Tamara Adama said, Daddy, my heart isn't beating. Daddy, why isn't my heart beating?
Why isn't my heart beating? Why isn't it? (Caprica, Episode 2)
This quote said by Tamara Adama, the daughter of Joseph Adama, occurs when Joseph
talks to Tamara in the VR world after the accident. This scenario reminds me the plot of the
Adoration of Jenna Fox. Jenna has the same questions with Tamara: why she forgets
everything; why she is shorter than the girl in the video; why her scar disappeared, etc. How
Tamara and Jenna feel at first is weird, strange, not real, painful and isolated. However, they
are not able to understand or even hear their parents or fathers words. They cannot
understand their behaviors.
On the other hand, what Joseph said in VR world also reminds me Jennas parents
situation. When Joseph meets his daughter in VR world, what he repeats is that I miss you.
In his mind, he knows that they should not be died. The accident destroys everything about
his family. He has the dream to make everything right, to bring them back, and to live with
them in a family again. What Daniel Graystone said is right, in his mind. The accident is not
correct. Their children should not be died. In this case, Jennas parents, Claire and Mathew,
have the same opinion, so they give Jenna an artificial body and make her reborn. They have
the same dream and do not want their children died first. Nevertheless, Joseph realizes the
pain that his daughter is talking about. He denies the way that Daniel chooses to do. Although
he wants his daughter and his wife to come back, he has to admit their death and the accident.
If he let them come back, he will bring them more trouble and more pain. In this way, when
he hears Tamara says that she does not have heartbeats, he quits the VR world and gives up
this plan.
Besides, the situations in Jennas world and Josephs world are different. The
technologies are different. In Caprica, Zoe Graystone uses her fathers technologies to create
the VR world and create a copy of her, who has the same appearance and almost the similar
memory. In this way, when her copy is produced, Zoe can also talk to her copy by herself, but
only in the VR world. They have the same memory. In this case, even though Zoe is died in
the accident, she also can live in the world by using this copy. This is the way that helps
human to live forever. However, they do not have the technology to make a real human copy
in reality. Daniel tries to bring Zoes copy in the real world by using the robot, but Daniel still
cannot meet Zoe by his eyes unless using the VR band. Nevertheless, in the Adoration of
Jenna Fox, Jennas parents have the technology to make a copy of human but are unable to
copy the memory and the personality from the original person. In this case, when Jenna
wakes up, she feels uncomfortable since she does not have any memories before the accident.
On the other hand, when Tamara occurs in the VR world, she also feels uncomfortable since
she does not have a real body and she maybe does remember that there is something
happened in the past. These two behaviors to save a person are not perfect because they both
have the shortcomings, which can bring some troubles in the future.
Therefore, now, I come up with a question, which is if we combine these two
technologies and, lets say we are able to make the copy of human-body and also the copy of
human-memory, is this technology to save human or even make human being eternal right or
wrong?
Another question is that I am curious about in Caprica, does Daniel have the ability to
create a real copy of Zoes body and bring Zoes VR copy to reality, not by using the robot?
