1 Product Overview
1.1 Introduction
With the multi-mode era coming, ZTE, who is dedicated to providing comprehensive
network solutions and delivering the future-oriented quality network for the operators,
developed the ground breaking SDR unified platform with the essential feature to
support multi-mode and multi-band radio access.
Based on this innovative SDR platform, ZTE promotes a series of base stations to
satisfy different scenario requirements, including Indoor Macro, Outdoor Macro,
Distributed, Outdoor Micro, and Mini BTS.
These SDR-based serial base stations aim to design a unified network which can bring
seamless experience to operators. In GSM, UMTS or mixed mode, it enables operators
to save CAPEX and OPEX significantly because they only need to deploy a Uni-Radio
Access Network, compared to the independent GSM and UMTS networks.
ZXSDR BS8906 is a multi-carrier, multi-mode outdoor compact base station which can
support GPRS/ EDGE/ Enhanced EDGE and UMTS/HSPA /HSPA+ simultaneously. It
can be flexibly configured as GERAN BTS, UTRAN Node B or G/U dual-mode base
station only by software reconfiguration. The appearance of ZXSDR BS8906 is shown in
the figure below.

1.2 Benefits
With High integration, small size and light weight, ZXSDR BS8906 is easy for
transportation and installation, thus the implementation cost can be reduced. It supports
several installation modes, including ground-mounted, pole-mounted and wall-mounted,
etc.
ZXSDR BS8906 can be installed both indoor and outdoor. It is designed as IP55
waterproof/dustproof and has C-level lightning protection module, which is adaptive to
outdoor environment.
Smooth Evolution
The PA efficiency achieves 50% with ZTE patent Doherty + DPD + D-PT technology.
Taking GSM S4 for example, the power consumption is 285W which is much less than
that of conventional compact base station.
IP RAN
ZXSDR BS8906 fully supports IP RAN and provides GE/FE or IPoverE1 for Abis/Iub
interfaces.

2 Product Architecture
2.1 Physical Structure
ZXSDR BS8906 has two kinds of hardware physical structures:
Compact cabinet
Standalone cabinet
In the compact cabinet, BS8906 consists of BBU, RSU, FCE, PSU+APM (AC)/DPM
(DC), LPU\SDH\microwave IDU etc. The internal communication takes place between
BBU, RSU and FCE.
BBU and the RSU connect to each other through the CPRI interface. FCE is responsible
for driving controlling and monitoring fans, controlling the on-off status of the heaters.
Besides, FCE collects and creates alarms of access control, temperature, flooding and
lightning alarms. FCE is connected to SA of the BBU through the RS485 interface to
monitor communication.
The standalone cabinet is similar to the compact cabinet, except that there is no RSU
module in it.

RSU82
RSU82 is a multi-carrier and multi-mode RF module, working on 850M/900M/1800M/1900M/2100MHz/AWS. One RSU82 can process 2 transmitting paths and 4 receiving
paths and thus support 2 sectors in GSM/UMTS or 1 sector with MIMO 2*2 in HSPA+.
RSU82 can be configured as GSM only, UMTS only or mixed mode. When RSU82 is
used in GSM mode, it can support maximal 2*4 TRXs with TOC output power 2*80W, or
2*6 TRXs with TOC output power 2*60W. When used in UMTS mode, it can support
2*3C with TOC output power 2*60W on 2100MHz or 2*60W on other frequency bands.
In G/U dual-mode, RSU82 can support 2*(4 GSM TRXs + 1 UMTS carrier) or 2*(2 GSM
TRXs + 2 UMTS carriers).
When slotted in BS8906, RSU82 has 2*20W output power maximally restricted by
software.
RSU82 module consists of MCPA module, transceiver module, and duplex filter LNA.
