Day 7 of the Earthquake Rescue & Relief Operations


Casualty Status
As per latest reports, 79 deaths have been reported so far in India 58 in Bihar, 17 in UP, 03 in West
Bengal and 01 in Rajasthan . A total of 566 people (275 in Bihar, 106 in Uttar Pradesh, 169 in West Bengal,
Sikkim 9 and 7 in Rajasthan) have been reported injured.
Relief Related Activities in India

The State Governments are taking measures at their own end for managing the disaster. None of the

States has requested for any central help till NDRF teams have been deployed as per this need and they have
been assured of full assistance from the centre.

NDRF Teams have rescued 11 persons alive and retrieved 122 dead bodies till date.

Rescue Operations - 1052 Nepalese citizens have rescued/evacuated by Indian teams to Military

hospitals so far. 152 Tourists including 19 foreign mountaineers rescued.

Food & Supplies

So far, India has rushed 74 tons of food packets & dry rations. 94 ton of water and 2 ton of

medicines. 1000 tents, 10000 blankets, 50 tarpaulins & 1000 plastic sheets. 525 tents and 4950 blankets
are underway from Kanpur.

UP Govt : Till date UP Govt has sent 51 truck load of medicines, dry food and mineral water. 256

buses/trucks with other items have also been dispatched.

Bihar Govt:

55 buses have been sent to Nepal with relief items. On the return journey they have

brought back stranded Indians and Nepalese seeking treatment in India. Over 2000 people have been
sheltered at three camps at Raxual, Bairgahia and Jainagar.

Uttrakhand Govt : 25 buses carrying relief items have been sent to Nepal. They have brought back

stranded people.

Haryana Govt: One Langar with 20 MT ration sent on 30 Apr 15.

Punjab Govt : One Langar with 23 MT of ration sent by air today.

Gujarat Govt : 24 MT of MRE, 1200 blankets and 100 tents have been sent to Nepal on 30 April 15.

Medical Assistance

A 31 member team comprising Orthopedic Surgeons, Anesthetists, Nurses and OT Technicians are in

Kathmandu since 26 April 2015.

Senior Specialists have interacted with Govt of Nepal and conducted a rapid need assessment to

channelize healthy assistance.

Teams from Karnataka, Bihar, Gujarat and Delhi are also in Nepal.

15 MT of medical supplies, stretchers, oxygen concentrators and body bags have been sent.

Dept of Telecommunications

Facilitating calls to people in affected area BSNL, MTNL, Reliance, Tata and others operators
have reduced call charges to Nepal.

Communication Facilities in NDMA Control Room 12 additional telephone lines are functional
on Hotline 011-1078 at NDMA Control Room.

Locating Missing Personnel - Total request received are 203. Out of them, 34 have been traced to
their last location and 18 are confirmed safe. Efforts are on to trace the balance.

Civil Aviation

Air India has carried 10975 kg of relief material to Nepal till date while Indigo has carried 10000 kg.

Ministry of Power

A team of 20 persons have been deployed to restore electricity system in Nepal.

A large quantity of transformers, insulators, cables and other items have been sent to Nepal.

Update

MHA alongwith NDMA are at the forefront of coordinating all relief supply. NDMA is the single

point contact and has been instrumental in making sure that supplies are prioritized and dispatched to
Nepal. Senior officials have been located both at Palam and Kathmandu Airports to oversee the operations.

NDRF, IAF and the Inter-Ministerial Team of Indian Officers stationed in Kathmandu and Indian

Embassy there are doing rescue operations in close tandem with Nepalese authorities.

Foreign Secy and NSA alongwith Principal Secy to PM are on an Official tour to Nepal.
