Flash lamps produce a relatively long pulse (milliseconds) which can cause significant substrate heating. CO2 lasers generate continuous light, but their farinfrared wavelength precludes their use with optical fiber delivery systems. TEA lasers have pulse widths in the 100 nsec range and would be appropriate for coating removal.
