What's New in

Version 9.0

The following is a listing of the major additions, changes and enhancements which have been
made in the upgrade from Phase2 (version 8) to RS2 (version 9).
Coupled fluid-solid analysis (consolidation)

Biot theory (Consolidation of linear or non-linear materials)

Drained, undrained, fully drained conditions
Transient groundwater

Dynamic analysis

Dynamic Analysis option in Project Settings

Time-dependent loading function
Earthquake loading function
Dynamic boundary conditions
Dynamic query points

New constitutive models

Anisotropic rock mass - model ubiquitous joints with the Jointed Material option
Mohr-coulomb with cap
Softening/hardening models
User-defined constitutive model
Non-linear isotropic elastic model

Transient Groundwater

Transient groundwater analysis

Use in conjunction with consolidation analysis or as a standalone time-dependent
seepage analysis

Probabilistic Analysis

Monte Carlo or Latin Hypercube probabilistic analysis

Statistical distributions - Normal, Uniform, Lognormal, Triangular, Beta, Exponential,
Gamma
Input distributions are sampled and analysis is re-computed for the specified number
of samples

New support capacity curves

Four new support capacity envelope options for reinforced concrete liners. In addition
to the Carranza-Torres & Diederichs method, can now plot strength envelopes
according to CSA A23.3, ACI 318-11, Eurocode2 EN 1992-1 or Unfactored.

Tunnel wizard

Tunnel Wizard dialog - quickly create tunnel boundaries based on common pre-defined
shapes with user-defined parameters

Joints

Material dependent joint strength

Impermeable joint for modeling no flow boundary for seepage analysis
Axisymmetric joints can now be modeled (joint boundaries or interfaces associated
with composite liners or structural interfaces)

DXF Import

Improved DXF Import dialog with geometry preview

Easily select different layers and convert to Phase2 boundary types
Auto shift coordinates closer to origin for very large mining coordinates

Loading

Stress transform calculator (transform 3D principal stress field into plane strain stress
field aligned with excavation axis)

Meshing

completely new and improved quad mesh generator

Interpret

display yielded joints for jointed materials

node reaction query to display X and Y reaction forces at restrained nodes
Graph Query Scatter Plot - plot any two output variables (e.g. Sigma 1 versus Sigma
3) on the same plot for material queries

Interface improvements

More intuitive model creation and analysis flow

Workflow tabs, dynamic toolbar, large toolbar buttons
User-defined keyboard shortcuts (File > Keyboard Shortcuts)
Improved Material Properties dialog, different parameter types organized by tabs

Miscellaneous

Normal restraint option (zero displacement in the direction normal to the boundary)
Auto restrain external boundary shortcut options for surface or underground
excavation models
Accelerate initial stiffness (Project Settings > Stress Analysis)
Adaptive Load Steps (Project Settings > Stress Analysis)
Coupled SSR analysis (Project Settings > Strength Reduction)
Edit Displacement (edit values of existing displacement boundary conditions)
