The Centrality of Worship

by Rev. Dr. Jerry W. Black
Worship is the most important thing we do. It is our tribute
to God—our response to God’s love and grace—the SERVICE
affirmation that God is indeed worthy of our adulation and
praise. Like the deer for water, our worship is that deep
longing for God (Psalm 42:1). When real, genuine, and from February 17
the heart, it is life changing. It is that unique encounter with 6:30pm
God which makes us different.
Such intimacy and transformation must be our experience
in worship, for we continue to be a different kind of church. We are not narcissistic Join us as we mark the beginning
and self serving. Oh, for sure, we have our share of that. But, we continue with a of the season of Lent. Our
bulldog kind of tenacity—in our lives and in our community—to reach beyond “us” and friends from Holy Temple Baptist

Week of Compassion, over $1400 to Breakfast on the Boulevard through the Souper
Bowl of Caring, and over $2500 for youth missions. That doesn’t even begin to count
individual contributions by members of this church family to various charities and Bone
helping agencies. Nor does it include what has been designated this month for
missions. That’s compassion. That’s evangelism. And that’s worship.
