Analysis input is very important role in the analysis result. Following steps to be note
down before inputting.
1. a). The design pressure and temperature from the line list. The design temperature is
usually 5 or 10 Deg more than from operating temperature.
b). The Design pressure is 1.1 the operating pressure.
2. Note down the plant north from the composite piping layout. And also co-ordinate
match with Caesar.
3. For all socket welding fitting and valves SIF shall be taken as per code.
4. Insulation density shall be correctly mentioned in the input file. Insulation thickness shall
be taken from insulation chart. (shown in below).
5. If system is qualified with gap, no need to required to co- efficient of friction.

7.0 Enter the operating pressure, temperature and insulation density into the in put file.

8.0 Analysis is done based on the either design parameter (pressure and temperature) or

Operating parameter (decided by the project manager or client)

9.0 The node numbers shall be in continuous order. (Usually with increment of 10)
10.0 Clearly indicate friction factors for bottom supports (restraints) and guide.

1. Sustained vertical displacement shall not exceed 1.5 mm in negative Y-direction.
2. There shall not be any positive vertical displacement in sustained condition. Also
horizontal displacements in sustained case shall be negligible (less than 1mm).
3. For pipes greater than or equal to 6 inch vertical stretch of piping exceeding 3m shall be
supported. For pipes less than 6-inch vertical stretch greater than 2m shall be suitably
supported. Very important for pump suction/discharge lines.
4. The loads on all the hangers shall be uniformly distributed.
5. Very long vertical stretch of piping shall have atleast one vertical restraint.
6. a). Heater drains shall have restraints close to control valve to prevent vibration. If
restraints are not possible, bottom supports shall be used.
b) Restraints/bottom supports shall be providing close to either side of the loop.
7. For safety valve vent lines, piping shall be designed to absorb reaction force of valve.
Vent pipe shall have rigid restraint, as its first support.
8. In general, vibration shall be avoided by use of restraints in highly flexible lines.
9. Initial displacements shall be given at equipment terminal points. Care shall be taken to
correlate the co-ordinate axis of equipment with that of analysis.
10. Insulation density shall be correctly taken considering the total weight given for various

(deg. C)

Insulation density

Less than 400

More than 400

11. Rigid weight shall be correctly taken. Weight of strainers and other similar equipment
shall be calculated and taken so as to match the flooded weight.
12. Actual forces and moments shall be checked with allowable. If actual values exceed the
allowable values, effort shall be made to reduce the actual values to less than the
allowable values. If it exceeds the same shall not be more than 10%. Summary of actual
values shall be made and sent to the respective equipment supplier for their approval.
Care shall be taken while furnishing the actual values to be equipments supplier with
regard to co-ordinate system.
13. The variation in spring force shall be restricted within 20%. Also the range of hot load
and cold load shall be within 80% of max / min load in hanger table. Apart from this a
margin of 15mm shall be made available for spring displacements both in cold/hot
conditions. Note shall be made for those hangers that do not meet this 15mm criterion.

14. Lines having design temperatures greater than 300 deg C and connected to turbine shall
be checked for relaxation cases also.
15. Equipment nozzles shall be freed for sustained loads by using the nearest spring.
16. Hanger assembly number shall be correctly indicated.
17. Liberal stresses shall not be used.

a.0 Tools menu Configure/Set up

b.0 Environment Special Execution parameters

1.0 Headroom for hangers shall be checked.
2.0 Support feasibility shall be checked considering interference of supports with
adjacent pipes & supports, ventilation ducts, LP piping, cable trays. walk way
3.0 Swing of hangers shall be checked and restricted within 4 deg. If necessary hanger or
supporting beams shall be preset to reduce the swing or increase the height to keep the
swing minimum.( For calculation refer excel sheet)
4.0 Support location is fixed based on steel configuration drawing. .

First preference shall be to take support from the existing beam/ member. Other
wise build up the auxiliary simply supports beam.

Second option is to provide auxiliary beams for supports. In some cases, cantilever
arrangement is provided in consultation with civil department.

5.0 shear lug shall be

150NB and Below

2 shear lug

200NB and above

4 shear lug

And also clearly indicated in the isometrics with working point elevation.

1.0 Calculate the hydrostatic test pressure
a. The pipe hydrostatic test pressure is 1.5 times the design Pressure.
b. In some cases hydrostatic test pressure is equal to the equipment hydro test pressure.
PHT=Max [PA, PPED] (MPa)
PPED=Max [1.25 Pd (Sc/Sh), 1.43Pd] (MPa) as per code - (PED 97/23/CE)
PA= 1.5x Pd ---------------------------- as per ASME B31.1
PHT : Hydrostatic test pressure [MPa]
Pd: Design pressure [MPa]
Sc: Allowable stress at room temperature [N/mm2]
Sh: Allowable stress at design temperature [N/mm2]
2.0 All system hydro load case to be done based on the ambient temperature and hydro

removing the initial displacement and making into free points.
