signed Essence bestselling author Vanessa Miller to a multi-book deal. Miller, known for her redemptive themes and colorful characters, is releasing Yesterday’s Promise, in April 2010, the first of a three-book series. “Vanessa brings with her a reputation not only for excellence as a writer, but also as a woman with strong spiritual roots and a heart to reach others with the gospel of Jesus Christ,” said Whitaker House Vice President Bob Whitaker, Jr.

Miller’s work has received numerous awards, including the Red Rose Award for Excellence in Christian Fiction and the Mahogany Award for Best Christian Fiction. Her novels with Kensington/Urban Christian and Abingdon Press have appeared on Essence Magazine’s bestsellers’ list. Miller is also a playwright, motivational speaker, and founding members of the “Anointed Authors on Tour,” seven bestselling authors who travel to various cities in support of literacy and the arts and to encourage aspiring authors. A native of Dayton, Ohio, she graduated from Capital University with a degree in Organizational Communication. Yesterday’s Promise is the first book of a series entitled, Second Chance of Love. ABOUT VANESSA MILLER
Vanessa Miller is a best-selling author, playwright, and motivational speaker. She started writing as a child, spending countless hours either reading or writing poetry, short stories, stage plays and novels. Vanessa’s creative endeavors took on new meaning in 1994 when she became a Christian. Since then, her writing has been centered on themes of redemption, often focusing on characters facing multi-dimensional struggles. Readers and critics alike have responded with overwhelming affirmation. Vanessa’s novels have received rave reviews, with several appearing on Essence Magazine’s Bestseller’s List. Miller’s work has receiving numerous awards, including “Best Christian Fiction Mahogany Award” and the “Red Rose Award for Excellence in Christian Fiction.” Her writing has also been nominated for the NAACP Image Award for Christian Fiction and as the Black Expressions Book Club Alternate Selection for the past three years. Miller graduated from Capital University with a degree in Organizational Communication.
