The current taxi and livery situation in our Capital Region is deplorable.
Dispatchers are rude, if they pick up the phone at all. Taxis rarely show up, when requested.
Passengers have no idea how much the fare is going to be. The cars are filthy.
When travelers arrive here - whether by bus, train, or by air, they are forced to share a cab with
strangers, and then each rider in that cab is charged full price. This practice is unheard of in other cities, and is
an embarrassing first impression for people who visit the Capital Region.

We must compete with other cities our size in order to expand business and attract young professionals
in order to sustain and grow our region's economic vibrancy.

Uber is a service that connects riders with drivers through a mobile app, offering a high quality, reliable
experience in hundreds of cities like ours, worldwide. And in the United States, Uber operates in regions of a
similar size, such as Augusta, GA, Harrisburg, PA, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, PA - so the prospect of our
area attracting such a service is not unfounded. From our initial correspondence with Uber, the response has
been encouraging. lf we are successful, we would be the first region in Upstate New York to have such a
service.
By offering taxi-alternatives like Uber, we can add jobs, improve the quality of life, cut down on impaired
driving, ease parking concerns, encourage people to dine at restaurants and shop at local stores, and
ultimately improve our carbon footprint (as it means fewer cars).

This is a no-brainer. We cannot afford to have our region be left behind, physically and economically.
We would like to schedule a discussion with you, if not together, to identify how we can move this issue

fonruard with hopefully each of your support. We also ask you to please use your influence to support and

encourage Uber to expand their services into the Capital Region, in conjunction with our outreach efforts.
