Highlights of the Fleischmanns First Monthly Meeting-

Meeting was called to order by President Yvonne Reuter

Financial Report-Winifred Zubin reported that the finan- cial status was positive. New revenue from Memorial Day Street Fair is coming in strong.

Memorial Day Street Fair- Yvonne stated, in order to minimize expenses, entertainment has been modified and will include Country Express and Top Dog DJ. Ads will appear in CMN, The Almanac, Daily Freeman, Dai- ly Star and Watershed Post. Over 40 vendors are ex- pected!

Membership Committee-Marilyn Ringel and Anita Ru- bin have been instrumental in getting new members and lapsed members to renew.

Fleischmanns Pool was not funded by the Village. As previously reported, an excavation of the relay lines is forthcoming and will hopefully locate the leak so that repairs can be made and the pool opened this summer.

Pumpkin Patch will move to a plot adjacent to the Fleischmanns Community Garden this spring/summer. DEP has given its permission to expand the use of the property.

Route 28 Scenic By-Way has been approved and mar- keting resources will be available to each Village for event promotion.

Mark Project contract has been renewed by the Village and will continue to support the Village of Fleischmanns with Grant writing and Economic Development initia- tives.

Mayor Kearney has invited FF to participate in the Me- morial Day Parade.

The first Post Office in our area opened in Clovesville in 1824. By 1851, Grifffin's Corners had its own Post Office, with Matthew Griffin as Postmas- ter. In 1888, a separate Fleischmanns Post Office opened at the Depot, to handle the business from the Fleischmann Family Estate and nearby. These two offices combined in 1915. There was a Post Office in Bedell from 1903 to 1961, and one in Halcott from 1862 until the early 1990's. For many years, postal work provided one of the few steady year-round sources of work. The last Postmaster of Fleischmanns to LIVE here was Jim Fuller, whom many will remember. A number of postal clerks and carriers still call Fleischmanns home. The card depicts the Post Office, next to the Movie Theatre, where it conducted business from 1978 until the late 1990's when it moved to its present location.
