Personal Statement

My name is Tirzah Griffith and I am rising Senior Criminal Justice major, Psychology
minor at UNC Charlotte. I will be graduating in the fall with plans of working in juvenile
corrections and pursuing a masters degree. An internship in probation will give me hands on
experience of what to expect in this professional environment. Probation is an opportunity for
offenders to stay on a straight path and not serve jail time. I believe that probation is a second
chance that many people dont have the opportunity to get. Given the right resources, time and
dedication, offenders can comply with the terms of their probation and resume life as a law
abiding citizen. Working with individuals to allow them a second chance is a rewarding
experience and I would like to gain more knowledge on how probation officers do just that.
Understanding that this work isnt easy, I am more than willing to accept the challenge to travel
the road to become a probation officer. An internship is the first step on the journey and I would
be humbled to gain the experience.
