Chapter 1 - Ignorant
Sora stared at the great stone statue in front of her. It was a male, unclothed,
with outstretched arms. Rumors say that youre not supposed to take a picture in
front of the Oblation statue until youve graduated, or else you wont graduate on
time, or worse, kicked out of the university.

Sora sighed. Here she was, at the most prestigious and coveted university in
the country, and yet something doesnt feel right. One, she didnt like the course
that she passed for. Second, she didnt have any friends from high school whod be
attending this university. Third, shed be living like a nun for the rest of her stay in
this college since her parents admitted her to a strict dormitory managed by nuns.
And fourth....well, she doesnt have a boyfriend to keep her happy during her
upcoming days of cramming and whatever.
With slow, steady steps, Sora walked away from the statue. She needed to
keep her head straight. Whats important right now is to find where her classes are
going to be held.
Of all things, this is whats annoying Sora the most about this university. You
change classrooms and buildings for each class you have. Its a pain to have to run
especially if the preceding teacher decides to go on overtime and then you have to
run to the next building to reach your next class so you wont get late.
At high school, Sora thought that college would be more fun. Now it seems
like its just pure horror.
Sora looked at the map she had and made a right turn on the next
intersection. It said there that the so-called CPCLH lecture hall would be at the very
first door at the very first building at the right. She walked towards the first building
she saw, feeling anxious. There must be a sign on the doors saying what room it is...
She stopped and stared at a large wooden set of double doors at the right
side. Could this be it? She looked above the door to check for some sign, but there
was none.
By now, Sora was bubbling in panic. What if she never finds the right
classroom and gets late for her class?
She turned around nervously. Maybe theres someone around here who
knows what this room is. Sora was in luck. Just in front of her, there was a guy
seated on the ground. The guy looked about five or six years older than she and he
had a somber look on his face.
Sora hesitated in asking him. It seems like hes in a bad mood. But then, who
else can she ask? She turned around again, and found no one else in the corridor
besides her and the guy.
Sora breathed in. Courage. All she needs is a little courage.
Uhmm, excuse me sir? Sora said, bringing up a cheery smiles
The guy looked at her darkly. Sora gulped, If you dont mind, can you please
tell me if that door there is the CPCLH lecture hall?

The guy looked at her for a moment before standing up, NF arent you?
Sora furrowed her brows, NF? she repeated.
The guy brought a jumble of keys from his pocket and started swirling the
keychain on his pinky finger, New Freshman, the guy said with a sudden smirk.
Sora became red. It was so embarrassing to look so ignorant in front of other
people, Uh, yeah.
Yeah, that one is the CPCLH lecture hall, the guy replied and smiled
unsurely.
Ah, I see... Sora stuttered. Well, uh, thanks!
Without another word, Sora ducked her head low and hurried away. It would
embarrassing to meet that guy again. She hoped to never encounter him again.

Chapter 2 -Indifferent
Second class, 10:30 a.m., Wednesdays, CPCLH Lecture Hall, English 1,
Section C-4R.
Sora started becoming nervous again. Here it is. The room she had never
dared come across for days since her encounter with that guy. But now, she cant
avoid it. Her class is in this lecture hall. Sora took a deep breath and pushed the
door. It was heavy, but then she thought, maybe she really was just underweight.
Then, as if by some supernatural force, the door suddenly became lighter to
push. Sora was beaming but then as she looked behind her, her happiness
evaporated. It was the guy.
Sora stared at her, but the guy just looked ahead. Uhh.. Sora began.
The guy didnt turn to look at her. Sora stepped aside and let the guy walk of
towards the front of the lecture hall.
Did he just ignore her or did he not recognize her?
Sora was puzzled. But a part of her felt relieved that he didnt smirk at her for
being an ignorant freshman.
Sora heaved her bag on her back and strode of to find a good spot in the
lecture hall. As she found the right seat, she looked forward. In an instant, she
spotted the guy. He was seated in front of a wide computer and like the last time,
his face looked sober. Sora couldnt see what he was doing on the computer since

its back was turned to the class. Still, she can see how intent the guy was while
facing the screen.
Sora stared in wonder. What is he doing there? Is he a student? Dont tell me
hes a teacher!
Sora continued looking at the guy. She was waiting for anything to happen,
any hint to let her know who he is or what his job is around the lecture hall.
After a while, an old man entered the doors and shouted in loud and accented
English, Everybody settle down! Dont make me go ballistic!
Everybody turned around to look at him. He was wearing the type of clothes a
man would usually wear during a funeral. He even had that look on his face; a look
that suits him inside the casket.
Sora can hardly contain her laughter. She was being mean. But its just too
hard to resist! If she made any audible chuckle or snicker, this professor might just
really go ballistic. And it wont be pretty if shes the reason why the old man went
nuts.
As the professor got to the front of the lecture hall, the guy immediately
stood up from the computer screen and handed him a microphone. So, he paused,
is this how you all greet me on the first day of class? said the professor loudly, his
voice booming through the speakers.
Everyone inside hushed down. While other bowed down their heads as if in
shame, Sora kept her head up and looked at the guy again. He was fiddling on the
computer again. The only diference is, he was standing up right now.
Sora looked at her professor. She hoped the he would introduce the guy. But
the professor didnt make any other introduction, just about himself. On the mention
of house rules, Sora saw something flash in front of her.
For the first time she realized that there was a large LCD screen in front. It
illuminated the words, House Rules. She turned to look at the guy again and she
saw him raise a small, black square thing and pointed it up at a projector hovering
just above the old professor.
The guy clicked on something, and as Sora waited for something to change
on the LCD screen, she suddenly saw in the corner of her eye that the guy was
starting to walk away. He was headed back towards the doors.
Hes going out? Why?
Sora cant help but stare at the guy. Somehow she wants him to see her, but
in her brain, she knows itll get too embarrassing if he finds her looking at him.

The guy walked great steps towards the doors and didnt even take a look at
the class. Sora pouted a bit. I cant believe Im getting interested over a guy like
him.

Chapter 3 - Scatterbrained
Three months had already passed for the first semester. She learned no good
information about the guy except that hes the person who always tends to the
computers and wires and techie stuf inside the CPCLH. I guess by now, he can be
considered as some kind of technician.
The other teachers dont even acknowledge his presence. The professors just
hand them their USBs and say a few words. After that, the LCD screen pops up to
life and the guy always goes out of the lecture hall. He only comes back after the
class is dismissed.
Sora sighed. Right now she was in her dorm room pondering why was she so
bugged about the guy. She should just let it be. Its not like it would turn out good if
she ever talks to him again.
Gahh!!! Idiot! Idiot! Sora muttered as she pounded a pillow over her head.
Stop thinking about him! Stop it! Stop it!
Whoa there, relax dude, youre creeping me out.
Sora set her pillow aside and smiled at her roommate slash new bestfriend,
Krisel. Krisel is a foreign student from America and right now, shes studying on her
second degree, Veterinary Medicine. Compared to her, Soras course is nothing awestriking or great or significant. Soras course was Communication Arts. It was ironic
that she had ever written this course down on the application form of the university.
She was never good at communication, although for some times that shed be
pressured and urged to communicate, like in acting or declamation, then, shed
really put an outstanding efort on it.
Most of the time, Sora just likes to keep everything to herself. She wasnt
even the type to go around and befriend other people. Those other people would
likely take the first step in befriending her.
But then she guessed that the only good thing about the course is the writing
major that it has. Its not writing about news or specific, political stuf happening to
this and that. Its more of a fiction-kind of writing. Soras imagination was limitless
when it comes to her stories. She hopes to publish her writings one day, though she
very much doubts if it would appeal to the public.

Although this course suits her well enough, theres still something holding her
back. Wheres the future? Wheres the money? Wheres success?
These things always come up in Soras mind. She knew that none of those
really mattered if you love what you do. But you cant say that the future doesnt
matter. What shes going to learn and go through the rest of her college life will
determine where shed fit in society; and as a story writer, there wont be much
money to go around.
Sora shook her head.
Anything the matter? her roomie asked, her big bulky figure looming over
Sora. For a girl, Krisel really has guyish features.
Its about a guy. Sora said, biting her lip.
Krisel raised her eyebrows in interest, Like him?
Kinda. Sora said sheepishly.
Ever talked to him?
Sora let out a grunt and threw a pillow at the wall behind her bed, No. We
never talk. At all...
Whoa there Sora! Krisel said with a raise of a palm, If thats your problem,
then just go and talk to the guy for crying out loud.
I cant!!!!! Sora whimpered.
Why not? Theres nothing to lose man. Krisel said as she sat on a chair and
turned to face her laptop on the bedside table.
There is! There is! Sora shouted.
Krisel let out a laugh, You really do act like a kid sometimes dont you?
Sora sighed, Im still a kid you know.
Yup. Krisel agreed, Both mentally and physically.
Physically? Sora said with a sneer. Krisel just laughed and began surfing on
Facebook.
Sora made a sad face. A lot of people would treat her as a kid nowadays. Her
teacher in archery class would pat her head whenever shes seating down and ask if
theres a problem. Sora doesnt really get teachers sometimes. Theres also that girl
who lives just a few doors away from their room. Whenever Hana sees her, she
would just suddenly jump on her, hug her and pat her head too.

Sora doesnt know if its got something to do with her full bangs, making her
look childish. If it was the reason, she still didnt want to get rid of it. Its cute. Cute
but not childish in her own perspective.
Sora shook her head again. Theres a fifty point quiz on Speech
Communication tomorrow and she needed to study. There was a lot of stuf to
memorize. Sora hurriedly pulled out her bag from under the bed and rummaged
inside.
Suddenly, something heavy and fearful filled Sora. That notebook! It was
missing!!!
Sora quickly went into backtrack. Okay, so just this morning, she had
Guidance Instruction class, but most of her blockmates were absent so everybody
dispersed. Next was......English class!
That was it! At English class, there was a surprise quiz so Sora hurriedly took
her notebook out to review for a few seconds. Then, when the teacher said to keep
every material, except for a pen and paper, or else he or she will get thrown out of
the room, Sora had just thrown hers under her chair in a surge of panic.
Under the chair.......CPCLH............
Those things began lingering in her mind....
No!!!! I left my notebook at the CPCLH!!! Sora wailed loudly.
Krisel turned to look at her, Then get it tomorrow morning.
But tomorrow morning is our quiz for SpeechCom! I wouldnt have time to
study! Sora said. I cant believe I forgot it!
Sora grabbed a hold of her other pillow and began hitting her head with it
again, Im an idiot! I suck! Im worthless! Im stupid! she shouted with every
pound of the pillow.
Hey! Stop that! Krisel said.
Krisel stood up and let her chair scrape loudly on the wooden floor. Sora
stared at her as she grabbed a big black jacket from her closet. Come on dude,
lets get it. I dont want to hear your wails all throughout the night.
But! But! Sora protested, Its almost nine o clock in the evening! Our
curfews coming up soon!
Dude! Krisel said, Theres still ten minutes. Do you really want to waste
that time to just hit your head?
Sora frowned, But, why we?

Are you an idiot? Krisel muttered, Do you really think Id let you run of into
the night, at the middle of the campus to get your notebook? I bet its no news to
you that there are a lot of girls who already got raped in this campus.
Sora perked up, Are you, are you sure?
Well duh! Youre my roommate. Krisel said. Roommates do this for one
another.
Sora let out a smile, Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!
Come on, get your black jacket on.
Why?
Well be the spies of the night. Krisel replied, smirking.

Chapter 4 Tension
Sora felt exhilarated. She really felt like so spy from a movie clad in black and
ready to break inside a building. She let out a laugh, We are so going to get that
notebook! she said and raised a closed fist up the air.
Where did all that negativity go? Krisel said, mockingly.
Gone! Sora said excitedly, I have a feeling that were going to get it! Even
if it means breaking in!
Everything about encountering the guy from the CPCLH was out of Soras
mind. She just felt so happy to have a friend come along with her during the night
to get just one notebook.
I can feel it man! Were so close to getting it! Sora said loudly.
Krisel started jogging, Well, I guess we better hurry up then.
Sora nodded. Together the two of them took the shortest path to the building;
behind the second annex of the Arts and Sciences building. They passed through a
grove of trees and benches of circles, until they saw a couple of lights open ahead.
It must mean that there are still people over there. Sora said.
All the better. It also means that we wont have to break in. Krisel replied
staring up ahead.
With her heart racing, Sora hurried her pace and went in front of Krisel.
Almost there. Sora whispered.

When they finally reached the wooden doors, Sora took a deep breath. I
hope this things open.
Fortunately, the door was open and Sora quickly took a peek. What Sora
didnt expect was that there would be a class inside right now at this time of the
night. Sora immediately became nervous and panicky again. No way.......... Sora
said in a low whimper.
What? Krisel asked, What?!
Theres...theres.... Sora started, Theres a lecture going on right now..
WHAT? At this time? Krisel blurted.
Sora nodded. Now what? She cant just barge in.
Just barge in.
WHAT? Sora shouted.
Krisel rolled her eyes, Look man, your studies depend on that notebook. Its
either you fail or you get in, and find it.
I cant do that! Sora cried out, The teacher might get mad at me, and
theyre all going to stare at me!
Of all the things, Sora hated it when they stared at her.
Dude, dont expect me to come and help you this time. If Im the one who
goes in there, everyone, as in everyone, will stare at me.
Sora looked at Krisel. No doubt about what she said. Krisel was half-Black
American and half-Filipino. Her foreign appearance would surely steal the spotlight
from the professor. Every student would undoubtedly take notice of her.
And, and one more thing, Krisel added, I dont have a freaking idea where
you sat when you lost your notebook, so you really cant count on me to fetch it for
you.
Sora felt like dropping down on her knees, and curling into a ball, awaiting
doom. That sudden excitement and positivity had all evaporated.
Suddenly, someone opened the door and Sora turned to look. It wasnt the
CPCLH guy. It was a diferent guy. Instantly, Sora thought that this might be an
opportunity to do something about her situation. Bravely, Sora approached him and
asked in a steady voice, Excuse me sir, but do you know what time will this class
end?
The guy thought for a moment before answering, Around 9:30.

Soras panic increased. 9:30 is past the curfew hours by the dorm. Theres no
way Krisel and her can stay till that time.
Sora nodded to the guy and thanked him. As she turned around to face Krisel
and ramble on some more, she stopped and turned back again to the guy who was
walking away.
Uhm, excuse me again!
The guy stopped and turned, Hm?
Do you know where I can find the person who cleans or maybe manages the
CPCLH? I lost my notebook inside that lecture hall, and I want to know if somebody
whos in charge there might have found it and stored it somewhere.
The guy smiled, Uh, yeah. Im sure youre familiar with the guy who always
faces the computer inside there before lecture hours start right?
Sora nodded. Its THE guy. The guy that made Sora interested and at the
same time, evade.
Come on, Ill take you to him, the helpful guy said and started walking back
towards the wooden doors.
Hes inside?
The guy nodded. Sora turned to look at Krisel, Go ahead dude, Ill be here
waiting, Krisel said and crossed her arms as she leaned over a pillar.
Sora took in a deep breath. Theres no way shes going to avoid meeting him
now. Though a part of her doesnt want to see nor talk to him, theres still an urge
deep inside her heart or maybe brain, that wants to do so.
With her head hung low, Sora followed the guy inside.

Chapter 5 Piled
The guy was taken by surprise and quickly stood up from his bed upon seeing
Sora. Sora stared at him, surprised too as to why there was a bed in the storage
room beyond the walls of the LCD screen and blackboard.
Hey Aki, theres a girl looking for you, the helpful guy said with a grin.
Sora blushed. Its not because of what he said that theres a girl looking for
the CPCLH guy, its because she finally found out his name. Aki.

Aki frowned, Why take her here? I thought I told you to not let anybody
inside!
Sora took a step back, Im sorry! I just want to find my notebook because I
lost it here and I have a quiz tomorrow and I dont have any other notes. Sora
rambled.
The guy smirked, the same smirk that Sora saw during their first encounter,
So you lost it, huh? Youve been careless.
Suddenly, Sora became ofended. I wasnt! she shouted.
Then why did you lose it? Aki said scornfully.
It was just an accident!
Well, lets hush a little bit guys. Theres class going on, helpful guy said,
Aki, be nice, okay?
Aki looked away and pointed to his left, That box there. Search there. Every
bit of stuf I see lying around the lecture hall, I throw there.
Sora stared at him. Cant he be a little nice? Being more up close to him, she
saw that he actually looked handsome than from afar. She can imagine him smiling.
Smiling guys look even way better. But right now, he looked pissed.
Sora hung her head down and went towards the large box. But not before she
spotted another box just beside it full of...
Manga?! Anime?! Sora said happily as she went down on her knees and
rummaged the other box instead.
Akis eyes widened and his confidence level dropped. Dammit, he cant
believe that some girl, and a student to top it all of, to discover his collection of
anime.
Sora was already marvelling at the volumes of manga inside the box that she
had only read online through MangaFox. Sugoi! Sora said in Japanese.
Youve got yourself a pal now Aki, the helpful guy commented.
Aki gritted this teeth, Get away from that box! Theres rats and cockroaches
in there!
Immediately, Sora stood up, heart throbbing. Aki then, pulled at the big box
and pushed it towards the opposite wall, Dont go messing up other peoples stuf.
Aki said annoyed. It was a lie that there were bugs inside the box. He just didnt
want her to dig in any deeper or else she might find something thats weird for a
guy to keep.

Sora didnt move and remained rooted on one spot, Is there....are there also
cockroaches inside that box? Sora asked as she pointed to the box containing
assortments of books, pencil cases, plastics and other junk.
Aki sighed. No. He knew it was no use lying about it. Itll only lengthen her
time of stay inside this room.
Sora exhaled and went down on her knees again to search inside the box.
There was a lot of notebooks inside the books. Some, she bet, were maybe months
or years old, since the pages and writings were worn out and faded. It didnt take
her long to find her notebook, since it was just by the top of the pile.
Holding her notebook close to her chest, Sora stood up to face Aki, Thank
you very much! she said, brightly.
Aki scratched his head and averted her gaze, Yeah.
Sora was expecting something more, now that she realized that he liked
anime and manga too. It now makes them alike and Sora resisted herself from
jumping and dancing around like an idiot.
Aki stared at her smiling face and turned around. He really doesnt like the
presence of girls inside his room.
Come on, we shouldnt bother Mr. Grumpy too much, the other guy said,
after sensing an awkward period of silence.
Sora nodded and clutched her notebook to her chest, Thank you too. Sora
said to him.
He nodded and directed Sora out of the room. Back inside the CPCLH, Sora
ducked her head. No doubt the students inside are staring at her right now.
As she was about to stride back to the set of wooden doors leading outside,
Sora heard the other guy say to Aki, Admit it Aki. You like her dont you?
And with that, Sora blushed and grinned like an idiot. She didnt care
anymore if the students in the lecture hall are staring at her.

Chapter 6 Dare
Hey dude, wanna hang out with me later after classes? Krisel said as she
started putting on some mascara.
Sora put her book down and raised an eyebrow, Hang-out? Where? Why?

Krisel put down her make-up and rolled her eyes, Well duh! Its my
birthday!
Sora was surprised, What?! she blurted, But isnt that the day after
tomorrow?
Yeah, but I feel like celebrating it early.
Like a kid, Sora stood up from her bed, Count me in! she said and gave her
a thumbs up.
Great! Krisel said, A couple of my VetMed friends are coming along too.
Soras excitement deflated. If her friends are coming along, then what would
that make her? The odd one of the group no doubt; shed be out of place since she
wouldnt have any idea how to talk to them and what to say. She wasnt really the
outgoing type who can easily bond with other people.
If thats the case, then, I dont think I can come anymore. Sora said with a
pout.
What?! Krisel exclaimed, But its my birthday! I want you to be there
dude!
Im going to be out of place! I dont know your friends and I dont know how
to talk to them! It might get awkward! Sora complained.
Krisel let out a groan, Oh come on Sora, youre forgetting that Im there! You
wont be out of place coz youve got a friend in the group!
Still...wouldnt I be bothersome to your friends? I mean, Im hanging out with
them and they dont even know me!
Ill take care of that dude, dont worry.
Sora pouted. Then she thought of another thing, You said after classes, do
you mean that well be hanging out tonight?!
Yeah. I know this great place by The Grove. They serve really good food and
swell drinks.
By now, Sora was doubtful of coming along. Krisel is 24 years old, and the
definition of drinks for her is alcohol.
Wait a minute! Drinks?! As in wine? Alcohol?!
Sssshhh!!! Krisel hissed, Do you want everybody to find out?!

But, but! Sora started. She knew that this hang-out would get ugly. She
remembered the time Krisel had herself drunk one night then woke up with an
intense head-ache and stomach-ache the next day. She didnt want to end up like
that.
But then, although a part of her brain believes that drinking alcohol at her
age is totally wrong, she feels a thrill. Its doing something diferent for the first time
in seventeen years. She wanted to taste a real alcoholic beverage . Afterall, shes in
college already. Its something worth experiencing.
Are we gonna make it until the 9 o clock curfew? I really dont think wed be
returning to the dorm before that time. Sora said thoughtfully. She was already
considering going with Krisel and her friends.
Well, well just ask for a late permit. Ill say to sister that I want to celebrate
my birthday with you and since Im way older than you, Id bet theyd let me coz
they think Im a responsible adult. Krisel explained with a mischievous grin. Its
the truth after all. Im celebrating my birthday...and I am an adult.
Its going to be a bar, isnt it? Sora said.
Whatever.
You really think sister would let us? Sora asked.
Certain. Im setting our curfew till 10 pm.
For a while, Sora felt relieved. Things might just go well. They might make it
back in time in case things go out of hand and Krisel and her friends decide to get
totally drunk. But then, Sora felt this nagging thought in her mind that sister might
suddenly call her parents for confirmation about whether or not shes gonna be
allowed for some night partying. Sora doesnt plan on asking for her parents
permission. They would definitely say no. Theyre overprotective.
But in the end, Sora let this thought go and concluded that she needed a very
much well-deserved night of fun after her week-long quizzes. Okay, okay, Im
coming.
By 7 p.m., Sora and Krisel reached the bar. Sora had no idea what it was
called since there was no sign put up anywhere. The bar they went to was an
outdoor type. The chairs, tables and giant karaoke were situated outside. Beside the
bar where they were, are more bars, all with karaoke. There was one guy, a bit to
the left, who was sitting alone with a bottle of Red Horse on the table. He was
holding a microphone in one hand and was singing My Way. Sora was amazed that
this guy still has the guts to sing this song. Based on the news, many drunkards had
already gotten themselves injured, or worse, killed after singing My Way. People say
that the song has a curse attached to it. Sora herself doesnt want to sing it,

although there were times when the melody would suddenly keep replaying inside
her mind.
Sora shrugged and followed Krisel to a long table. Seated on it were four
people. One of the girls is someone who Sora faintly recognizes as her classmate in
English. She was someone who always dresses so elegantly and never fails to put
on make-up. Seating across her was a girl with frizzy hair. She seemed like the
smart and nerdy kind of girl. Sitting beside her was a guy. Sora was barely listening
to Krisel as she introduced her. Soras mind was occupied. She cant sop looking at
the guy. This is my friend, Sora...
No. Sora thought twice. That person beside her is definitely a girl, a tomboy
type of person maybe. She may look like a guy because of his hairstyle but Sora can
definitely spot her boobs. At the head of the table was tall and lean guy. He had the
looks of an Abercrombie model. His abs were visible and he had that bad-boy smirk
on him. But what Sora noted the most in him was that hes into smoking. White
pufs blew out from his lips as he drummed his fingers on the plastic table. 10 years
from now and youd look a fifty year old geezer with withering skin if you keep that
up, Sora said to herself.
The four of them seating at the table looked up and waved a hand at Krisel,
then at her. They smiled so Sora smiled back. The two open seats were beside the
guy who was smoking so Sora had no other options but to sit near him.
As Sora settled herself down, she gritted her teeth. She hated guys who
smoke. Loathe, is the better word. People who smoke annoy her. She felt like
slapping them and snatching their cigarettes and crushing those things on the
ground with her foot. If she werent the type of girl who holds back and has
modesty, she might already have cussed at the guy. Fuck you! Thats what she
would have said. But in reality, shes too much of a chicken to say stuf like that to
people.
The minutes that passed seemed like hours to Sora. She wanted to get up
from the table and go back to the dormitory. This guy beside her was smoking nonstop. It was getting on her nerves and she felt like she was choking from the smell.
But how can she leave? To be exact, only 30 minutes had passed and it would be
rude to Krisel and her friends if she leaves immediately. She wouldnt want to
disappoint Krisel who invited her here.
30 more minutes passed by and Sora couldnt take it any longer. Along with
the irritation of having to sit down and digest the cigarettes fumes, is the
humiliation. Everybody ordered something alcoholic. What did she order? Freaking
Pineapple juice. This is how innocent and conservative and safe Sora can get. When
she browsed through the menu of drinks, she didnt have any idea what the drinks
were supposed to be. It almost seemed like the labels for each beverage were
written in some foreign language.

She was so sure that the guy beside her chuckled when she ordered
pineapple juice. Her cheeks flushed and she clenched her hands. Now is the time to
get out of here.
Sora was definite on what to say. She wants to tell Krisel that she needs to
get back to the dorm immediately because she suddenly remembered that she had
an assignment to finish. Instead of that excuse, what Sora said was: Im gonna go
out for a while. I want to buy something. Ill be back.
Krisel raised an eyebrow at her but eventually nodded, Dont take long! she
said.
I wont! Ill be back soon! Sora promised.
It so wasnt what Sora had in mind. But whats said is said. She cant take it
back anymore. She quickly stood up from her chair and walked of. Once she was
out of the bar, she felt her lungs breathe freely again. She felt relieved and let out a
smile. Free from the cigarettes.
While walking, she spotted a couple of guys ahead, just sitting by the
benches along the path that she was walking on. Sora ducked her head. Sora
always does this when there are guys around. It became a habit for her and Sora
cant explain in words why she does it.
When she finally passed by the them and got to a distance, Sora stopped and
started thinking. She did say she was going to buy something. But what? She didnt
really plan on buying anything. But, if she didnt buy anything, then Krisel might
think she lied to her. Sora didnt want that. Sora continued walking towards the
main gate of the campus. Finally she found herself in front of a fast food restaurant,
KFC. She thought that the yogurt smoothies in here were delicious.
Without second thoughts, Sora went in and bought herself a strawberry
banana smoothie. She didnt care if the rest of Krisels friends laughed at her or
thought of her as a sissy for not drinking anything alcoholic.
With the drink in her hand, Sora went back to the bar. As she was about to
walk back on the pathway leading to the bar, she spotted the group of guys again.
Sora ducked her head and made a slight peek through the ends of her long bangs.
That was when she saw that tomboy; the guys were saying something to her and
laughing at the same time. Sora became curious. Friends, maybe?
But she found out she was wrong. As Sora drew nearer, she can hear tidbits
of their conversation. So, no money eh? Punk like you deserves a punishment.
Sora slowed down her steps to listen some more. How about this, I let you
go of the hook, if you do my dare, said one of the guys with ruffled hair. To Sora,
he has the exact hairstyle as Robert Pattinson.

The Pattinson look-a-like nudged the guy beside him with his arm. The guy
beside him was way taller than he was. 7 feet maybe? That guy was smoking a
cigarette and he handed it to the tomboy, Here, smoke this, if you can, smoker
guy said with a grin.
I...I cant, the tomboy mumbled.
Whats that you say? Pattinson-look-a-like said. If you dont shove it into
your mouth, Im gonna force it into your throat.
That was enough for Sora. She grabbed the tomboy by her arm and pulled
her away. Lets go.
The tomboy looked at her confused but didnt pull away. Clearly she wants to
get out of the situation. Hey you! Girl! What the hell do you think youre doing?
shouted the Pattinson guy.
Sora ignored him and continued dragging the tomboy with her. Once they
reach Krisels friends, they might be safe from those pack of losers. Although theres
only one boy and five girls at the table, its better than just the two of them facing
the guys.
Back at the table, Sora released her hold over the tomboys arm. Thanks,
she said.
Sora felt a glimmer of pride. She loved the fact that she had just helped
someone. Youre welcome, she replied with a smile.
The others at the table were oblivious to what just happened. The tomboy
and Sora just went back to their seats and Krisel said, Good! Youre back!, she
said while swigging a bottle of beer.
But it wasnt until the group of guys came to their table. Sora looked up and
saw Pattinson guy glaring at her. She felt afraid.
Who the fuck do you think you are to meddle into our business?! he
shouted.
Sora went rigid, cold. Krisel stood up, face annoyed, and pointed a finger at
him, I should be asking that! Who the fuck do you think you are to come here?
Sora turned to look at the tomboy. She was fixated on her glass of wine. Sora
bets shes also scared.
That stupid friend of yours came to us and started messing around. Its her
fucking fault! the guy said and pointed his finger at Sora. And you! he added as
he turned to point at the tomboy, Better pay up now or else youre dead. Double

dead. I meant what I said. You better do something about this or youre friends are
gonna pay for it..
You have no fucking right to threaten us asshole! Krisel shouted.
Your friends messed with us first. We have the right!
Sora looked at him, speechless. That was when she saw the guy. The guy
from the CPCLH. Aki. He was all eyes and his head was covered with a hoodie. It
seemed like he was judging how things were going to end up.
Sora was about to speak when Abercrombie guy stood up, Now is not the
time to settle things here.
Heh? Pattinson guy said in a mocking tone, What? You wanna make me
wait for years pal? I have no patience.
Leave the girls alone!
No can do buddy. Now is payback time.
Suddenly, Pattinson guy walked towards Soras seat and pulled her up, Ill
start getting payback from this girl then.
Huh?! What? Sora was already trembling. She can really feel that somehow,
this campus really is cursed. Krisel looked at him with an enraged face, Hey just
wait a minute dude, you cant...
Suddenly, Abercrombie guy stood up and pushed the guy away, Back of pal.
Unless you want to get hurt.
Hohoho. Want a fight? the guy dared.
Abercrombie guy grabbed a hold of Soras wrist. You do not hurt her. Not
while Im here. Dont you have common sense not to hurt a defenceless girl? You
son of a bitch.
What did you say?
Out of the blue, Aki spoke up, Lets go Ralf, remember that we still got
Chancey on our tails.
Chancey? Sora thought. The Chancellor of the University? How did he fit into
the picture? What does Aki mean that hes on their tails?
Ralf released Sora and smirked, Be glad that nothing bad happened. For
now, he said.

And with that the group of guys started walking away. Sora realized that Akis
stare lingered on her. Her eyes met Akis. It might have lasted about fifteen
seconds but Sora felt her heart pound even faster. There was a kind of sad
expression on his face. Eventually, Aki walked of and Sora stared at his retreating
figure. Sora was totally frightened a while ago but the way Aki looked at her made
her feel a bit comforted, although his expression wasnt happy or reassuring. Sora
believed that Aki had been concerned for her safety. He said those words to help
me didnt he? He said that so Ralf would leave me alone right? Sora felt warmer
inside. She didnt admit it yet, but she was already starting to have a crush on him.
Are you okay? Abercrombie guy said.
Sora flinched. Oh right, he was the real savior. If he hadnt butted in, Sora
might have experienced something worse. Thank you, Sora said gratefully as she
looked at him directly in the eyes. She forgot about wanting to cuss at him for
smoking.
He looked away but grinned, a nice grin actually. Thank God you didnt get
hurt, he added and finally, turned to smile at her.
Sora hated herself. She was blushing. Why does she get attracted so easily?
But how can she not register a feeling of delight and giddiness if a guy does
something to help her?
I should be the one thanking you. Sora replied and smiled back.

Chapter 7 Weird
Sora kept glancing at the wall clock beside the large LCD screen, her right
knee jumping up and down under her desk. The time is 6:35 p.m.
Right now she was having her Filipino class at CPCLH. Itll end five to ten
minutes before 7 p.m. and she cant wait for it to be over. She has two quizzes
tomorrow and she havent studied anything yet. She swore that once she gets back
to the dorm after this class, shes going to concentrate on her studies.
Now please get a one-fourth sheet of yellow paper and write all the names
of your group members, her female professor said suddenly.
WHAT? Sora blurted. She was deep in thought about the lessons that she
has to study for the quiz that she didnt have any idea why the teacher was asking
for a list.
Its for the final research paper, whispered her seatmate.

Sora turned to her right and looked at Lisbeth, Ohh...that one.... she said
sheepishly.
Sora was blank for a while before asking, Whos gonna write for our group?
Lisbeth pointed to Bella who was seating at her right.
Oh. Sora said.
Sora slumped on her chair and looked at her professor. She had a sharp nose
and hawk-like kind of eyes. Physically, shes probably a plus size. But Sora noticed
that her feet are smaller than hers. As Sora was taking in the details, Bella spoke
up, Hey guys, my cells ringing and I need to take this, can somebody else list
down the names of the members in our group?
Sora turned to look at her and realized that she was the only one listening to
Bella. Lisbeth has a pair of earphones on and the others were chattering loudly or
typing away on their cellphones. Bella noticed Sora staring and shoved the paper at
her, Here. You list down our names, Bella said.
Uhhh... Sora said. Okay...
She had no problem with it. She knew all the names of the people in the
group. They were all her friends...well, somehow. While Sora began writing down the
names, her professor spoke again, After listing the names, pass it to aisle and then
forward. Then after that, go up to the front.... she said and pointed at the flat
screen computer beside her, ...and check out your long quiz results here.
Scores of our quiz? Sora said loudly.
Soras heart started beating erratically again. Its always like this when
grades come up. Sora hoped that shed get a high score. Average wasnt enough for
her. But still, she knows shes not GC, meaning, grade-conscious. Her eforts werent
for the suma-cum-laude or magna-cum-laude kinds.
Sora hurriedly finished writing and carelessly flung her hand with the paper at
Nicks nose.
Her hand hit his nose and Soras eyes widened. Oh no! Nick! Im sorry!!! Im
really sorry!
Nick simply grinned in response and massaged his nose, Its okay, its fine.
Are you sure? Youre really okay?
Yeah, yeah, dont worry about it. Accidents always happen, he said and
winked at her.

Sora knew that Nick was the playboy kind of guy. She believes that he always
does these things in front of girls. She didnt want to ride with it, but Sora gave him
an appreciative smile. She was the one at fault after all.
With the papers finally handed over to the front, Aki suddenly came out of his
room behind the front wall of the lecture hall. He had an uncaring and bored look on
his face. He reached the computer in just a few, wide steps. Then, he started
clicking on the mouse.
Kuya here, will show you your scores. Just tell him your surname and hell
search for you and your grades, the professor explained.
Within a few seconds, most of the students were already on their feet and
began swarming around the computer. She saw Aki give slight glances at some girls
who got first to him to give their names. She saw him nod and unexpectedly, she
saw him smile, an embarrassed and cute type of smile.
Sora was hit with a pang of jealousy at the girls beside him. Dont get too
close with him! Sora said in her mind. She made a sour face and looked away. Why
the heck was she so worked up? Its not like she cares.
Hey Sora!
It was Pam. She waved a hand at her, Lets see our scores together! she
yelled.
Sure!
At this, Sora beamed. Its so nice to have even just one friend beside you to
do stuf like this. Although she admits that being alone sometimes is better, you still
cant live your life through college without a buddy.
Sora slipped on her backpack and weaved around the chairs to get to Pam.
She was now talking to two girls, none of which was familiar to Sora.
......so well do it on Friday?...
.......too much stuf.......ask for help...
can we.........
......maybe we can tell him....
Although Sora was within hearing range, she still has difficulty listening into a
conversation in average tones. She guesses that its probably because of her old
habit during high school; the habit of listening to Japanese rock music via the earcanal type of earphones with the volume on max. It doesnt hurt her ears.

After several minutes, Sora became impatient. It seemed like they werent
finishing up on their conversation soon. There was already a great crowd around Aki
and Sora wondered if she would ever get near him, much less, see her score on the
long quiz. Aside from that, she also needed to study for other quizzes tomorrow.
Sora looked at Pam and hoped that she would catch her staring. She wanted
to tell her to hurry it up. Fortunately, Pam did lock eyes with her. Sora motioned her
head to the front and mouthed, Lets go.
Pam nodded apologetically and turned to her friends, Ill just meet up with
you later at my apartment to discuss the rest of the plans. Okay? I still need to see
my score over there.
The two girls nodded. Okay! Bye then. Text-text later, said one of them.
Okay. But arent you two gonna check your scores?
Err...not interested, said the other.
They walked of and Sora gave a sigh of relief, Come on.
Are you in a hurry? Pam asked.
Kinda. Sora said, Theres just some stuf that I need to study.
Umm.. Pam said, Sora....
Yeah?
I need a favour to ask of you, Pam pleaded and looked at Sora with a sad,
pouty face.
What? Sora said and let out a laugh. That expression doesnt you.
I know you said that youre in a hurry, but can you please wait for me for a
while first? Im gonna ask Professor Lila about my reaction paper that she graded.
Sora raised an eyebrow, Why? Is there a problem with it?
Theres something I wanna ask. Is it okay with you??? Pam asked again.
Im really sorry for this. Sorry Sora...
Sora sighed. Its fine. Afterall, theres an entire night left to study. Sora said
and gave her a smile.
The two of them sauntered to the front and made their way around all the
other students. There was no use avoiding stepping on other peoples foot or
bumping into their bags. Most of them were pushing so it cant be helped. Sora

even lost sight of Aki who was seating down in front of his computer. There were
just too many heads in the way.
Pam grabbed a hold of Soras wrist and pulled her towards Ms. Lila. Sora
frowned. Theyre going to wait again. The professor was still talking with a couple of
other students. Pam raised a palm, Please wait for me...
Sora had no choice but to wait. Although she was itching to know her score
and get back to the dorm, she just cant. She didnt want to upset her friend; even
though right now she was already upset. Not wanting to let Pam see her annoyed
face, she turned to look for Aki. Did he see me?
Somehow, he didnt. He was too busy on the computer. Sora kept staring at
him. Come on, just a glance...
At that time, she wouldnt admit and probably doesnt know for herself that
she has a crush on him. All that was clear to her was that she felt her heart beat
faster and that it made her warm and tingly all over whenever they meet eyes or
come across one another.
Sora willed him to look at him. Its unexplainable in words as to why. She just
wanted him to notice her. And then, after a while, he did look up.
They locked eyes and Sora felt nervous and giddy at the same time. He had
that same look before. Indiferent. It was the i-dont-care-and-Im-bored kind of look.
Hurriedly, Sora looked away and pretended to inspect the swarm of students in front
of her. She felt embarrassed yet happy.
Then suddenly, she didnt care if she and Pam wait any longer. She was just
so happy that Aki had noticed his presence and she hoped that he would look at her
again even if she feels embarrassed. Sora was rooted at the same spot and tried
acting cute (in a vague way). She knows its stupid. She doesnt even consider her
cute. But what else can she do? Especially when theres a guy near her who
practically makes her heart skip a beat. Sora lost track of time, looking blankly into
space, and thinking whether Aki looked at her again. She didnt want to glance at
him although she wanted him to do the same.
By the time only a handful of students were crowding by the computer did
Pam finish her talk with the professor. Ms. Lila made her way to the exit and Pam
walked towards Sora. Sora jumped when Pam laid a hand on her shoulder.
Come on, lets check out our scores. Pam said.
Oh, yeah...haha. Sora said. She totally forgot about that too.
Pam and Sora hung out at the edge of the small crowd and let the others pass
first before coming closer to the computer. By this time, Soras heart was pounding

hard and fast. How is she supposed to act when she nears Aki? Should she be the
happy, friendly and thankful person who got saved from bad guys? Or should she
also stay indifferent like him? Or should she just smile and act normal?
Sora racked her brain for answers until finally, only her and Pam were the
students left inside the CPCLH. Pam walked ahead and Sora bravely followed. Aki
averted his focus from the computer screen and looked up. His eyes met hers. Sora
knew that she was the only person who he had glanced at. His face was blank of
emotions or reactions. But when Aki finally glanced away and back to his computer,
Aki smirked. It was an obvious smirk. Not a mischievous smirk, but a really nice
smirk.
Sora looked down at the floor and smiled.
Nunnally Pam, Batch 2012, Communication Arts Student. Pam said.
Sora inched closer. She also wanted to know what Pams score was. But she
was hesitant about moving towards Aki since she felt weird around him. Weird, as in
happy and excited yet frustrated, restless, and embarrassed.
Aki scrolled down on Microsoft Excel when suddenly, the lights went of.
Pam let out a scream and Sora slapped her arm. Pam!!!
Sora can hear her own breath and her palms started becoming sweaty. In
situations like this, when she feels panicky, Soras eyes searches for the window.
Since itd be night outside, luckily, there would also be stars; and stars give Sora a
feeling of comfort.
Stay here. Ill fix up some lights.
It was Akis voice! Aki to the rescue again!!! Sora resisted herself from
jumping in glee. Here he was, doing something of great help to the helpless. Sora
let out a soft giggle.
Sora....are you there?? Im afraid of the dark. Pam whimpered.
Dont worry, Aki said hell do something about it.
Aki?? Whos that?
Sora shut up. It was a moment of selfishness and she didnt want other
people knowing his name.
After a while, a door behind them creaked open and yellow light came
bursting out. Sora noticed the eerie shadows spreading towards the last set of seats
at the end of the lecture hall. The word ghosts entered her mind. She already heard
lots of scary stories in the campus. She hoped she wouldnt encounter one today.

Sorry. It seems like theres only one lamp working. Aki said and strode
forward them. Pam had her hands clasped in front of her chest as if shes praying.
Sora nodded, Its okay. Thank you.
I guess the two of you wont be able to see your quiz results tonight. Come
back again tomorrow here to see it. Aki said to the two of them.
Tomorrow?? Pam said in a low voice. What time?
Well, since I work only here everyday, and there are classes here every day,
my only free time is from 4 to 5 in the afternoon. Aki replied as he gently placed
the lamp on the table beside the computer.
Oh no, I have classes on that time everyday. Pam whined.
I dont. Sora said and looked at Aki. Aki stared at her. This time, Sora didnt
break contact. Then come here tomorrow. You can check up on your friends grade
too, he said and smiled.
It was a smile that felt like your heart was going to melt. It had the feeling
equal to making an exhilarating loop at a rollercoaster.
Sora smiled back, Okay.
Ill be around outside. Just look for me.
Okay.
Aki escorted them outside. Pam was ahead of her again; Sora at a distance
not within Pams hearing range. Before Sora can catch up with her friend, and
before the wooden door closed behind her, Aki whispered, Good night....

Chapter 8 Sour
As Sora trudged along the dirt road, her most favorite shortcut to the heart of
the campus, she kept getting nervous. She was on her way to meet Aki again. She
cant believe that shes fussing over a guy like him. He didnt have a model esque
look about him, he wasnt fair complexioned, and he might as well be six years
older than she was; so why does she get all animated when seeing him?
Sora shook her head and shoved her hands into the front pocket of her jacket.
The weather this afternoon was blustery and cold.
When Sora finally reached the fork in the road just behind the Physical
Sciences building, a sharp gust of wind blew her long hair to her face. And she
didnt notice a cherry-red motorcycle speeding up towards her.

Sora jumped away from its direction when it beeped at her. She almost got
hit by that thing!
She felt indignant and annoyed. That driver didnt even stop and say sorry,
said Sora to herself. Although she wanted to call out to the driver, he was already
far away and heading to where she came from (and she didnt have an inch of
courage to do it either). Sora stuck out her tongue and continued walking. No stupid
motorcycle driver is going to sour her day.
Upon finally reaching the CPCLH, Sora looked around. She cant see Aki yet.
But he did say hell just be around outside, didnt he?
She stopped in front of the bulletin boards just outside the CPCLH. Where was
he? Sora pouted but decided to look around the entire Biological Sciences building.
She turned around the corner hoping to come across him. Sadly, he wasnt there.
Sora looked at the corridors leading to the sciences classrooms and looked at the
empty stone benches beside the lecture hall. He still isnt around here. Sora made
another turn and stood in front of the IBSLH, a lecture hall opposite to CPCLH. I
thought he said he was going to be around outside? Did he forget? Or was he just
fooling around with me? Sora asked herself.
Sora frowned. She returned in front of the CPCLH. As she stared at the
wooden doors, she realized: could it be that hes inside right now?
Sora slowly budged one of the wooden doors open and peeked in. That was
when somebody poked her back...
Excuse me...?
Sora turned around, flustered.
Hey! Its you again!
In front of Sora was the guy she had encountered that night when she came
back to the CPCLH to get her notebook. Sora gave him a smile and nodded.
Are you searching for a lost notebook again? he said with a grin.
Ah! No, Sora said, I was....I was just looking for...Aki.
The guy raised an eyebrow, Really?
Uhmm, you see, he said to meet him around here yesterday to check out
my scores in Filipino on the computer. And I cant find him right now.
Aki hurriedly left just a while ago, the guy said with a sorry smile.
Sora felt deflated. She thinks that Aki had forgotten or maybe he didnt
actually care. So much for being excited...

Oh...I see, then...I guess Im going now. Sora said and took a step away.
Ah, no, wait, how about I do it? the guy said.
Sora turned to look at him and smiled. He really is a much nicer guy than Aki,
Sora thought to herself.
Oh wait, I dont know your name. Sora said, as she turned to follow him
inside the lecture hall.
My name is Jun. Just Jun. Pleasure to meet you.....???
Sora chuckled, Sora. My name is Sora.
Then, its a pleasure to meet you Sora. You are batch...???
Batch 12.
What course are you in?
ComArts.
Ah, the excellent public speakers and masters of writing, he said happily.
Not really.... Sora said embarrassedly.
When they finally reached the computer, Jun swiftly browsed through the
computer folders, Filipino right? Fil 20 if Im not mistaken.
Sora nodded, Yup. My professor there is Ms. Lila.
Ah-huh, ah-huh. Oh, here it is! Whats your last name?
Athaleia.
Jun found her immediately and pointed at a row. She got six mistakes out of a
hundred.
Whew, I didnt know your were that smart, Jun said and let out a whistle.
Sora just chuckled, Can you also please search for the name Nunnally Pam?
Shes my friend and she also wants to know her score.
Okay.....N...N....N.....Here we are!
Sora bent to look. Pam got sixty-two over one hundred. Well, at least, she
passed.
Thank you. Sora said with a smile.
Oh, its no problem. Come on, lets go.

Outside, Sora and Jun quickly exchanged good-byes. When Sora finally
walked away from the CPCLH, she beamed at how her hard work had paid of. She
really got a high score. This day is a good one afterall. Even though its annoying
that Aki turned back on his word, she still encountered another good guy named
Jun. To be truthful, hes more good-looking than Aki, Sora admitted and blushed. As
she thought of all these, she didnt realize that she was at the middle of the road
already and a motorcycle was gaining speed towards her.
Soras adrenaline kicked in and she quickly stepped out of harms way. When
she spotted that it was a red motorcycle, Sora thought it might be the same
motorcycle when she was by the Physical Sciences building. Sora frowned at the
driver who parked beside the CPCLH. If he really was the same driver as before,
then there is only one description fit for him: careless.
As Sora turned around, she made sure to look at all angles this time in case
another reckless driver comes drifting by.

Chapter 9 Cute
Neh, Quinee, what time is it?
9:45. I think we can still make it in time for English.
Sora nodded. She cant stop squirming in her seat. Her and Quinees
upcoming class at 10 is English 1, and their professor, the one who wore funeral
kind of clothes, Sir Remdall (thought of the majority as a gay) is bound to get mad
at students who come in one minute after ten o clock. It was difficult beating the
time. Since she is now at Guidance Counseling, an hour long meeting for new
freshmen, which was a long, long way from the CPCLH where English would be held,
it would be near to impossible to get to English on time without getting humiliated
in front of the entire class by Sir Remdall. It was also unfair that he had to do this to
the not-so late students. Everyone in the university knows that its a part of the rule
to let students have a grace period of five to ten minutes after the designated time
for starting the class. Sir Remdall has to be rational.
Sora held her chin up high, Oh who cares, she has Quinee with her to go to
class, so it wouldnt be just her who has to face Sir Remdalls wrath, she said to
herself.
She breathed in and faced the man standing in front of the circle. Sora and
the rest of her blockmates (a kind of section for new freshmen) were seated around
him while he was explaining some kind of game. Sora forgot his name. In her mind,
she called him the Chinese Man since obviously, he had that Chinese look on him.
He also had some hair at the nape of this neck grown out and done in a braid. The
braid was color blonde.

She wondered if this teacher is gay.

Okay students, choose from these options: ocean, sea, river, lake, and
brook. Afterwards, Ill be asking each of you on what you chose. Later, when I heard
everybodys answer, then I shall explain to you the significance of what you chose.
Chinese man said.
Everybody started talking. What could those water stuf mean? For Sora, she
chose lake. Shed been to a lake once and she found it more peaceful and beautiful
to look at than the ocean, sea and whatever else was on the list. She remembered
reading Anne of Green Gables and thought of the Lake of Shining Waters and how
it was described in the novel. It gave Sora a fantastical feeling that she decided that
the lake was her definite choice.
As Chinese man began pointing to each student and then finally to Sora, till
the last speaker, he cleared his throat before saying, Now, I bet youre curious on
whats the significance of this game and the ocean, sea, river, lake and brook. Well,
this game is actually to find out how large is your sexual desire.
Her blockmates eyes widened and some started laughing and giggling. Sora
was open-mouthed. What could her choice mean?
For those who chose the ocean, which is the largest water form out there, it
means that you have a large and intense sexual desire or drive! For sea, there is
still a great desire for sex, though not as active and intense as the first. For the
river, lets just say that youre willing for sex and fantasizes about it, though not as
much as the sea. For the lake, there is slight desire for sex and its not too obvious.
Then, the smallest water form, which is the brook, has the smallest inclination for
sexual activities!
Sora let out a sigh of relief. She looked at Quinee beside her who kept saying
Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!
Well its understandable that shed be shocked since she chose the ocean.
Sora laughed and patted her friend on her back. Its okay Quinee..
They laughed together and Sora realized that this Guidance Counselling
games were fun one way or another.
After giggling for a while, Sora asked again, Neh, Quinee, what time is it
now?
Quinee looked at her watch and she stopped laughing, Oh no, its 9:55
No way!!!
Quinee and Sora looked up at the Chinese guy. Just in cue, he said, Okay
kids, thats all for today! You can go now!

With that, Quinee grabbed their bags and threw the door wide open. Hand in
hand, they ran like all hell got lose. Well, if Sir Remdalls gonna pronounce them as
late, then hell might as well have gotten unleashed. The two of them quickly and
carefully made their way down the steep wooden stairs of the Student Union
Building. Once they safely got down, they speeded up even faster.
I cant believe that Sir Remdall has to be so unfair to his students. Sora said
as she ran.
Quinee nodded, He should understand our situation more.
Upon reaching the edge of the Student Union building, there were more
steps. Sora stopped for a while, Lets slow down Quinee.
Sora was panting with great difficulty. She was totally out of air. Okay then.
Lets take it slowly. Im really tired too, Quinee said, smiling. Sora was grateful for
having an understanding friend like Quinee. It was really nice meeting someone like
her.
When they reached the bridge, the two of them just took brisk and long
steps. Sora kept on panting, and her lungs were too tight. She knew the reason:
scoliosis.
As they come up behind the old Arts and Sciences Building, Quinee said,
LOOK! Were almost there Sora! she said and raised a palm for a high five.
Sora slapped palms with her and took a deep breath. Almost there..........
The one thing she was thankful for right now was that their English 1 class
with Sir Remdall existed only once a week, which means that shell only be sufering
once a week like this.
Soon enough, they reached the large tree with thick overhanging vines,
behind it was the door to the CPCLH.
Oh Sora, I think I need to go to the comfort room right now! Quinee said
suddenly.
Ill come along. I dont want to come in-time and you, late when we both
came together here. Sora said.
No. You need to give this to Bryce. Quinee said as she handed her a black
USB.
This is our group performance video. We drew slots last week right? Were
actually the first ones to perform, so I think you should go in now and give this to
Bryce.

Sora sulked; she didnt want to abandon Quinee, but then she gave her a
reassuring smile, Okay. Ill go in first.
Quinee gave her one last smile and a bright thanks before striding away. Sora
hurriedly turned around and grabbed the knob at the door.
What happened next had totally hurt her.
As Sora pulled at the door, somebody had opened the door from the inside.
The one inside had pushed the door so suddenly and since Sora was in too much of
a hurry, she put great strength in pulling the door towards her. The door came flying
at her face and hit her on the forehead.
OUCH!!! Sora shouted as she tumbled down the elevated step in front of
the wooden doors. She almost fell on her back but she was able to quickly grab hold
of the open door and because someone had gripped her elbow.
Sora really felt like cussing. Shit! Damn you! The pain shot through her entire
head and it made her dizzy for a moment.
Hey! Are you okay?! said the person in front of her.
Of course Im not! Sora thought to herself and looked up to the person in
front of her.
AKI!
You... Sora whispered.
Are you okay?! Im really, really sorry! It was an accident! Aki said as he
steadied her. Are you okay?
Sora clutched her forehead. She didnt know if she was to suppose to say that
its okay, Im fine, even though thats not true or if she was to get mad at him and
start saying stuf like, be careful!, and then start glowering and throwing annoyed
looks.
It just hurts a lot... was what Sora said as she ruffled her bangs away from
her forehead.
Its getting red.... Aki said with a frown, Ill get you some ice. Sit here,
dont go anywhere!
Ah, wait!!
Sora became nervous. Now was not the time for this. The USB.......Sir Remdall
mad.......Bryce ........Quinee............humiliation........
No........

Sora stood up and ran after Aki, Hey! Ano~....

She dont know why she cant say his name. It just feels so strange....
Hey!!!! Wait! Wait! Sora said.
Aki was already at a distance and was heading towards the IBSLH, HEY!
WAIT!!!!!!!!!!
This time, Soras voice was much louder, that everyone she passed by stared.
Aki turned around, confused. What? Why? Are you okay?
No. You dont need to.......
Aki walked back to Sora. He looked at her with a worried face, Dont need to
what???!
Aki was staring directly into her eyes and Sora felt like melting into a puddle.
Those eyes were just too cute...
Dont get the ice anymore. I need to get inside the CPCLH now.
Aki narrowed his eyes at her. His mouth was slightly open, as if he wanted to
say something. Sora thought he might say no, dont do it, but he didnt.
If thats the case, then I guess youre okay. Okay, I wont get the ice
anymore.
Sora gulped, Okay... she squeaked. Thanks anyway, she added and
smiled before turning her back and running of. It was a moment she would never
forget for the rest of her life.

Chapter 10 Unseen
Recitation class at Speech Communication was over and Soras informative
speech on dinosaurs was over too. Last week she had been so nervous about being
the first informative speaker on the second batch. Now, it was over. Totally finished.
Sora! Sora! Look at that puddle! Pam said, when they got outside the Arts
and Sciences building. Sora wasnt paying attention, she was busy munching on a
mooncake that Haley shared with her.
Oh hey, theres a rainbow reflected on it! remarked Darwin, who was an
upperclassman, an electrical engineering student, and a classmate of theirs in
SpeechCom.

Sora glanced at the puddle, Oh right! Its pretty, she said and turned to nod
at Darwin.
She then looked at Pam who was beaming in delight, I want to take a picture
of this with Instagram! Its so cute!
Pam whipped out her BlackBerry from her bag and started taking pictures.
Its really beautiful when you get to see a rainbow after the rain. Its cool to
see so many colors in the sky. Darwin said.
Pam gushed with glee, Yes, youre right!
Well, I guess well be going now! Darwin said as he patted another
classmate slash upperclassman on the back named Sam. How about you guys? he
pointed to me and Pam.
Oh, our dorm is over there. Pam and Sora chorused.
Sora pointed up ahead and Darwin nodded, I see. Well, bye! See you around
freshies!
Pam raised a hand to wave good-bye, Ba-bye!
After watching at the two guys walk away towards the left part of the
campus, Jenny and Haley said their own good-byes.
I guess me and Haley would be going back to the dorm now. Jenny said,
Bye Sora! Bye Pam!! she said with a smile.
As Sora stared at their retreating figures, Pam, on the other hand, was also
staring at the other two retreating figures at the left.
All of sudden, Pam grabbed at Soras arm and whispered, Lets follow
Darwin.
Sora frowned, What?? Why?
Pam pouted, Oh please, please...come on Sora.
Sora stared at her friend disbelievingly. Why do you want to do that???
Its just... Pam started.
Sora raised an eyebrow, What?
Its just that Ive had a crush on him ever since he did his speech in front of
class. And then, well, I realized he was the cute..and that hes the kind of guy I like.
Pam explained exasperatedly.

Sora sighed, Isnt that stalking Pam? Following him would be stalking. And
its too risky. What if he sees us?
He wont! Pam cried.
How do you know?
Look. Pam said as she pointed at the sky.
Right now, the sky was a shade of purple and orange. Very soon, it would
grow dark, Sora thought to herself.
They wont see us because its not too bright out anymore! The trees can
provide us a disguise! Pam said.
Sora was still not convinced.
Oh come on Sora, please come with me, I want to know where he lives
around the campus. Pam was practically pleading.
In the end, Sora gave in and she found herself trailing after Darwin and Sam.
I cant believe Im doing this. This is one of those things that I see in movies and
find very stupid. Sora muttered.
Aw, Sora, dont say that! For the sake of the guy you love, you would do
anything...even if it is stupid. Pam retorted.
Sora relented. Actually, deep inside, she found this stalking thing very fun.
This is a first for her and somehow, she was excited. Her heart was beating merrily
and she wondered where the two guys would lead them.
Hmm, I wonder Pam.. Sora began, Is this your first time stalking or is this
your sixth time? Sora said with a chuckle.
Hey! This is the first time Ive ever done this. Pam cried out loudly.
Sora let out a laugh. Really?
Yes it is! I really like Darwin! This is the first time I have ever liked a guy so
much!!!!
That was when the two guys stopped walking. They were already by the car
park behind the Annex 2 building of Science and Arts. Sora saw Sam turn his head
towards their direction. To be honest, Soras brain is kinda slow when it comes to
processing things. She immediately went blank and just stared at the two figures
they were stalking
Oh no! Pam said. Sora! Hide!

Lucky enough, there was a tree with a large trunk right beside them. Pam
quickly hid behind the trunk, leaving blank Sora confused. Only when Darwin turned
his head back, did Sora return got a hold of herself. She turned around and
pretended to examine the branches of the tree.
Immediately, Sora felt stupid. Now what??? Darwin and Sam saw her! This is
really bad! They might get the wrong idea!
I mean, what classmate goes around falling back into step where her guy
classmates had been walking and then pretend to ignore them when they see her
instead of just calmly waving hi and going up to them and striking a casual and
friendly conversation? Oh wait, right, that was never going to happen, Sora thought
to herself. She remembered so clearly that she and Pam pointed out to Darwin the
direction of the dorm that they were staying at on campus. And this so wasnt THAT
direction.
Pam peeked at her friend acting like an innocent bystander slash tree
observer. Sora...!
Hey Sora! Pam hissed. Sora!!! she repeated.
So...
Okay, okay! I hear you. Sora hissed back.
Are they away? Pam asked.
Sora continued staring at the branches above. If Darwin and Sam were still
looking, she cant stop her facade right now. She wanted to make her act look really
convincing, although very idiotic.
Thank God there are no other students around in this area right now. Sora
whispered to herself.
What???
Sora shook her head. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw that the two guys
were gone. She sighed in relief. They went on.
Pam jumped out from behind the tree and pulled at Soras arm again. Huh?
What?
It doesnt end here! Pam said indignantly, We still need to follow them! I
need to know where his dorm is!
Sora hung her head. Youre really not giving up?
How can I? Theres no turning back.

I envy your determination.

Pam laughed.
Sora had lost sight of the two guys. Well, maybe thats also because she has
poor night vision. Maybe Pam has a hawks eye because she looked pretty much
knowing of where Darwin and Sam went. Sora just cant believe that Darwin and
Sam saw her following them. But then...
Pam, Pam, do you think they recognized me a while back? Sora asked. It
was dark already right? You think they saw it was me, following them?
Sora was being hopeful. She hoped the two guys hadnt seen her, well,
maybe they did see her, but she wished that they didnt recognize her as Sora, their
classmate.
Pam was staring straight ahead, I dont know. I didnt see.
Sora sighed sadly, Cant you just lie and say that you think they didnt see
me, just to make me feel assured?
Uh, yeah.
It was useless. When Pam gets in-sync with whatever shes doing, you cant
talk to her about other things.
Soon, they came at the corner of the Economics building. They either take left
or right. Sora had no idea where Pam was leading her. But then, Sora spotted two
figures walking of to the right.
Sora nudged Pam, Hey, isnt that Darwin and Sam? she said while squinting
to see better.
Pam took a second to look, No. I saw them go over there. Pam said and
pointed to the left where there was a street and a huge gate just across housing
some kind of villas or maybe, apartments. I think thats where his dorm his. I just
saw them go in that gate.
Really? Are you sure? I think thats them. Sora said and pointed to the right.
No. Thats not them Sora. Pam said frowning.
Come on.
This time it was Sora who grabbed at Pams arm and started dragging her.
Sora believed that those two were Darwin and Sam.

Just when they were ten metres away, the supposed Darwin and Sam turned
around. And right then, Soras heart was in her throat.

Chapter 11 Blush
Aki... Sora whispered.
The one she thought was Darwin is actually Aki...and right now, he, along
with some other guy she didnt recognize, was staring at them.
Pam nudged Sora with her arm, I told you it wasnt them, she whispered.
Come on, lets go. Pam said and grabbed Soras wrist.
Ah, hey, wait!
Sora stopped dead in her tracks and looked at Aki. Can we....talk for a
while? Aki said.
Aki looked at Sora with earnest eyes. Pam realized that Sora was the one that
the guy was talking to. Slowly, she released her grip at Soras wrist.
Sora was hesistant, but eventually she nodded. She knew that it was risky,
that she isnt supposed to talk to some guy she barely even knew, especially since
the other guy with him was particularly suspicious. He looked like the type of guy
who would rob a bank or steal a purse or something. He had a beard and his hair
was unkempt.
Lets just meet again tomorrow okay? Im going to talk to him for a while.
Sora said to Pam.
Pam stared at her obliviously. Huh?? Are you sure? she blurted, They look
like a pair of bad guys from a murder movie. she hissed at Soras ear.
Stop scaring me! Sora hissed back.
Sora realized that she had spoken too loudly. She grew hot from
embarrassment. Ill just text you after an hour okay? Sora whispered, If you dont
get a text within the hour, it means Im dead.
Pam looked at her in horror.
Sora sighed, Just do it okay? And relax, if they do something to me, Ill beat
them to pulp.
Pam looked at the guys behind Sora. She bit her lip, Be careful, she warned.

As Pam finally started walking away, Sora turned.

At that instant, she gasped. She didnt realize that Aki was just behind her.
She didnt hear him walk up to her from the back. Sora almost bumped her nose
into his chest.
Im...
No, sorry... Aki said and backed of a little bit.
The closeness between Sora and Aki had them awkward for a moment.
Aki scratched his head. Sora stared at him in wonder. His image right now is
totally diferent from before. He didnt seem like the snarky bad boy as of last time.
Sora could hardly hide her smile.
Hey Aki, Im in a hurry so Im gonna go ahead.
Sora looked at Akis pal. Without another word, he sprinted of towards a line
of trees and disappeared out of sight.
Is he your friend? Sora asked.
Aki stared at her, You dont remember him?
Sora frowned, No. Ive never seen him before.
Aki smiled and let out a breath, Well, it doesnt matter. I need to talk to you
about something.
Sora blushed. She was curious about what he wanted to talk about.
Aki looked down at the ground, Im sorry I wasnt able to meet you like I
promised and,uhm.....Im sorry about the door and your...uh, head.
Sora couldnt contain her smile. All along she thought that Aki simply didnt
care about meeting up with her. As for the accident at CPCLH, she bit her lip as she
realized how sorry Aki was for doing that.
Sora felt speechless for a moment. She couldnt look into his eyes, but
eventually she summed up courage, Its fine, she said softly, I saw my grades in
Filipino with the help of your friend Jun and I....well, that accident wasnt at all bad.
Im okay now.
Aki was now smiling. Then.. he let out a laugh, Thats a relief.
Sora smiled back. There they were amidst the dark, smiling at each other.
This is one big thing thats shes going to rant about to Krisel once she gets back
into the dorm.

But uhmm, Aki started, I want to make it up to you.

Sora blushed, Ah no! Thats not really necessary.
No....I insist... Aki said.
Soras heart almost leapt out from her body.
How about I take you on a ride on my motorcycle? I know this really
beautiful place on the campus. I can show it to you. Aki said eagerly.
Oh how she wanted to...
But Sora knew that she had to think straight. She mustnt let her feelings
override her sense of caution. True, he had been nice to her. Aki had ofered his help
every now in then. Like the head-bang accident, the find out whats her score in Fil
20 thing, and of course, breaking up the fight during Soras recent encounter with
a group of sinister looking guys who could, more or less, be his pals. Although she
realized that she had feelings for him, it was no excuse to go on an escapade into
the middle of nowhere at night right now. Theres not enough trust to go around.
Sora remembered the first time she met him. Aki wasnt as nice before as he is right
now. He was too full of himself and made her look like a mindless, timid mouse. Sora
also remembered the time when she had found out about his makeshift kind of
room at the back of the lecture hall. Aki had been pretty unreceptive and harsh on
her.
So now what?
I, uhm... Sora began.
HEY!
Sora didnt get to finish what she wanted to say. She whipped her head
around and. There was someone running towards her.
Sora turned again to face Aki. He was frowning.
Why? Who is it?
As a hand clamped over her shoulder, Sora practically jumped.
It was you. WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?
It was Abercrombie guy!
Her surprise was immediately replaced with annoyance. Why? Is she
disallowed from going in this part of the campus? Who is he to ask something like
that?

Dont you even remember this guy? He was one of those guys who
threatened us at the bar! he said loudly, his eyes looking fierce.
I....
Sora cant find the right words to respond. If she said that she does
remember him, what response could she possibly give to the guy to explain why
shes standing there in the darkness, alone, with Aki? If she said no, then maybe
Abercrombie guy would think that Aki was hitting on her and threatening her or
something.
Its fine. I was just saying sorry to her for what my idiot pals did. Aki said
plainly. He shoved his hands into his pockets. Sora looked at his face and all the
warmth and friendliness was gone. He seemed indiferent...distant.
Abercrombie guy scofed, Yeah right, he said sarcastically.
Whatever dude. You dont have to believe me. Aki said with a shrug, See
you around.
I hope not. Abercrombie guy muttered.
Aki quickly turned around and strode away towards a path in the trees. In a
few seconds, he was out of sight.
Sora felt kind of sad for him. Even if he is pals with those thugs, Aki was the
one who stopped them from making the situation uglier. Moreover, Aki seemed like
the kind of guy who has a vulnerable and caring side to him even if he looks
daunting at times. Sora felt hot. She has to stop making such assumptions! She had
to keep reminding herself that Aki is someone that needed to be approached with
caution. Hes not like any other typical guy.
Hey you.
Sora was startled. Uh.. What now? How can I explain myself? Damn it
Sora...
Abercrombie guy was looking at her with grim expression. Why arent you at
Bakers Court?
Sora blinked, Bakers Court? What do you mean?
Bakers Court was the infamously known gymnasium, catering usually to
interschool basketball and volleyball matches. Why infamous? Campus police say
that they spotted students several times within the gymnasium doing God knows
what. Sora knows about it. She had heard about it from the upperclassmen from her
class.

Didnt Krisel text you? Abercrombie guy asked again.

Sora thought for a moment.
Oh shoot! Sora muttered, I left my phone at the dorm!
She can clearly remember putting her phone on the bookshelf. Sora doesnt
like using cellphones much. She thought of them as a nuisance and a cause of
stress every time someone texts. Thats just the way she is.
Sora sadly turned to the guy, Is there...
Krisel has a game tonight at court. Since it was her first match here in the
university, she told everyone to come..... He paused and let out a sigh, Im pretty
sure that includes you.
Sora was struck silent. Well, since she is Krisels roommate, most likely shed
be invited to come along.
But wait, Sora thought to herself, did Krisel tell him that Im his roommate?
Sora set her thoughts aside, What time did the game start? she asked
instead.
About half an hour ago.
Sora panicked. Okay, okay, Im going to run of ahead...
No, hey! Wait! Abercrombie guy called out
Sora turned around, confused.
I was about to head there too. He said, with a sheepish look. I have a car
so, you can hop in if you like.
Considering what the guy did for her and her friends during the night at the
bar, Sora felt that she can trust the guy. And after that encounter with Aki a while
ago, Sora thought of Abercrombie guy as someone who cares about people and gets
protective of them.
Sora smiled. Okay then, Ill take your ofer.
Sora saw a hint of redness in Abercrombie guys cheeks. Yes, although it was
dark out already, Sora can clearly see those rosy cheeks. Yes, she did have a hard
time seeing in the dark, but the blush was unmistakable. Sora quickly looked away
and grinned. She didnt want him to see her staring at him like an idiot. But then,
she really cant believe she just made someone blush!!!

Well, Abercrombie guy said, finally and cleared his throat, Okay then, lets
go.
Sora practically skipped after the guy. She just made a cute guy blush! She
made him go shy! With all these happy thoughts going around her head, she
mustered the courage to ask the question, I dont think weve been formally
introduced. Whats your name?
Abercrombie guy smiled. The names Yogi. Like that bear in the cartoons.
Sora chuckled, I like that name! Its very cute!
She meant it but then regretted saying the words.
Yogi simply laughed. Doesnt really fit me, does it?
Huh? Thats not true! Sora shook her head, Well, its cute, haha, and
youre also.......
Sora stopped. This time, she was the one who blushed.
