Special Subject Proposal

The life and work of Claude Debussy

For my special subject, i will invesIgate the life and work of french
composer Claude Debussy. I was rst introduced to Debussy while studying a
level music, hearing as well and seeing on the score, the passion he had for
such a beauIful subject.
While carrying out this task, i would like to nd out some things in
parIcular. i want to nd out how or why Debussy fell into music and why he
became a composer. Who had inuenced him and who he inuenced. If he
composed music for specic reasons and if there was anything in his life that
led him to compose specic pieces of music. What impact his work had on 20th
century music. His most famous pieces of music and his legacy.
The sources i will use to carry out this task will include the internet which
will include general web searches and potenIal video clips from youtube,
books, documentaries, Library, obtaining informaIon from my singing teacher
and music theory teacher and if they recommend any specic things for me go
to and look at/for or people to contact. I will also evaluate these sources in
terms of validity and reliability.

i will present my ndings via a dedicated Tumblr page which will include all
my research in which ever form it is such as video clips, websites, book
references, potenIal emails and recordings. i will also create a typed document
in the form of a report which will look at Debussys life and work and hopefully
answer my quesIons.
The deadline for this task is Monday 29th of June 2015, leaving me with
from the start of term, 20 college days to complete this invesIgaIon. For the
rst week and second week, i will gather informaIon from an array of sources
suggested above. I esImate that once i have gathered enough reliable
informaIon it will be towards the end of the second week or the beginning of
the third which is here i will start to type up my nding appropriately. i judge
this will take me into the fourth week where i aim to have my rst draV
completed with 3 or 4 days before the due date where i have the opportunity
to nd other sources of informaIon and go back and edit my rst draV unIl i
am happy with my work and add my report to the dedicated Tumblr page
where all my sources of informaIon will be.
