Thankful for Many Things
When we heard that Nashville was going to get a serious amount of snow, excitement reigned. Some were a bit nervous, and most young people were thrilled. The snow and ice came, causing some delays and difficulties. I’m thankful that no one from Lebanon Road was hurt, although we did have a couple of minor traffic accidents. 168 still came to worship last Sunday and so many others had the desire, but just knew that it would be treacherous. However, these times should cause us to reflect on some of the things for which we are thankful. Here are some that come to my mind. I’m thankful for a warm house and the ability to pay the bills to keep it warm. I’m thankful for my family. When we’re snowed in, we still enjoy that time together. I’m thankful for so many at Lebanon Those are but two examples, but they show the depth of the love of Christ for the church. Husbands, do we love our wives that deeply?
Road who put others first, helping in many ways to make our services happen. I’m thankful for our elders, who thought of our safety in cancelling the night-time services. I’m thankful for God, who reminds us of His power and control by sending us different types of weather. No matter what comes our way, we need to look for things to be thankful for. Even when we have a few difficulties, there is always something we can see as good. God is still in control, and we can rest in His power and love.

“...As Christ Also Loved the Church”
As we continue to think about the Christian home, we are going to focus on husbands and wives for the next two weeks (weather permitting!). It is so easy to just talk about mothers and fathers, but fail to speak about the husband-wife relationship. Many families do not have children, some by choice, others due to difficulties. However, a husband and wife still have a great deal of work to do in order to have a home as God would have it. When they are willing to work at being the right kind of husband and wife, though, the relationship will be truly fulfilling. Husbands, today, we are going to study our God-given role. We are commanded to love our wives, “as Christ loved the church” (Ephesians 5:25). While there is no way we, in our humanity, can fully measure up to that perfect standard, that does not give us the right to avoid the effort to do so. Christ loved the church in every way possible, and husbands are to do the same for their wives. While Paul goes on to state that Christ even died for the church, that is not the only way in which He loved her. The cross provides the most obvious expression of the love Christ had for the church, but Christ loved the church in His life, too. He was never embar-
rassed to speak of the church, and it is His desire that the church be the very best it can be. The same should be true of husbands toward their wives. Far too many treat their spouse as nothing more than a punch line, but we should never be embarrassed to speak proudly about our spouse. We should always seek her best, and want her to be the very best she can be.
Due to our services being cancelled last Sunday night our young men will be leading our services tonight.

The Jewish Psalms have furnished the bridal hymns, the battle songs, the pilgrim marches, the penitential prayers, and the public praises of every nation in Christendom, since Christendom was born. They have rolled through the din of every great European battlefield; they have pealed through the scream of the storm in every ocean highway of the world. Drake’s sailors sang them when they clave the virgin waters of the Pacific; Frobisher’s, when they dashed against the barriers of Arctic ice and night. They floated over the waters on that day of days when England held her freedom against Pope and Spaniard, and won the naval supremacy of the world. They crossed the ocean with the Mayflower pilgrims; were sung round Cromwell’s campfires, and his Ironsides charged to their music; whilst they have filled the peaceful homes of England with the voice of supplication and the breath of praise. In palace halls, by happy hearths, in squalid rooms, in pauper wards, in prison cells, in crowded sanctuaries, in lonely wilderness----everywhere they have uttered our moan of contrition and our song of triumph; our tearful complaints, and our wrestling, conquering prayer.-----The Great Texts of the Bible.
