in the Los Angeles Times (featuring Jean McCart)as well as WJ;.SPlegislative attempts in generalwere rel?ted in various community newspapers; atleast 6-8 radio and TVappearances, with somest.rong eciitcrifils supporting us••one from William}randolph Hear:>t, Jr. (Herald Examiner, Sept. 18th)and another, the following week. The NationalObserVer ran an editorial; vITNGSOVERTHFROCKIES,a supplemer.t to Elnpire Magazine, Denver, featured Betty Jo Reed and the WASPstory in their issuecovering all aviation ••a handsome tribute to fly-ing, publi shed July

1977. The Houston Post de-voted nearly half a page in July; Shreveport Jour-nal (JUNe;26) gave front page caption and over half the front page, second section; The TimesPicayne, NewOrleans (JUNE25) along with articlesin the Baton Rougepaper, The Modesto Bee (CentralCalif.) half a page plus another fourth of page(June 15) with a follow-up of a big Editorialstory a few weeks later as well as a Letter to theEditor by the Pres. of Stanislaus State Collegeurging the WASPbe given their rights. I'm certainthat practically every major metropolitan area hasgiven space to our continuing struggle for recog-nition •••• most of the WASPshave sent their loc-ally generated news directly to National and there-fore I can't report city-for-city coverage.WASPshave been speakers at various military oaviation functions, providing direct communicationtc the most interested audiences. I urge! more othis, whenever the opportunity arises. Your pub-licity chairman was invited as the feature speakeat the June meeting of the Order of Daedalions,Mather Air Force Base, Sacramento, Calif. In add-ition to a handsome plaque, which nowhangs on myden wall, they extended an invitation to all WASPsto join this prestigious organization, which dates back to World WarI; truly pioneers, they fostenational programs in support of aviation safety.1heir invitation is f1attering recognition of ouworth to military aviation.During the American Legion National Convention inDenver, August 19 - 25, when welobbied to gettheir support for our pending legislation
l
theWASPreceived considerable radio and TVexposure••. thanks to Betty Jo Reed's efforts. TVinter-views August 18, 19, and 22; with radio on the21st, which was later repeated.Dorothy Davis, San Francisco, has been workinghard at it and reports good coverage in the Sun-day Examiner
 &
Chronicle (August 28)••• she mingled with young people waiting in line to see "StaWarsll••got them to sign her petition (she was inWASPuniform) an ingenious act, Dottie ••• it paioff. She is also doing public spealdng and inter-views on radio and TV.OnAugust 28th, The Press Democrat, Santa Rosa,Calif., ran an in-depth feature of Florence Ernig(Mrs. Marshall Wheeler) along with full coverageof WASPhistory and current efforts. The public is aware••• we have indeed had a respon-sive attitude from the news media as a result of theefforts of hundreds of energetic, willing WASPsmaking contact at the local level and through their social and professional organizations. Whenthefinal outcome of our Congressional hearings anthe Military Affairs COJID'Ilitteereports becomemown, there will be an opportunity for good pub-licity follow-up. WEMUSTDOITlllHISTORIAN'SREPORT- Nov., 1977This year has been an active year for all de- partments of the WASPorganization.
