PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND TERTIARY


COLORS:
This is the most basic and the oldest known
classification of colors. Primary colors are also called
as pure colors, because they cannot be created by
mixing any other colors. Red, blue and yellow are the
only three primary colors. In the world of computers
and technology, primary colors are further classified
as additives and subtractives. We will discuss these in
detail later in this article. When you are creating any
artwork, it is advisable to avoid usage of only primary
colors. Primary colors are high in intensity and hence
their combination can be very hard on the eyes.
Secondary colors on the other hand, are a result of
mixing primary colors. Red + yellow would give you

WARM, COOL AND NEUTRAL COLORS:


Colors which invoke heat or warmth like the sun or fire
are known as Warm Colors. Colors such as red, yellow,

COMPUTING COLORS:
After the advent of computers and digitalization of
most publishing activities, a new scheme of colors
has come into existence. These are known as additive,
subtractive and pantone colors.
Additive colors are light based colors. Popularly
known as the RGB colors, these colors are used for
viewing on television and computer monitors. RGB

However, these colors tend to absorb light, and hence


do not reciprocate the same colors when printed. Thus
additive colors are strictly meant for devices reflecting
light, i.e. for online viewing.
Subtractive colors are pigment based colors.
Generally referred to as CMYK colors, these colors
offer a clever method of mixing paints for printing.
CMYK stands for "Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black".
Although most colors can be produced by mixing
these four, they cannot produce as many colors as the
additive colors, making yellows and greens appearing
a bit muddy on print. They however absorb lesser light
and can reproduce almost similar results on print as
compared to those visible on screen. Colors which fall
out of the purview of the CMYK color range are called

While placing text on a background, you need
to keep in mind certain thumb-rules. On a dark
background, use text of a lighter shade and vice-versa.
Patterns on backgrounds are a strict no-no if you need
to add text.
If you are not able to make up your mind while
choosing colors, you can use some free to use tools
from the Internet. One such tool is called as the "CAT"
or the Contrast Analysis Tool. You can download the

Create a distribution list
If you send emails to a set group of people or friends quite frequently,
you can save time by creating a distribution list. Once the distribution
list has been created, you can use it as a single entry rather than typing
individual email address.

TO create a distribution list, click "New


| Distribution List" from the Standard
toolbar. If the Standard toolbar is not
displayed, click "File | New | Distribution
List". A blank Distribution list appears.
Enter an appropriate name for the
list in the "Name" textbox.
In the "Members" section of the
Ribbon, click "Select Members". The
"Select Members" window appears.

DOUBLECLICK the contacts you


would like to add to the list. Added
contacts will appear in the "Members"
textbox.
Once required contacts are added
to the distribution list, click "OK". Go
to the Ribbon in the Distribution List
window.
From the "Actions" section, click
"Save & Close". You will now be able to
view the newly created distribution list
in your contacts.
