Re-collecting the Past | Re-presenting the Future

Envisioned in the 1950s by Filipino abstract painter

Fernando Zobel, the Ayala Museum was established in
1967 under the auspices of the Ayala Foundation, Inc. It
began as a museum of Philippine history and
iconography, and transformed itself into a museum of
both fine arts and history as the 20th century drew to a
close. Sixty handcrafted dioramas form the core of the
museums historical collections and chronicle the rich
tapestry of Philippine history. Ayala Museum also has a
one-of-a-kind boat gallery showcasing miniatures of the
different watercrafts that plied the Philippine seas and
contributed to the development Philippine maritime
trade and the colonial economy. The historical collection
is complemented by archaeological and ethnographic
artifacts from the Philippines northern and southern
cultural communities, spanning prehistory to the present.

The fine arts collection features important works by three

painters considered as pioneers of Philippine art- Juan
Luna (1857-1899), Fernando Amorsolo (1882-1972), and
Fernando Zobel (1924-1984). The museum also has a
collection of genre painting from 19th century Philippines,
when liberal ideas from Europe landed on our shores,
giving rise to secular themes in art and popularizing neaw
modes of expression.
Ayala Museum regularly holds international conferences
and intimate gallery talks by local and foreign museum
curators, conservators, and scholars, focusing on specific
aspects of the collections and special exhibitions. It also
offers a variety of programs for children and adults
including storytelling and storybook publication art
workshops and gallery discussion that are based on their
special exhibitions or the permanent collections


The Diorama Experience exhibition has been synonymous

with the Ayala Museum for the past thirty-five years. The
sixty dioramas are designed to be a comprehensive visual
approach to Philippine history. But more than that, they
present the narrative of the story of the Philippine people in
a way that compresses extensive research on the events,
architecture, costumes, technologies and topographies of
the times they represent

History is thus made more meaningful with the sense of

immediacy the presentation provides; the sense of being
there as it happens. The Ayala Museums collection of
finely crafted ship models is a tribute to the boats of yore
that were used for everything from warfare to transport and
dwelling. This selection includes the local skiffs as well as
foreign ships that dropped anchor at Philippine shores.
These boats were handcrafted out of baticulin, laniti, and
apitong wood and adorned with cloth, string, buntal fiber,
bamboo and bronze.

Crossroads of Civilizations

Millennium of Contact exhibition consists of Chinese and
Southeast Asian ceramics found in the Philippines and tells
the story of how the country forged social and commercial
ties with China and its neighbors. The dis- play of more than
500 ceramics provides one of the most comprehensive
surveys of Chinese and Southeast Asian trade wares found in
the Philippines, spanning a thousand years.

The Gold of Ancestors exhibit celebrates the sophisticated

cultures that existed in the Philippines before colonization in
the 16th century. Many of the precious objects were
recovered in association with tenth to thirteenth century
Chinese export ceramics. Similarities in form and iconog-
raphy with artifacts of other Southeast Asian cultures affirm
regional affinities and inter-island contacts that flourished in
these archipelagic crossroads of civilizations

Ocular inspections can be scheduled prior to the museum visit. Kindly send a request letter to Ms. Joy

complimentary ticket.

Regular Tours
A thirty percent (30%) down payment should be settled at least 1 week before the tour of 100 pax or more, for
guided tours and for groups that require parking. Three buses are allowed to park for free at the Dela Rosa side of
the Museum.
Special Tours
Thirty percent (30%) down payment of the total should be settled at least 2 weeks before the tour, for the
following special tours:
For groups touring the museum 1 hour before/after regular museum hours there is a minimum of 350
Special tour on a Monday must include the Building fee of 6,000+vat per hour (per floor) on top of the
museum admission fee or 15,000+ vat for all floors.

Cancellation and Late arrival
For cancelled tours, notification must be done 3 days before the reserved date for full cash refund. Refunds are
only through issuance of prepaid admission tickets that are valid for one year. Failure to notify museum staff 3
days before the tour will result in the forfeit of any deposit made.
For groups that arrive 30 minutes late, the group will be accomodated provided that there is no other group
waiting and m ay be assisted once there are tour guides available or the galleries can accommodate.
Reservation in less than 3 days is automatically non-refundable. Reschedule is only upon availability of slot


To ensure the quality and order of the museum tour, the groups guides must also assist the museums in-house
tour guides with facilitating the group tours. The following policies must be followed:

The Tour Group will take full responsibility for the loss or damage caused by him, his guests to the Museum
equipment, adjoining facilities, building common venues, or building exterior or grounds that may occur during
the time of their tour. An immediate payment of P5,000.00 to cover initial costs of repair will be charged by the
museum to the school or the tour operator. If the total cost of damage is worth more, Ayala Museum shall
prepare a billing statement which will be given 2-3 days after the tour indicating details of loss or damage
incurred during the tour period, if any. Payable within 7 days.
Groups can book a field trip with a maximum of 400 pax in one batch. Should the group have more pax,
arrangements must be made for the tour to be done in several batches with a gap of at least 2 hours in between.
If the museum staff are not notified at least two days in advance of any increase in the number of expected
guests, the museum reserves the right to allow their guests in at a staggered pace. Kindly note as well, in the
event the group arrives 30 minutes later than scheduled, the museum reserves the right to prioritize other



Pay parking is available at Greenbelt 4 Parking. Street-level entrances are at
Makati Avenue corner De la Rosa Street. Parking Fee is around 45php first 3
hours and 10php/hour

Free parking for 3 buses at the Dela Rosa side of the museum, provided that
30% deposit is paid 1 week before to confirm the slot and process the permit.

From the Ayala station of the Metro Rail Transit, it is a 10-minute walk
through restaurants and retail shops towards Greenbelt Park to get to the
Ayala Museum.
