president Mahinda Rajapakse who is deeply in his toils spurred by most
despicable motives , is trying to split the SLFP party into two again. The
political discards - the dejected SLFP MPs who got on to his rejected
platform , in the past were afraid even of the animals that cannot speak in
Mahindas house , perhaps have got their heads smashed somewhere and
damaged it ,going by their current behavior , SLFP rescue organization
convener , Thusitha Halloluwa bemoaned, when he was interviewed by

Lanka e news.
Hereunder are excerpts of the interview :
LeN :
At the Ratnapura rally without Mahinda , there was a crowd of 100,000 for
Mahindas campaign .About 30 MPs of the SLFP attended it disregarding
the SLFP directive. As the SLFP rescue organization , how do you assess this
situation ?
Halloluwa :
The SLFP led UPFA formed a national government , and they secured a
number of ministerial portfolios. In any case all of them did not obtain
ministerial posts . It is these discarded politicos who haven t the country at
heart and dont understand this who mounted that stage at Ratnapura.
Besides , there are many corruption charges tainting these politicos. These
discards know that under the government of good governance their rackets
will get exposed. Hence their mounting the stage was to secure the excuse
which will give them ground to say , because they appeared on the stage
at Ratnapura , they are being accused when the corruption crimes are
fastened on them . Interestingly these are the politicos who were
castigating and denouncing the Rajapakse family administration on the sly.
They were not only frightened of Mahinda , but even his whole family earlier
on , so much so that they were even scared of the animals in Mahindas
home which cannot talk . In these circumstances , if these groups are now
claiming that Mahinda should be made the prime minister (PM) , surely they
have hit their heads hard on some object with some ulterior motives.
LeN :
What decision is the SLFP going to take in regard to these individuals ?
Haloluwa :
There is a party secretary and an executive committee. I think the party will
take disciplinary action. Otherwise the party discipline cannot be
maintained.
LeN :
Although SLFP is now a part of the national government , yet what do you
think of the course of action that is being followed by Mahinda Rajapakse
after he was made the advisor.
Hallolowa :
One thing is very clear. Mahinda never had any clear political goals . It is
well to recall, when a journalist questioned him on a political issue of the
country, before he became the president , his answer was : malli (brother) ,
please write whatever you want but save my skin. In other words , Mahinda
never reckoned the countrys important issues as his own.

His obsession was with feeding and fattening his family. Even today he has
no stable stance ,and knows not what is necessary to steer the country
forward .Otherwise , will he get together with these rejected dejected
politicos and clowns to do a stupid circus wasting money ?
LeN :
Yet , he is trying to become a Prime ministerial candidate ?
Halloluwa :
Does Mahinda have a right even to think of becoming a PM candidate ?
After Mahinda took over the reign , 28 electoral organizers were expelled ,
and who did he take in their places ? He took the UNP rejects and SLFP ers
who knew nothing except involved in rackets, to replace them. One simple
illustration is : after dismissing lawyer Keerthi Udawatte of Dehiwala
Galkissa and who was given his place ? Dhanasiri Amaratunge.
After removing Chandana Kasturiarachi who was looking for ways and
means to protect himself from the hooliganism of Kesbewa Gamini
Lokuge , it is the latter who was appointed in his place though Lokuge
continually attacked the SLFPers. These are a few of the many instances
illustrating Mahindas political indiscretions and selfishness.
This same Mahinda who destroyed the SLFP this way, invited those who
pole vaulted from other parties and were appointed by him as ministers
when Maithripala Sirisena was the SLFP secretary to a lunch and for a
meeting to teach them about the SLFP.
Mahinda did not even cancel that meeting. It is this same Mahinda who
says
there is nothing to teach about the SLFP ,and waxing eloquent about the
SLFP. Mahinda never had any desire to safeguard the SLFP. His sole and
whole objective was to safeguard his own selfish power .
How did he distribute the posts of electoral organizers and portfolios ?
The important ministries were allocated by him to the UNP defectors.
Werent they the UNP ers whom Mahinda claimed as were trying to kill
him? In Kurunegala and Galle districts , ministries were given to UNP ers.
Tell me one district where he favored the SLFP and appointed an SLFP
minister ?
Can such a Mahinda Rajapakse who disdained and discarded his own SLFP
members and gave place to racketeers talk for the SLFP ?
LeN :
In that case , doesnt Mahinda have any right at all to speak on behalf of
the SLFP ?
Hallolowa :

He has a right, but under that pretext he cannot be allowed to disintegrate

the SLFP . What he is trying to do now , is exactly what he did on earlier
occasions split the SLFP. The present SLFP ers have approved of the
leadership of Maithripala Sirisena and they have acknowledged the
ministries under the national government .What Mahinda is seeking
conjointly with the discarded and rejected parties is to break up the
SLFP .Didnt he do this before too ?During the time when Sirimavo lost her
civic rights and when the party was in dire straits , he went round the
country holding meetings against Sirimavo that she is not fit to be the
leader of the party in much the same way as at present. This was aimed at
breaking up the party. Thereafter what did he do again ? He made Anura
Bandaranaike to desert the SLFP while assuring that he will also join him.
Ultimately Mahinda did not follow suit thereby driving Anura into deep
turmoil and trouble.
Again , when S B Dissanayake was the secretary ,who made S.B. to join
the UNP ? it was Mahinda. All the discussions were held by S.B. with
Mahinda. Finally a group of the party including S .B. defected, but Mahinda
who engineered these moves slyly ,did not go. Every time there was a crisis
within the SLFP , Mahinda was at its center . In the end the SLFP which was
known as a democratic party was transformed by Mahinda into a dictatorial
family regime. On the 8 th of January 2015 the people had taught Mahinda
a bitter lesson. Therefore we can allow Mahinda to destroy himself but we
cannot allow him to destroy the SLFP party .
LeN :
What are the rescue efforts being made by the SLFP rescue organization in
the future ?
Hallolowa :
A fresh public opinion had emerged victorious. Except Mahinda and his
family , others have extended support. That public opinion must be allowed
room to forge ahead .It must be supported .Thereafter amidst the odds , a
new plan must be formulated for its successful political journey.
Let me cite one example : After Chandrika Bandaranaike won in 1994 , what
did Ranil Wickremesinghe do ? He probed into the drawbacks and setbacks
in the party . Then he discovered that the UNP by then was infected with
the Premadasa autocratic rule , and that was the reason for the defeat.
What did Ranil do? He purged the party of all those who were associated
with that evil trend. Even the party secretary was expelled. Individuals like
Soththi (crippled ) Upali who were in the working committee were
removed, and transformed the UNP into a democratic socialist party laden
with intellectuals and youths.
He took into the fold individuals like Mangala Samaraweera , Wijedasa
Rajapakse and Lakshman Kiriella of the SLFP. That is he took in those who

can be of service to the country not racketeers . He also decided to

commit himself to abolish the executive presidency which his own party
introduced. Those are what reaped rich dividends and earned him the
present success. Similarly , after assessing the damage that had been
inflicted on the SLFP by Mahinda Rajapakse , a new luster must be given
based on socialist democracy , going even beyond the UNP today of Ranil
Wickremesinghe ,and steered forward. It should not be inviting a dictator
again or war by flaunting the war effort carrying that on the shoulders. This
will take us nowhere . It will be like , if you start from nowhere you will only
get there.
All politicians must realize the world does not ever revolve in the reverse
direction. So let the SLFP rescue organization dedicate itself to achieving
its avowed goals.
