the Friends existing funds. Details are available from Mrs
Egan, the Friends treasurer. We are extremely grateful to
the Friends for this valuable resource, which will add a
tremendous extra dimension to our IT teaching. Miss
Walsh in particular is delighted, as are we all.
There has been a delay in the installation, because of the
layout of the IT room. Hopefully this will be resolved and
the new screen installed Before too long.
Todays assembly was a Harvest Festival thanksgiving
service. In front of a splendid array of harvest gifts of food,
the wheatsheaf pattern of Mrs Egans harvest loaf taking
centre stage, each class gave a presentation on a Harvest
theme. It was great to see many parents at the assembly
thank you for your support.
Year 3s reflections on what harvest meant to each of them
were followed by Year 6s rousing song about the lunch
queue. At that point the stage became a field of sunflowers
aka Year 1 who told us about how they had grown from
seeds to tall flowers. Year 4s row of peas poem played on
the names of different vegetables and Year 2 delivered a
fine song of thanksgiving.
Reception successfully negotiated their way through Dingle
Dangle Scarecrow and Year 5s song about five a day was
an inspiring guide to the joys of healthy eating.
The food was passed to Major Carton from the Salvation
Army. He talked about the work of looking after underprivileged people in the area, theres no doubt that the food
collected by us all at Bronte today will be very helpful in that
important work. He ended the assembly with a prayer.

Twelve parents have been in touch to declare themselves

volunteers for the Friends, and their willingness to do
this is greatly appreciated. At Mondays meeting the
Friends Committee for 2014-15 was established. This
comprises myself in the chair, with Mrs Gordon and Mrs
Prescott as representatives for school liaison. As
mentioned above, Mrs Egan continues as Treasurer. I am
very grateful to Mrs Dio (mother of Taran, Year 4), who is
continuing as Secretary , and to Mrs. Maynard (mother of
Ben, Year 4), who is continuing on the committee. Many
thanks indeed to Mrs Borthwick (mother of Olivia, Year
1)and Mrs Munt (mother of Isabella, Year 1) who have
just joined the committee, Mrs. Borthwick as vice-chair.
The Parents Council yesterday, Thursday 9th, was a very
valuable meeting. We did spend quite a bit of time on
term dates the feedback was extremely helpful and I
will in the next fortnight or so, produce a new proposal
which will be circulated for any final comments.
Many other useful topics were raised, so many in fact
that we are going to meet again shortly so that we can
do justice to them all. The need for a second meeting will
not I imagine be a regular occurrence this time we all
felt it was important to devote time to the dates issue.
Once the top-up meeting has taken place, we will feed
back to individuals and also some general points which
are likely to be of wider interest.
Very much thinking of our Year 6 11+ candidates whose
results come out next Wednesday.

Two meetings this week at which I was most grateful for

parental support and involvement were the Bronte Friends
AGM on Monday, and the Parents Council last night,
Thursday 9th.

Week 7
Tues 14th October

This week has seen two meetings where parental support

has been the central part. The Bronte Friends AGM took
place on Monday. There was a very useful discussion about
future events, as well as a look at the finances and how the
committee operates.

Wed 15th October

One very important matter we discussed was the Friends

very generous acquisition of whiteboard and projector for
the IT Room. Last years Summer Fayre raised
virtually all the funds for this, with a small top-up from
