AFFIRMATIVE: Protagonist`s agreement on same sex marriage is anchored on the right to equal
protection, that is the rights of the gays and lesbians should not be discriminated as their rights to
life and to enjoy life are recognized under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
NEGATIVE: Antagonists posits their view that same sex marriage should not be allowed
because marriage is defined in common law countries as a contract between a man and a woman
in accordance with laws for the establishment of conjugal and family life.

I am not in favor of same sex marriage because marriage as defined in common and civil
law countries like the Philippines as a special contract between a man and a woman for the
purpose of establishment of a conjugal and family life. From this definition, it is succinct that the
purpose of marriage is “procreation”. Procreation is defined as the biological process by which
new "offspring" individual organisms are produced from their "parents". Reproduction is a
fundamental feature of all known life; each individual organism exists as the result of
While it is true that procreation or reproduction nowadays is no longer limited to natural
reproduction thru sexual intercourse between a man and a woman as the advent of new
technologies made conception through artificial insemination possible, still the intendment of the
law promotes procreation thru sexual intercourse between the spouses composed of a male and a
female for the establishment of a family life. Unless otherwise the law is amended to remove
from its phraseology the clause “between a man and a woman”; then same sex marriage is
legally unacceptable.
I am a Filipina and a devout Catholic who strongly adhere to the teachings of the Bible.
With all due respect and without offense meant to other religions, I personally believe that same
sex marriage is against morality. Christian faith is directed towards the idea that it is highly
detestable, reprehensible, immoral and unacceptable. And this is not without biblical basis. In
Genesis 1:27 (NKJV) “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created
him; male and female He created them.” Jesus said in Matthew 19:4 (NKJV), “Have you not
read that He who made them at the beginning “made them male and female”. Then Jesus
continued in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NKJV): “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not
inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters,
nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor
revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God”.
The image of God is both male and female and is reflected in a godly union between
male and female where the creative power of God, His life-giving, His self-giving and His moral
nature are perfectly expressed. This is only possible in a heterosexual union.
When God created a partner for Adam He created Eve—not another Adam. This means
that perfect partnership requires some level of difference as well as a level of similarity so great
that Adam could cry out loudly, ”This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh”. Sexual
intimacy between a man and a woman is the normal method of male/female bonding
(emotionally and physically) because it corresponds to the design of our bodies and because it is
the normal means by which offspring are created.
If God had intended the human race to be fulfilled through both heterosexual and
homosexual marriage, He would have designed our bodies to allow reproduction through both
means and made both means of sexual intercourse healthy and natural. Homosexual anal
intercourse carries a high risk of disease, this is recognized in Scripture where gay men are said
to receive in their bodies the due penalty for their error (Romans 1:27).

Stated otherwise. It does not necessarily follow that what is legal is moral. the people should be consulted thru full public consultation and in a plesbiscite called for the purpose. While it is true that the rights of the gay and lesbians for equal protection of the law and right to enjoy life should be respected as it is a universally recognized right. between the law of God and the law of men. though I am not in favor of same sex marriage. what is at issue here is not only purely legal questions but also moral propriety. it is not an utter discrimination so to speak to uphold the sanctity of marriage by ordaining it exclusively between a man and a woman as what the above biblical passages do suggest. which should prevail. The voice of the people is the voice of God and should be the supreme law. ========================end of discussion====================== . He has already in mind to make humans a pair of male and female and not a pair of male and another male or a female with another female. It is my personal conviction that when God created mankind. Let the people speak for what is in their mind and in their heart. which one to uphold? Finally. It may be legal to have same sex marriage in New Zealand on the premise that the same will be upheld by the majority after compliance with the rigid requirements of law and legal procedure. vox dei”. “Vox populi. The bottom line here is in case of conflict between legality and morality. In essence.
