There is currently a bill in the New York State Legislature to test and regulate dangerous chemicals
called the Child Safe Products Act. Let me give you more information about it and get your reaction:
Over the past forty-years, tens of thousands of chemicals have been introduced into the market place
and are used in the production of household goods. Only two hundred of these chemicals were
required to be tested under federal law. Even asbestos - a known carcinogen - isn’t covered under
the federal law. Many common toys and products used by children every day contain these toxic
chemicals, including lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury. Exposure to these toxic chemicals can put
children at risk for long-term health concerns such as cancer, behavior problems and learning
disabilities. If passed, the Child Safe Products Act will require the State of New York to identify
dangerous chemicals, make public what products contain them, and eventually ban their use.
Q4

After hearing this information, do you support or oppose legislation being debated in the

children's toys and products?
