1. Basic Life Support (BLS) class - American Heart Association
2. Procedural Skills Workshop

Prior to beginning Year III, all KSOM medical students are required to attend a Basic Life
Support class and a Procedural Skills Workshop. You have been assigned a date to attend a
BLS class and a date to attend a Procedural Skills Workshop.
This year, BLS classes have been scheduled on May 16, and on May 27 through May 30. The Center
for Life Support Training and Research provides training free of charge for the Keck School of
Medicine and is located at LAC+USC Medical Center, Department of Emergency Medicine, 1200
North State Street, GH 1350. Due to the large number of BLS trainings provided by the Center, it is
only possible to accommodate KSOM students during this time frame. While everyone has been
assigned a date to attend the BLS class on campus, we understand that some of you may prefer not to
take the class at this time. If this is the case, you MUST take a BLS class in a classroom setting
(NOT ONLINE) at your own expense - - BLS for Healthcare Providers Class C. All students must
take BLS in order to be certified in time for their clerkship responsibilities. Please inform us if you
are not planning to attend the BLS class on campus. Students who attend the BLS class on campus
will receive their BLS cards at the Year III Orientation on Thursday, June 26. ALL other students
must turn in a copy of their BLS card (front and back) to Monique Abeyta in the Office of Student
Affairs (KAM 100-B) BEFORE Thursday, June 26 in order to begin Year III.
The BLS Healthcare Provider Text is available for purchase from the bookstore or online. Please
note this is a review book and it is non-returnable. Although students may share the textbook, on the
day of your BLS class, each individual must have his/her own textbook. The material must be
read prior to your scheduled BLS date.
PRIOR TO TAKING THE CLASS, READ THE TEXT.
