Divorce &Remarriage What Does God Say?
"A TFC Article" Jesus said, “Whoever divorces his wife and is married to another, commits adultery. And if a woman divorces her husband and is married to another, she commits adultery.” Mark 10:11-12 What has commonly been accepted in our society today with regards to divorce and remarriage has never been accepted in the sight of God. Although the world may change its views on what is right and wrong, the Bible remains the same, unchanging, upholding the true Biblical standard of morality. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever” Hebrews 13:8. With regards to divorce the Bible states that “God hates divorce” Malachi 2:16. Those vows made to God at the marriage ceremony were “till death do us part.” The only thing that can truly en a marriage is the death of one of the spouses. “For the woman is bound by law to her husband so long as he lives; but if the husband dies, she is free from the law of her husband … and can marry another man” Romans 7:2. Only death annuls the marriage covenant! Although the courts of this nation give a man or a woman a ‘legal’ divorce, the heavenly court above decrees ‘not so.’ God has never intended for husband and wife to divorce one another. “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” Matthew 19:6. Tragically, some have added ‘insult to injury’ by going a step further and not only divorcing their original spouse, but remarrying another! According to the Bible, this second marriage constitutes an adulteress relationship. “So then if, while the husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called and adulteress” Romans 7:3. In our society today it is said that nearly 50% of all marriages end in divorce and that most of these establish a second and sometimes third marriage relationship. Does the fact that “everyone is doing it” make it right? Did not God destroy the whole immoral world with a flood in Noah’s day and save only one household who was willing to live righteously? Is there safety in numbers? The world laughed at Noah in his day, but God laughed last. And men and women laugh at Biblical morality today, but who do you think will laugh last? "Because I have

called you and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and you didn’t pay attention to me; you set as nothing all my counsel, and wanted nothing of my reproof, I will laugh at your calamity, I will mock when your fear comes” Proverbs 1:24 To divorce your wife and marry another is to live in adultery (Luke 16:18). And God says that the adulterer shall not enter heaven! “Now the works of the flesh are clearly seen, which are these: ADULTERY, FORNICATION … IDOLATRY … HATE … MURDER … DRUNKENNESS … and such like; of which I tell you before, as I told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God” Galatians 5:19-21. While Noah warned his generation of the dangers of living in sin and of the coming flood, behind him was an open door inviting all into the ark for safety. Today, though the warning be severe, there remains an open door of all who will repent (turn from sin in their heart) and flee to Jesus for safety. “I am the door; by Me if any man enter in he shall be saved” John 10:9. “Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.” —Proverbs 5:18 “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” —Hebrews 13:4
