The following is a summary of events completed in the second half of 2009 and plans for the first half of 2010

GENERAL MEETING, Nov 4th, 2009

APIP members won the following scholarship awards, worth around $12,000.00, for a total of around $24,000 for the year.

APIP SAN JACINTO COLLEGE TRAINING CONSORTIUM (ASJCTC)


The APIP and the Continuing and Professional Development Training Department of San Jacinto College will continue
the training consortium formed for previous grants. This will be referred to henceforth as the ASJCTC, and for
convenience as necessary, The Training Consortium. Guidance for obtaining funds and for administering training
programs will be determined with input from Training Consortium member companies, from an Advisory Council, and
from a Marketing and Communications Committee. Current APIP member companies will have advance notice and
priority for classes. Remaining unfilled classes will be open to all qualified companies.

NDT TRAINING CLASSES

• Community based job training (CBJT) grant funded NDT classes commenced in October at San Jacinto College.
Class dates, enrollment and registration information are posted on the APIP website. The training is free to
qualified individuals and companies.

• A Houston Galveston Area Community Grant (HGAC) funded training program will commence in March 2010.
APIP member companies will be notified, followed by detailed announcements and postings on the APIP website.

ASNT PRESIDENT’S VISIT, NACE TRAINING CENTER VISIT, September

• APIP hosted a visit with ASNT President Jocelyn Langlois and officers of the Greater Houston Area Section of the
ASNT at San Jacinto College. A tour of the NDT/Inspection/Welding training facilities and meetings with
department heads were arranged, followed by a visit to the new NACE Training Center in Houston, with NACE
Senior Director of Education, Mike Moss

API FALL REFINING AND STANDARDS MEETING, November

• An APIP report was provided to the Committee on Refinery Equipment and a summary was reported to other
relevant work groups.

• Pertinent details from the API meeting are being posted on the APIP website

PLANNED EVENTS, 2010

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING – February 10, 2010.


• Plans will be initiated for the Spring Golf Scholarship fund raising tournament and for the spring General Meeting
• APIP members are encouraged to submit proposed topics for the presentation session of the General Meeting

RECRUITING, TRAINING, CAREER DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVES

Form an Advisory Council with representatives invited from the local ASNT, AWS, ASME, ASM, NACE, ACI, and IMA
associations. Objectives include credentialing guidance for training and certification, career development templates and
recruitment and screening guidelines
Establish a Marketing and Communications Committee with representatives from local Associations and Businesses.
• Develop forecasts of inspection/NDT workforce needs, identify in-demand vocational and career training
• Assist with job (vocational) training fund grant requests
• Identify qualified instructors and secure latest technology equipment and test samples for hands-on training
• Leverage development of internet distance recruiting and learning
• Sponsor joint meetings and workshops with related Associations, community colleges
