Kappa Sigma fundraises through spelling bee

Geoff Wilson

Kappa Sigma fraternity will be having their second spelling bee fundraiser. Like last semesters
competition, this spelling bee will not have regular words available. The contestants will be
spelling words from the Urban Dictionary. The Urban Dictionary can be found online and
consists of made-up slang words that have been created by society over the years.
No words are off limits. Good or bad if the word is in the Urban Dictionary there is a possibility
that we use it, said Austin Ladd, Noble sophomore.
Hailey Pace Thomas, Muskogee junior, outlasted 15 other contestants to win last years spelling
bee. She went home with a Yeti ice chest and bragging rights. This years contestants have a
chance to win a 40 inch flat screen Vizio television.
I had so much fun last time, I am definitely signing up again so I can win a television this time,
said Thomas.
All money fundraised will be going to the chapter funds on campus. A percentage will be used to
help brothers travel to Las Vegas this summer for Kappa Sigmas National Conclave.
Kappa Sigma likes to create fun events on campus; last semester was very successful so we are
expecting a bigger turnout this time around, said Taylor Johnson, Owasso junior.
The spelling bee will be at 7 p.m. on April 22 in the Red Bud Room of the UC. There is a $20
entry fee for contestants and $3 for spectators.
